um, its actually kind of self explanatory at the beginning. just make sure and pic a race that suits your style. there are like 10 i think so you have plenty of options.

oh and save like a madman. especially just before big encounters and even more especially as a low rank. you tend to find more enemies that are stronger than you at this point and if you're not careful even 2 wolves can kill you in the wild. as you level up and become a boss you can take most people out with one hit.

still, learn to save your game a lot. if you dont save for 10 minutes and you die you have to start aaaaaaall over from the last save point.

Ok. Will do.

Is there any particular race that is better/funner/wiser/stronger/anything 'er'?

Different races have their strengths and weaknesses.  Really depends on what you want to play like.

If you want a pure melee who f***s s*** up with a battleaxe or something, I'd recommend a Nord or an Orc, as they're very strong and have early bonuses to Two-Handed Weapons and (I think) Heavy Armor.

If you want something light and sneaky that relies on stealth, Wood Elf or Khajiit, maybe Argonian.

If you want a pure mage, Breton and High Elf are your best bets.

If you want a balance, pick from Imperial, Dark Elf, and Redguard.

II haven't chosen yet, but high elf looked cool so far but I've only read the bios on 3-4 races. (Wife said I had to get off cause the kiddies are still awake. >_>

High elves are particularly weak to magic, oddly enough.  Makes the beginning of the game kinda difficult, but once you have strong spells a High Elf is pretty boss.  I wouldn't recommend it for a player new to the franchise, but if you wanna try it out go right ahead.

Hmm, would a barbaric warrior type be more suitable?

Probably, but you'll also want one that can use a decent heal spell.  I'd recommend Dark Elf, honestly.  Well-balanced, strong, and can use a bit of Destruction magic, too.

Yeah, you can create as many characters as you want.  The only limit is how much memory you have on your PS3.

I have at least 30 characters on Oblivion alone.

IRL I'm not the type to steal or take advantage of people so in the game I tend to leave locked things unlocked.  Is that a bad thing? Huh?

What Tiger said.

There are a fair amount of locked chests in caves, and you'll want to be able to take the goodies that are inside of them.

I got a dwarven mace out of one last night.  Thing basically took out a dragon for me.  Now I just need to refine it.
