Another problem is the fact that kids see such an emphasis put on College sports that once they make it to that level, it's as if sports comes first and schooling comes later when very few of them make it to the professional level. A lot of people screw up their future careers by believing in the hype of the college world.

yet they get an education out of it that they never would have gotten otherwise.  I think I'll take that setup anyday.

Yeah because going to college and taking joke classes and barely passing will bode well for you in the future. You noticed how many people with no specialization can't get a job in their field?

I have to agree somewhat. A lot of pros don't even get their education until AFTER they become pro. Some until after retirement. Undecided

yeah, but how many of these college athletes would have gone to college otherwise?  Few.

I was a college athlete and had professional aspirations.  I know for a fact you guys are grossly misstating the education these guys get.  They have to follow the same curriculum as anyone else to get a degree.  They would lose their accreditation as a university if they didn't.  And that is far more important than any athlete.  You have been mislead by the media on the subject.  They take easy electives, but we all did in college.  And if you go to college you would see that you can take easy electives as well.  Heck, I took archery and horror films in school.  That doesn't change the fact that the core courses are the same for everyone.

You just don't know what you are talking about.  And getting any education is better than no education every single time.

I'm on the football team at the University in Ottawa and I know what some people are taking. Personally, I chose a useful program and I don't receive any electives until 4th year. I chose since the list of CIS players that actually make it to the NFL is the size of Peck's dick. Some people however, dream of going to the CFL where salaries are remarkably high with an average pay of $40 000. Fact of the matter is, these guys won't get their degrees because all they care about is football. You are an example of people who take advantage of their University opportunities, many do not.

Now this is pointless if you're going to say we're mislead by the media about college athletes. The same exact thing could be said about Pro athletes and that all they play for is a big salary. Just because you've seen people like Moss, TO, and a few others gripe about a big check then you biasly say that all pro players are the same. Come on, use more logic when trying to argue the two.

no K, I said you were misled about how easy college is for a college athlete, not what they play for.  You clearly have misconceptions about curriculum for athletes.  That is all.  The discussion about a pro playing for money is irrelevant to that point.

And to DDD, you still haven't answered my main point about college athletes.  The fact is that these guys who never make it completely through college because of sports, never would have started college without sports.  So how is it somehow a negative that they get an opportunity to go to school, an opportunity they wouldn't have otherwise, and ANY part of an education they get is better than none at all.  So it makes no sense to argue the point you are arguing.  The fact remains that they are in a better position for having attended college as an athlete than if they did not regardless of how much of it they take advantage of.

I never said it was "easy" for a college athlete. I have no clue what you're talking about. Huh?

And how do I "clearly have missconceptions about corriculum of athletes"? Again, what? Huh?
