yes, birds can be quite smart compared to other small animals. However, for a human, they are retarded. So calling a human a bird brain is still a valid insult.

Well, even though in relation to cranial size, bird have a proportionately large brain, among animals with developed brains, they are one of the smallest. Generally speaking, the smaller the brain mass, the less intelligent the animal. Not to mention, that the things these birds can do is not uncommon in the animal kingdom amongst other animals with developed brains (obviously this excludes those animals like insects and worms and animals with more of a nerve cell mass than a brain). Small mammals also pull off some amazing feats of inginuity. So while the bird seems to do some smart things, comparitively to other developed animals, they aren't anything special. And the words they learn are mimicking, rather than learning language. It seems impressive, but really is not.
