Something along the lines of this.

I would of course link to the needed emulator/roms/etc. It's been a while, so I might have to remember some stuff about setting it up.

I was thinking we could do some shooters and stuff. Maybe some beat em ups or platformers too. Just as long as it's not infinite credits cause that **** is boring as hell.

Actually, we could probably do nes, snes, and Sega Genesis also. Nes and Genesis I actually have netplayed quite a bit. Super Nes I only tried once, but it seemed like it was working. I might have to track down the emulators I used though.

You must be new to this. Never use an emulator before?

And no, nobody keeps track of these downloads. And even if they did, there is no grounds for legal action against anyone who uses a rom or emulator IIRC.

And even if they did, why bother? It's 20+ year old games that don't even ****ing sell in store anymore. None of these companies care that you're downloading an emulator instead of paying some scalper on ebay $2,000,00 to get a super mario world cartridge. But again let me stress that nobody who uses a rom or emulator is at any kind of risk of legal action. So even if they did care for some reason, they couldn't.

*edit* Actually if I recall, the only way to put yourself in danger of legal action is if you actually attempt to profit from the roms that don't belong to you. For example, if you were to sell the roms in some way, shape or form.

I'm not fammiliar with Dolphin though, or setting it up.

I have a friend though who got it working. I could ask, but for now I'd rather go for something simpler and easier to set up.

I'v actually never tried emulation of anything above N64. I tried setting up a Dreamcast emulator once, but it was a bit complicated and I ultimately gave up before finishing installation.

Anyway let me just throw out a list of potential games:

*edit*
updated with descriptions

Nes:

Lifeforce
Classic shmup with great music, lots of variety, fair difficulty curb, and 2 player simultaneous play.

Battletoads
Makes Demon's Souls and Dark Souls look like Kirby's adventure. For REAL MEN only.

Contra
WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE?

Super C (Contra 2)
A bit harder then its predecessor if I recall.

Super Nes:

Zombies Ate My Neighbores
Mind blowing top down exploration/shooter. Very fun, great challenge and variety, and surprisingly long (50+ STAGES IF I RECALL)

Contra 3
If you don't like it your a bad person.

Pocky and Rocky
Fun, quirky top down shooter.

Sega Genesis:

Golden Axe
Famous beat em up. Still fun.

Sonic 2
I actually tried 2 player mode a while back on p2p netplay. Co op is pretty fun.

Contra: Hard Corps
Harder and more pattern memorization focused then its predecessors. But very fun.

Arcade:

Contra
Shorter and inferior arcade version. Still fun, and the animation is hilarious at times.

Super C (Contra 3)
Same as above.

Darius Gaiden
Mind blowingly good shmup. Amazing variety, design, aesthetic, and some of the best boss battles around.

Street Fighter 2
HADOUKEN! SHORYUKEN!

X-Men
Classic 6 player beat em up with ****ing awesome dialogue.

Samurai Showdown
Fun and simple weapon based 2d fighting game.

Esp Ra.De
Bullet Hell shmup that is very close to my heart.

DonPachi
The predecessor to the genre popularizing bullet hell shmup DoDonPachi (which is not available on Kaillera). It's a great game, though sadly over looked in the shadow of its sequel. It has two loops, and a super hard true final boss for those brave and skilled enough to reach that far.

Let me know if you can think of anything else.

I can't think at the moment but I actually never played Battletoads and have always wanted to try that ****. If not Contra is always good.

But really, I'll play anything you recommend and like the most man.

Me and a friend actually played through the entirety of nes Battletoads.

We had a stage select code nullifying the "get sent to the beginning if you get game over" factor and infinite lives and it still took hours to complete individual stages. It's that hard.

In fact we actually had to skip several stages that were just too insane.

I do look back on the experience fondly though.

****. Okay maybe we can save that game for when I git gud. I dunno man, I don't mind working my way through that list to be honest. Like I said, I grew up with the nintendos as a kid but I never really had that many games. That's something I kind of regret so going back through those is something I'd want to do eventually.

That's a bit of a heartfelt moment for me and it's probably as tender as I can even get so take advantage of the wine talking before I wake up tomorrow and start to wonder what the hell i"M even talking about right now. Normally I engoy being an **** haha.

Battletoads it is!

Also I forgot to mention that gameplay can be recorded and uploaded. Here's some gameplay a friend of mine uploaded from our last playthrough.
