hardwiring really helps the most with dl times for big files. it helps with playing online, but it's not a huge difference. you will notice that you'll have a lot less laggy games and **** though

damn, I can't hardwire though. The router is in the living room and that's on the other side of the house.

Alright, if I do get a PS3, it'll be sometime around August, when my Live subscription runs out. And yeah, I hard wire everything that can reach. I don't even have that $100 wireless adapter bullcrap for my 360.

going wireless cuts ur connection to about 1/2, but still 2x higher than what a Wii can pull down even if it's direct connected.
i knew wireless brought down your connection but i didnt know it was by half! dang i need to hardwire I kno rite... I ran speedtest on my PS3 multiple times....and it almost always was close to 1/2 But like Lakkus sed...really only matters for updates/dloads possibly if ur running multiple Netflix streaming shiz....otherwise wireless should be ok for gaming.

I moved my router to the living room media center so I could hardwire the PS3 and Wii. I have a wireless N router and laptop though so I don't have to hardwire the PC cuz wireless N is plenty fast enough. The PS3 and 360 should have N capability but they don't for some reason. I even read somewhere that the wireless chip in the PS3 is capable of wireless N but they didn't include it... no idea if that's true or not though.
wireless N is about 3 times faster than wireless G I think. I recommend upgrading to a wireless N router and PC card if you can. it's great and you won't need to hardwire your PC(s) unless you just download huge files all the time or something that requires more bandwidth. that would allow you to put your router behind your TV and hardwire the consoles without running cables all over your house.
