That had to be the worst logic I have ever seen.
Toronto gave up the best pitcher in baseball but still went 85-77 in the toughest division in baseball. Boston put up a record of 89-73. Tampa and New York were both well above .500. Only three other teams in the AL had more than 81 wins. Every other team in the AL put together a record below .500 against the AL East. It means none of them could compete with them over a full season. The lineups are deep, the arms are deep. If you made the Twins, Rangers and White Sox play most of their games against the AL East, they would not have records close to those of the Jays, Red Sox, Yankees and Rays.
