Okay, something I've learned about Lonestar is that he's a great distraction.

Once you get the trinamite going and have the bull, you can take on a turret on your own with relative success.  Obviously the enemy team will move in to stop you, but using the bull you can get away very easily.  That means you can harass a turret while your team moves in to take down another turret.  Not sure how useful that would be against competent teams, but it worked for me in public matches.

And with Voltar, as long as you can keep him alive, there is absolutely no need to defend a turret once your team has their setups ready.
