I fell asleep before the end of the game, but I am guessing the rule is that once the chain gang makes a measurement, the play cannot be reviewed, much like once the next snap has taken place. It is incumbant upon the coach to initiate the review BEFORE that happens. It is probably to keep coaches from being satisfied with the spot until they find out they were wrong by an inch or two and THEN complaining. If the falcons coach did not throw the review flag early enough, it is his own fault. He should know the rules.
There are several things that are not reviewable by instant replay (i.e. a play being whistled dead cannot be reviewed since play has stopped and the other outcome is impossible to determine).
Like I said, though, I didn't watch it, nor have I had a chance to see it or read about it this morning other than in this thread. So that is just my guess.

If the falcons coach did not throw the review flag early enough, it is his own fault. He should know the rules. He had two timeouts left and was probably waiting on the booth review. You know, the thing that the officials do when a ruling on the field is in question, so that it doesn't fall on the coaches to correct the ref's s hit-brained mistakes. There are several things that are not reviewable by instant replay (i.e. a play being whistled dead cannot be reviewed since play has stopped and the other outcome is impossible to determine). Yes, I understand why there are such things as non-reviewable plays. It merely seems logical that you would make sure you got the spot of the ball correct before completely assraping the other team.

Well I looked for info on this on cbs and espn and can't even find a mention of this play in any story about the game. Must not have been too controversial.

It wasn't, for reasons that still escape me. The commentators put up a replay of the guy, clearly showing that he was down a full yard shorter than the refs thought. But, since the play was non-reviewable, they just shrugged it off without so much as second thought.
It just makes me mad that such things exist in this kind of a setting. If a play could potentially decide the outcome of a game, it should be called correctly, the refs be damned.

Yeah, I understand your gripe with the rules. I think college football has proven that you can have instant replay on all plays and it still not slow down the game. The NFL set up instant replay this way based on reasons that have now proven to not be the case. They should follow suit and institute a system like college football.

LOL I was just looking at this week's results and noticed I picked 7 games where every single other person picked the opposite team (I picked Carolina, Arizona, Cleveland, Buffalo, Washington, Cinci, and Minnesota). And surprisingly some of those teams came through.

Congrats DDD on another great week. Hopefully we can do it again another time. I think the Pats could make the big show even though beating teams two or three times in a season is a tough task in today's NFL.

Congrats, Slaught3r, on winning the whole thing. I didn't see an option to let it ride through the playoffs, so this looks like it Good job on week 17, 3d! I'll set you up as mod for the week, then turn it over to Slaught3r for the off-season.
