Ok, so now I'm thinking I need to get a steering wheel to really enjoy this game. I never really played too much, more just to see/show off the Ps3 capabilities.
I'm curious to know what cars some of you are using right now; and maybe more importantly, which wheel?
I just bought the Audi R8, or whatever it's called and it's very difficult to enjoy using the analog controller. I can totally see how much fun it would be to drive these badass cars with the steering wheel.

I have a logitech force feedback pro wheel and pedals. I got it for my PS2 a long time ago and it works w/ the PS3 just fine. It's a USB connection and I think you might be able to use it w/ the PC as well. Force Feedback Pro - I wouldn't say you need a wheel, but it is a totally different experience playing with one. It's much more responsive and precise to drive w/, but at the same time takes more skill to use... especially if you turn off all the steering assists and make it as IRL as possible. Dave just got the wheel made specifically for GT5 which has built in buttons and dials. GT5 now allows you to tune your cars on the fly while driving using these special inputs on the wheel. I did see that you can map those buttons to ones already on a different wheel if you want which means I'll be able to do that stuff using my wheel. Logitech Driving Force GT - (wheel made specifically for GT5) The best wheels are the Logitech G25 or G27 I think. Those have a clutch pedal (mine only has gas and break) and a ton more buttons and I guess maybe higher quality construction. G27 - G25 -

Lak, I looked online at some of those, some are over $300 new. The one you have is about $130 new; found a few used on ebay for about $75 "buy it now". I can only imagine what you mean my different with the wheel. Not that I'm a race car driver or anything, but it would probably seem more natural; I know what I want to do, but getting it done witht the controller requires more thinking vs. using a steering wheel, pedals and shifter which I've done half of my life.
LT, as for kart racing, it's the games. I think their too busy and I'm not a fan of all those power ups and stuff. Actually Blur has it just about right for me as far as kart racing. Realistic with a handful of power ups and the courses weren't full of ****.

the controller is easier man. it auto centers, doesn't fight back against you (force feedback on the wheel) and is a lot easier to just pick up and play. but, the wheel is just bad ass. you really feel like your driving the car cuz it's fighting you around corners and your actually steering and working the pedals. i play w/ the controller when it's inconvenient to set up the wheel basically. it's still fun either way. i hope you get the wheel though. just find a good used higher quality one... as long as you can confirm it hasn't been used a ton if possible. the wheels work w/ a lot of games btw. get on the PS Store and download some of the cool racing game demos like Dirt, NFS Shift, and if you want, download Burnout Paradise. I have it and it's awesome. On second thought, we could just game share that one and you could play it w/ me for free.

Ok, so is the wheel loud? And what about practicality? Like I said, I'm now thinking it would be sweet for those high end cars, but don't want it to be a pain to set up in order to play. What about when friends come over, is the wheel easier to do than the controller? Meaning could it be set to "easy" to use the wheel for someone who just comes over to hang out?

the wheel isn't very loud. it has electric motors in it that produce the force feedback (the wheeel has resistance and pulls away like a real car would) and they make a kinda winding sound when you turn the wheel fast. sounds kinda like if you were to push an RC car back and forth on the floor and wind the motors up. it's not that loud though. all you need to set it up is a coffe/end table or tv tray that is stable (the wheel needs a pretty solid mount cuz your turning it pretty hard when it's fighting against you) and has an the mounting arms can grab onto. most coffe/end/tv trays will work fine. if you have pedals, you have to have room under the table for those as well. it's not hard to set up. there are three wires and it calibrates itself when you start the games up. it has buttons on it so you don't need to use your dualshock for menus or anything. as far as being easier for others, it depends on the person. some people who've played games before would probably like the controller cuz they're used to that and others won't. most people can play it w/ a wheel but it takes a little bit to become acclimated to using it. most people tend to over/understeer a lot at first for some reason. i've had everyone from children to grandparents try it before and they all could drive it. GT5 is probably too hard for someone to just pick up and play though. most people spend the whole time running into walls and over correcting every turn. just get a wheel, you'll enjoy GT5 a lot more. turn all the driving assists on when others wanna try it and turn them off when you play. when you get good w/ the wheel, you'll feel a lot more in control and precise w/ the wheel.
