Wow. I played for about 4 hours today and really had a blast. Someone said it bofore and it's true, you don't really need to buy cars. Just win spec A races and use the cars you win.
The spcial events are kind of bugging me though, it seems I don't have cars for some of them and not sure which to buy.
Anyway, having fun...

hey guys, here's a great guide on how to start playing the game when you get it: http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps3/941103-gran-turismo-5/faqs/61568it shows you a good way to start from scratch and advance through the game with the least amount of money spent. doing the license tests at first is a great way learn how to race properly and you win a lot of good cars and money/exp in the process. also, do the special events, trying for gold of course, cuz it also gives you great rewards and helps you learn how to race set the game options to "simulation mode" and try to race w/out using any driving aids. it's harder to drive the cars cuz it's as close to reality considering physics of the cars and handling characteristics. try to learn to race using manual transmission. it's way more fun and you'll go faster if you shift correctly. it's takes some practice to get good at shifting correctly but it makes the game much more enjoyable IMO and gives you much greater control.

Ok, so I've been playing since PsN has been down and this game kicks arse. Once you reach about level 17 and start getting into the professional and expert level races they are really fun. What I want is to do some serious F1 racing online.

getting an F1 car is hard. just start saving for a FGT that you can buy from the online dealership when PSN is back up. you really need to get some people to start remote racing with you to make some serious money. also, run b spec races when you're not racing and you can level up and win more money and cars.
let's race tonight or tomorrow is PSN is up

I didn't know how much I'd like the "race" cars but after getting into some serious races and doing speeds over 150 mph, I'm now wanting to try them on the circuit tracks. I hated racing on the circuits with slower cars and before I learned how to do some upgrades, now I'm lovin' it. Did I ever mention Laguna Seca raceway is a few hours from my house. We head that direction a few times per year for vacation: Monterey, Carmel, Pebble Beach area. Did you say I can get a "used" FGT? I'll look for it.
Oh, and do tires and stuff really wear out during a race? A few 5 lap races my tires were red regularly. What about the maintanence stuff, do you ever do that?

tires wear out faster the more you slide around. softer tires have better grip but wear out faster. harder tires are the opposite.
you need to change your oil when the change oil light comes on or every 50-100 laps or so I guess.
every time you get a new car, change the oil before you do anything else. it gives you free hp on every car new or used.
you don't need to worry about rebuilding your chassis or engine for really long periods of time.

Thanks. I updated my profile after playing last night. There is so much to this game I don't even know about. Now that the online mode is back, holy crap there is a lot that can be done. I put one of my cars up for sharing after checking out your profile. It was my first baby, now it's pretty much modded completely. It cost about $50,000 and I must have put about $200,000 into it. That was back in January when I didn't play much. I think I only had about 10 hours of playing time in before the PsN went down. Usually I only played arcade mode.

yeah there's tons of stuff to try and get gold trophies for which is how you "beat" the game. license tests are a good place to start. see if you can get at least silver on all of them and then gold. special events are pretty hard when you get to the more advanced ones. A and B Spec are as hard as you wanna make them. You can try to beat it with normal cars or you can use modded cars that blow the competition away. You can make the game easy or try to win without an over powered car.

Right now I'm just trying to get $4+ million to get an F1 car. Can you replay seasonal events? I completed 4 events yesterday and made about almost $1 million there. One race paid me $70,000 and took less than 6 minutes to complete. Others took 8-9 minutes and paid $40,000.
It's amazing how this game works though. You start with slower cars and sometimes have to do the same course many times while completing Spec A events, then by the time I got faster cars, I knew the courses well enough, even in reverse.

I love this game. There is so much to do it's crazy.
Sorry I didn't send a car last night. I fell asleep early again. I'll send one tonight. If we can, we can join up in a server online and I can show you some cars for you to pick from.
do this GH: do all the license tests. just get at least bronze and move on to the next one asap. when you get to the last license test, do those till you get all ten gold. those are the easiest tests to get gold on and you'll win 3 great cars in the process. you can go back and get better trophies on the other tests later.
