It's about time for the summer sale again, and this popped up on reddit: Are your wallets ready?

I now regret spending money last weekend. I feel like I should have a plan instead of just impulse buying like last time

Here's a handy guide for knowing what to buy and when to buy it: Link in case it's too small to see:

That depends on what kind of games you like. If you list some genres/games you know you like, I can recommend you games that you'll probably like that you can get for dirt cheap during the sale.

Well for open world games it's pretty much Bethesda or nothing (not really but you get what I'm saying). Oblivion/Skyrim probably aren't your things, but since you like guns it's probably worth looking into Fallout 3/Fallout New Vegas. You'll have to check the minimum system requirements for those games, but if you can run Minecraft you can probably run Fallout 3, as it's getting on in age now.
If you just want a pick-up-and-play open world game, Don't Starve is possibly something you'd be interested in. It has a crafting element that's somewhat similar (I use that word hesitantly) to Minecraft's, but with a more arcade-y feel to it.
For games with long campaigns, you might be interested in the Bioshock series. It's got a bit of a dystopian feel to it, and the atmosphere and setting is great. It's kind of a blend of RPG and FPS elements. You also might be interested in the Half Life series. It's a bit dated now (the first one, at least), but it's not considered one of the best series of all time for no reason.
It's not really a "campaign", but Portal has one of the best and most creative single-player experiences I've ever played. Portal 2 delivers more great puzzle-solving, but with optional online co-op. It's worth looking into, at least.

Ah, yeah, I meant to mention that. Saint's Row 3 and Just Cause 2 are both huge open-world games with some potentially hilarious multiplayer. I'm not sure if they're run all that well on your laptop, though.

I'm kind of conflicted here. I don't have a ton of money to spend, and there are several pc games I want to get from places other then Steam at the moment (Skullgirls pc version, Yatagarasu localization pre-ordered, Bleed and Anodyne off of Desura). There's still stuff I want on Steam though. I want the Metro games. I want Dungeons and Dragons Mystara Chronicles. But other then that there's not a ton I'm looking forward to on steam atm. open world games mostly... and ones with long campaigns
Borderlands? Also Turbo please make a wishlist/make it public so I know what to look for if I ever decide to gift you anything (same for everyone else here)

Haha it's that logic that always results in my impulse buys! Not enough time to decide if I actually want it (Looking at you, Terraria)
Got your eye on anything in particular, Turbo?

No. Which sucks, but whatever. I might pick up Sanctum/Sanctum 2 just to mess around with, it seems fun. Maybe Farming Simulator 2013 if it's super cheap, just for gits and shiggles.

Awwww, you don't have to do that. You're way too generous Turbo. I haven't played Sanctum 2 yet but I'll tell you what I think of 1: I think it's a really fun tower defense shooter hybrid. You can't die without your base being destroyed, but the shooting is still fun so I can't complain. It's got great strategy, can be played in a variety of ways (I think you could in theory play it entirely as a shoot em up by only upgrading personal weapons), and the later stages will have you and your friends sitting around strategizing and thinking about how best to proceed. The real star of the show though, is the atmosphere and immersion. The game has BEAUTIFUL atmosphere and ambience. Seriously. The first stage (The Bridge), as simple and easy as it is compared to the rest of the game, is still probably one of my all time favorite environments in any game. The white architecture behind you, the jungle in front of you, it looks and feels like something out of a really good dream. And then the music fits PERFECTLY (wait for the piano melody at least) Overall it's a very fun game to play with friend or even alone if you enjoy the atmosphere and strategy. I would recommend it.
