I don't know a ton about this and am not claiming to know any more than anyone else on the subject.
There has been warnings from NASA Scientists and others about impending catastrophic solar flare activity for this year especially. I have read a little on this and how they come and go in cycles and how they have messed up satellites, electric power and even back in 1859 they caused an aurora borealis like effect that many witnessed and it wiped out a lot of telegraph lines. I'm not trying to get all 2012 apocalypse here, but let's just say we Do lose electricity and communications for an extended period of time. Do you have an emergency plan?
I know that when this type of subject is comes up, there are usually 3 kinds of responses. 1 - Those who are planners and think of this kind of stuff and actually believe it has over a 50% chance of happening and have some sort of plan ( which could include food storage, guns- ammo, water filtration, fuel, etc..) and 2 - Those who are more reactor types who will deal with such an ordeal when or if it actually occurs. and 3 - The Sarcastic types who come up with jokey answers but don't really want to consider dealing with such a possibility. I've noticed some of them to be the bury your head in the sand types who go blank when you mention anything like this subject matter, and yes, this is only the Solar Flare angle of it all. Ok , you got me, I guess it does have apocalyptic undertones to what I'm writing because it is easy to think of the Shifting of the Poles, Alignment of the Planets, World War, Internet Hackers, People causing everything to go haywire by buying too much into the hype of the 2012 Mayan Calender thing, etc...
What are your feelings on this subject matter? My personal opinion is that we are very dependent on the system we have now and it wouldn't take much to cause a major disruption, meaning it could take longer than expected to be up and running again and in the meantime it would most likely bring out the worst in many of us due to our "me, me" attitudes and such.

Ummm... I don't really know about all of that. I live in a basement and I have a few canned foods. For communications I am hoping to learn smoke signals.
Oh, and HI IRON!!!!!!!!!!

She's doing better now, she had the flu last week then my wife had it and now I'm home sick with it. Other than teething she's a pretty happy baby, we're lucky. We should plan some kind of reunion and have the old crew get in on some kind of skype game some weekend night like the old days, we just need to find out which games we all still have and if everyone still has a Wii ( didn't Mum rage quit one night and smash hers with a baseball bat or something?).

TIL: June is a basement dweller. As far as the electricity thing goes, I'm not too worried about it. We aren't as dependant on electricity as most other places. We have tons of readily available natural gas and that's what heats my house, supplies my stove, and heats my water. Also, those flares affect you northern people a lot worse than us. Also, if **** really hit the fan, this is about the best place to be. I could have shot a dear and are it last night if I really needed to, lol.

Oh, Iron.. that is so good to hear. She is a cutie! I think we all DO need to do the Skype thing. I really have no idea what games everyone would have. I don't even see Ratty around anymore! TIL: June is a basement dweller. Haha. I could have shot a dear and are it last night if I really needed to, lol.
At least I am a basement dweller that can make sense.

it makes perfect sense. he has the option to shoot the dear for food or he can "are" it, or BECOME the deer and prance away from danger if he really needed it.

I don't really have a plan for this sort of stuff, but I've always got a reserve of essentials like water and packaged food (Honey Buns don't seem to ever go stale, by the way) and batteries and a knife, to hold me for about a week just in case.
Though really, I think these sorts of things are exaggerated by the oftentimes alarmist media. Stories about solar flares don't attract viewers, after all, but stories about solar flares that could end civilization as we know it are prime-time television.
Let me know when the zombie apocalypse starts, and then you'll see some concern on my part.
