This is not a knock against the players or quality of football that the BCS offers yet how it works is what grinds my gears.

I hope you're not that naive to college sports, ohio.  The players love the game, yes, but the sports admins, deans, and all the other old farts that run the schools are the greedy rats that make college sports the poop it is today. All they care about is the rankings, TV contracts, and revenue sales from merchandise. That's why some of these kids wind up doing what Bush did; because they work their tail off to please the organization and get jack poop in return while the school rakes in the cheese. The BCS is just a way to step on the littke guy while making big named schools feel superior. Its a twisted system that reeks of sewage.

all joking aside, the 9ers have some serious potential I just don't think they have the right QB, the 9ers comment from before was just me trying to get you to play

actually K, you missed my point.  I don't care about the schools and their admins.  That doesn't translate to the field.  It is about what the players care about.

And you are wrong if you think the schools only care about sports.  at the vast majority of the institutions, academics is first and foremost.  Admit it or not, but the 60 million that Ohio State makes off of football is a drop in the bucket to the BILLIONS they make in tuition.  So it is CRAZY to think it is all about sports for these schools.

But I digress.  The point was that the players themselves being true amateurs, with less than 5% having professional aspirations, makes for a much better product.  And complaining about using polls to rank 120 division 1A teams shows that DDD is just missing what is great about school based sports.  To most schools it isn't all about a national title.  There is sooooo much more than that in college and high school sports.  Only a professional sports fan would be so narrow.  The fantacism associated with college sports is something on a whole level that you wouldn't understand rooting for professional teams.

and I hope you guys aren't interpretting my liking college sports better than professional to have anything to do with support of the BCS system.  The two are basically unrelated to a true college sports fan.  Obviously I would be in support of a better system for picking a nation champion.  But once again, that isn't the point of college sports.  And regardless of the system of rankings that are in place, college sports will still be better from a fan standpoint than professional sports.

Also, K, do your homework.  It can easily be shown that the current BCS system is better for small schools to have a shot at a national title than a playoff.  In fact, a team like boise state (and their coach has acknowledged this) has a better shot of getting national recognition, with the benefits to their program that come with that, and ultimately producing a champion under the BCS system (which has already proven that it can take a small school like BSU, and elevate them amongst the national elite), than under a playoff system where a small school or two might sniff the playoff once in a while, but because of the inherent hurdles they have to overcome to compete with the bigger schools, they have little to no shot at surviving an entire tournament unscathed.  So to those who don't actually look deeply into it, it may appear that the BCS is elitist against the little guy.  But once you look deeper, it actually benefits those small programs in the long run.  Before the BCS came along in the late 90s, a team like BSU who was just becoming a D1 program, had no shot at the major recognition that they have.  And now, because of a couple BCS wins, they have a good shot at getting into a major conference soon.  And that is HUGE for that school.

The BCS is my biggest complaint with college football. We have a different system here but it's still not perfect. What I love about the NFL is the lack of a ranking system. You win, you move on. Simple as that.

Ohio, I know the schools make more money off of tuitions and what not, but its the recognition they get from sports is what corrupts the motives. Honestly, you should know and understand the pressure that these kids not only put on themselves, but are put under by the parents, coaches, and school leaders to perform as a professional and are never guaranteed a chance at going pro.

HEY GAYS let's not turn this into another flame war where the theme is FBS vs FCS vs BCS vs non-BCS vs LMNOP vs Pro vs This vs That.

This topic is for enhancing your e-p3n0r by correctly guessing the outcome of more NFL contests than anyone else.

^ and that is the beauty of it, K.  That is why college sports rule.  These are kids, dealing with life, and school, and pressure, and thrown into the spotlight with basically no shot at a professional career in it (for 95% of college athletes), and we get to watch them shine.  I'll take that over watching overpaid professionals execute their sport to perfection like robots.

Hey poop wad I said I'd sign up later.

Also, Ohio, I'm glad you used BSU as an example, because it does show how crappy the BCS really is. They are BARELY getting respect in the BCS but after how many years of being dumped on and overlooked? They should have been included at getting a shot at a national title a long time ago. Roll Eyes
