GT5 is coming out soon ( finally ) as well as a few other cool racing games. I have a Logitech G25 wheel and pedals that I plan on using when I play GT. My problem w/ the wheel setup has always been that I don't have a good way to mount the wheel that is sturdy, easy to set-up and easy to put away. I've seen racing wheel frames for sale online before but they are way more expensive and space consuming than I would want. So, I'm thinking of designing and building one for myself that is collapsible (like fits under my couch out of sight) and cheap to build. I design much more complex stuff than this for a living so I don't think it would be too difficult to pull off. I have access to 3D modeling software and a fabrication shop as well as a friend who can put a pro paint job on it if need be (I wanna powder coat it but that's probably a little over board, lol). What I would like from you guys that also plan on playing racing games w/ a wheel is some input on design ideas. If I/we can come up with a good design that's cheap to build and easy to fabricate, I'll make one and either hook you guys up w/ the plans or possibly even build more and sell them. Things I want some brainstorming help with:- materials (metal, plastic, pvc, wood, etc...) - different wheel mounting requirements. (I own a G25 so I would need some info on other wheels to make it work for them all) - what you would want it to do? how you would like it to look if it was in your house? how big/small should it be? should it have cupholders , etc... - how much would you wanna spend? - anything else that you can think of that might be helpful I've got a few months to mess around w/ this and I think it would be a fun little side project. I would love to actually make one and if it could be a way to make a little change on the side (craigslist, Ebay), all the better. Let me know what you guys think. Specifically, I want Turd, Greyhound, LOTRboy, and whoever else loves playing racing games to give me a little input. This thing should be small and lightweight but able to support a force feedback wheel and a few rage moments, lol.

honestly man this video isnt too shabby itself http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQ8pxMJsGzY&feature=relatedi mean its not the prettiest thing but all this guy did is put two or three posts about 3ft high or something and added a cross member with im guessing a small platform in the middle to hold the wheel and a small but similar setup for the shifter. then you just get a bucket seat (I think they sell some cheap ones at like pep boys or you can prolly get one of the internet) and bolt the whole thing to some plywood or something and set it down. I mean its not foldable and it IS quite cumbersome and in the way but you'd feel more bad ass i think.

well, i'm thinking something that will be very light and easy to collapse and put away when your done. i want it to just set in front of you so you can use whatever chair (ottoman in my case, lol) you want. it's gotta have enough space underneath so your legs won't hit anything and the pedals can be put underneath wherever is comfortable for you. I'm trying to get away from those big ass over done set ups that are for sale online. don't need all that, just a good solid thing to mount the wheel to that won't take up space or be a pain to set up/ break down. I want it to just lock in place and set up with one motion and one hand if possible.

fine damn you!
Ill see if I can put something together here at home and you can just make it better with your fancy tools and such. It shouldnt be too hard to take the ideas from the second video and make it portable. One thing. I do need to know the make and model of your racing wheel and pedals and such and such you damn needy woman.

i came up w/ a simple design on my way home. it's so easy a caveman could do it. i'll model something up this week in 3D (it's a program called Pro-Engineer btw. it pwns CAD, lol) and take a screen shot to show ya. it would take maybe ten parts and be solid as a rock and fold up to put under the couch i think. damn i'm smurt *edit it's not a G25 wheel, it a driving force pro wheel. i think the G25 has a clutch pedal and an H shifter or something and is a step or two up from mine. I got my wheel as a gift years ago for my PS2. it works w/ the PS3 though and has a usb plug on it. it's still like new cuz I've barely used it. my PS2 went kapoot not long after i got the wheel. this is my wheel and pedals:

Sorry, caps lock was on. I meant to say: Oh cool dude. I'm glad you had a good way of designing your racing wheel stand and I look forward to seeing your preliminary blueprints. I honestly didn't have the skills that were needed to complete this task and I was still thinking of ways to do it until I read your post and was relieved that you possess great intelligence and the tools to go ahead and make the idea in your head a reality. More continuing success to you my dear Oklahoman friend. May God bless thee and thy house and may Allah grant you life and let Oprah Winfrey grant you a new top of the line automobile.

I use this heavy duty wood table that I think was like one of those table's that you put in the entry or of a house or something, I stole it from my dads garage, its kinda low so I have to drop my computer chair all the way down but its hella nice because with most motorized wheels you will flip a table but this one don't move and I also made a customized drink holder for it for my beer lol I love fake drinking and driving

i plan on putting cup beer holders on my mount i'm gonna try and steal this one off my dad's old boat cuz you literally can't spill a drop when your beer is in it. it's made for holding a drink on a boat and would be perfect

I gotta say, if I were to invest in a racing wheel, my wife would LherAO and tell everyone I'm crazy and ****. Imagine if I had a table made for one...
Now, if this wasn't in the front room. Either way, I think it's cool, but I've never even used a wheel for a game; but despite my previous sentence, I thought maybe I'd get one anyway.
I think PVC would be best for portability, but I don't know about stability.
