Ruby Saphire and Emerald were by far my favorite pokemon games. This is for real right?

I had so much fun with those games, competitive was so much fun back then too. I really did love those games. I couldn't even tell you how much time I spent riding my bike back and forth between w/e those towns were that had the daycare between, waiting for eggs to hatch, hatching them, using 99 rare candies on them, resetting my gameboy advance and repeating until i got the right stats lol.
Remember toxic spikes sandstorm and **** like that. I loved the pokemon back then, and this was before they re did the special attack/ physical attack stuff, which was just for starters. They just kept tacking on more and more male cattle dung, new attacks, new all sorts of **** that I didn't want changed. I honestly never got that into a pokemon game after R/S/E.

Well, the physical/special split was a very good thing.
also... using rare candies doesn't work, you have to IV breed and EV train for proper stats.
Competitive hasn't changed much. I was never really in to it, but I did get in to it a little in X/Y and kind of looked back on how it used to be.
It's all nostalgia.

I wasn't a fan of any of the new changes, probably because it meant all the time I had spent was wasted. I knew how to IV and EV train. If you took a newly hatched pokemon, leveled him up to 100 with rare candies and plugged him into a IV/DV calculator, like this: http://www.psypokes.com/dex/iv.php . You could know his exact IV stats. You could do this without the rare candies, but there higher level you plugged into the calculator the more accurate it was. Then rinse and repeat until you got what you wanted, along with the right nature, or soft reset your gameboy. I still have pages and pages of stuff written down. It would take me at least 40-50 hrs to get a pokemon with around 30 in each base stat. When EV training I'd have my GF at the time write down the number to have perfect EV's. Still have a few perfect Salamences . I've also still never seen a shiny pokemon

I have a few. Caught a Golden Geodude in Platinum, a Red Duskull in Sapphire, and then I found a shiny Goomy in X, but killed it. D: Then I figured out how to breed using the method where you use a foreign pokemon to increase the likelihood of it being shiny, and made multiple. http://imgur.com/a/AAdV3#1

Lol wtf, I would have been so happy with a shiny anything back then, I would have paid money for it. That's a nice shiny collection though

I guess we'll see how this goes. This was my least favorite set since it seemed like a downgrade after Gold/Silver.

After spending a few months browsing the Pokemon boards of 4chan leading up to/after the release of X/Y, I learned that the differing opinions on the Pokemon games vary heavily. Each generation has people that claim it is the best, and each gen also has people that claim it is the worst. It's kind of silly seeing all of the arguments. Yes, you can like one the best but soooooooooooooooooooo many people claim some are objectively better than others, when really it's heavily nostalgia-based.

I just thought feature wise it wasn't as good. I thought this back then too.

No, I understand what he's saying. This is my absolute favorite Pokemon gen, but it did have its flaws.

Oh hell yeah, its all preference. My bro is in the club of anything after 150 is an abomination, which I can see for sure. We both got gameboys and I got blue and he got red right when they first came out in the us lol. Nothing is quite like your first time
