This was intended for competitive karters.  If you're just racing for fun...choose whoever you like!

One thing before I begin.  I realize that some of you are fond of your character choices.  And you race quite well with them.  However, you would be racing that much better if you listen to the suggestions.  Can you own with Yoshi?  Yes...but you would be doing even better with Daisy, Peach, or Mii.  On to my wall o' text.

Clearly, most people are going to prefer one of the Big 3: Bullet Bike, Mach Bike, or Flamerunner.  That is fine...they are all great vehicles.  However, I think some of you are making poor choices on your characters.
If you are using one of the Big 3, the only character stats that matter are Speed, Acceleration, and Mini-Turbo.  Your bike can take any turn in the game fine, so drift bonuses are irrelevant and in fact hinder your ability to charge MTs.  Handling (which is turning without drift) is useless.  Small bonuses in weight do not make a difference.  And your offroad is so poor already that any gain via character bonus is also moot.  So when we analyze what character to choose we only focus on 3 stats.
Overall, Speed is still the most important stat because good racers will spend most of their time at top speed.
I have placed * next to characters that I recommend you use.  If a character is not listed, then you have no business even considering using them.

Bullet Bike
B Luigi: +5 Speed
B Peach: +3 Speed, +3 Acc
*B Daisy: +5 Speed, +3 MT
Toad: +6 Acc
Toadette: +3 Speed
Koopa: +6 MT
Bones: +3 Acc, +6 MT
Mii: +3 Speed, +3 MT
-Bullet Bike users have the most viable characters at your disposal.
As much as it pains me to say it though, B Daisy is cleary the best character.  I despise her, but in competive racing you need every edge you can get and her stat bonuses are superior.

Mach Bike
*Peach: +2 Speed, +5 Acc
*Daisy: +4 Speed, +3 MT
Birdo: +5 MT
Diddy: +3 Acc, +5 MT
*Mii: +3 Speed, +3 MT
-Once again, Daisy is the superior character.  But Peach and Mii are close enough for recomendations as well.  Notice that Yoshi and Luigi are not listed.  For a reason

Flamerunner
Wario: +6 MT
Waluigi: +6 Acc
*Rosalina: +3 Speed, +3 MT
*Funky: +4 Speed
Dry B: +6 MT
Mii: +3 Speed, +3 Acc
-The importance of acceleration is diminished with the Flamerunner because you should always be using the standing MT when you are item'd.  That is why Mii does not get a rec.

The only other bikes that are viable in this game are the Magikruiser, Dolphin Dasher, and Sneakster.  Kruiser and DD can both charge MT offroad which allows them to use many forced shortcuts.  If anyone is interested in learning these shortcuts let me know.

In your videos I seen you doing the standing MT, can you do that with the Mach Bike? And if so, how? O_o I assume it's pressing and holding B+A(on GC controller).

Yes, you can do a standing mini-turbo with any vehicle, karts included.  It is useful if your vehicle has poor acceleration.  I don't use a game cube controller, but pressing gas and brake at the same time is how you activate it.  When you see the blue flame, release the brake.  You always want to use a standing MT when using the Flamerunner.  You want to use a standing MT using the mach with every character except Peach.  If you are using Peach/Mach your acceleration is good enough that is up to you whether to use a standing MT.  If you are using the Bullet Bike, standing MT's are not necessary.

Standing MT is essential for online play (especially if you're turned the wrong way) but it's not a hard rule to use it everytime you get itemed.

Peach+Mach Bike:-
If you get itemed just before a jump (i.e. a jump over a small crack at Grumble Volcano), you would want to do a standing MT to get over it.  However, if you get itemed in a bottle neck area with fall potential (i.e. the wooden bridge at DK Mountain), you would want to get up and go (with no wheelie though) because you don't want to get knocked over by passing players while standing still.

no not right now.  We had one back near launch, but most of our members were brawlers and they let it die out.  Right now, there are several non-brawlers who have taken to the game (including myself) and play it regularly together.  But we still don't have a division so we invite anyone who wants to play to join us.

Oh my, not this crap again. I don't know who "discovered" this, but it's simply not true, I use Luigi and Daisy both with the Mach Bike, just because they are my favourite characters. I actually tend to do better with Luigi. There is honestly no truth to stats among each individual character. It just doesn't make sense.

Well actually it was compiled by measuring the statistic bars that the game itself gives you.  For example...if you pick Bowser Jr on the Mach Bike and concentrate on how long the speed bar is and then pick Daisy on the Mach Bike you will notice that the speed bar is longer for Daisy.  That is how all the stats were compiled.  The person who created the statistics which I use just assigned numerical increments to the attributes the game shows you.  So it is accurate.  Now, you may not notice a difference while you are racing because the character boosts are relatively small.  But they do exist, and they do make a difference.  Try some time trials with luigi, and then try them with Daisy.  Your Daisy times will be faster.

As I said, at the beginning of the post...if you truly like a character and aren't worried about small stat differences, then just go with who you like.  But the stat differences do exist, and are useful if you are interested in maximizing your speed.

Well, I guess that's proof enough, but I still don't buy it, mainly because it's not something Mario Kart would have. Plus, if it's not there enough for you to notice it, it's not there at all. I have always loved Luigi, he's always been my favourite character. Daisy has turned into my second favourite over the years. I love using both of them in all the Mario games, and in this one it is no different. It has nothing to do with the hidden "stats". It's all about what I prefer, and I know that's what you just said,  Cheesy.

I'm just forced to not beleive the stuff I am not too sure about, and I never will be.

I don't want to start an argument, I just wanted to express my feelings on this subject. It's always bothered me.

Thank you.  Cool
