I made this topic on the GameFAQs PC Tech Help board but I haven't gotten a reply. So I thought about posting it here just now. The problem started a few days ago. All sounds that I hear on my PC are at a slightly higher pitch than normal. It's the computer since the sound is this way through my speakers and my headphones.
The program/driver I'm using for audio is Realtek HD Audio. For those familiar with it the problem isn't with the karaoke key pitch thing since it's currently at 0 (default). I have tried reinstalling after uninstalling the driver/program. My brother had fixed it before with lowering the audio acceleration but I've tried that again after the problem came up again and it hasn't worked even after restarting the computer.
I do have an idea on what may have caused it. When going on a Xat chat the sound pitch changes. The thing is it didn't do that until after I had connected and powered my computer on after a couple of days because of a non related apartment issue.
So can anyone please help me with this issue?

I had an issue with my audio driver recently. Uninstalling/reinstalling it didn't do anything so I ended up just rolling it back to a previous version. Works fine now.
I didn't have the same problem you had so my solution may not work for you, but it's worth a shot. If you're using Windows 7 just go Control Panel > Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers > Right Click > Properties > Driver tab > Roll Back Driver.

I probably should have put that I was using Windows XP.
I tried rolling it back and it didn't work.

Then I'm out of suggestions, I'm afraid. Sorry.

There's an area labeled "sound" but nothing changed.

If you mean the sound test, yes. Didn't do anything.

I wanted to know the results of the test. I just want to know what the results were from it.

It said there were no problems or something like that.
I woke up earlier today and my brother told me that the sound is fixed. I don't know how but I guess it fixed itself. I'll bump this topic up if I start having the problem again.

Computer audio usually sucks. There's always circuit noise and interference. It just so happens that the one it's making right now you can hear. I bought a DAC not too long ago and going back to onboard audio gives me a massive headache. Just get a cheap sound card, anything's better than onboard, really.

I'll probably end up eating my socks if this is what fixed it, but did you try turning it off and on again?

That was part of what fixed it.
My brother actually fixed it by defaulting the sound acceleration, restarting afterwards, then decreased the acceleration and restarted again. The weird thing was that I kept messing with those options but they did nothing. But it's pretty much fixed now.
I just haven't been on a xat chat to see if it was completely fixed. Has anyone else been having the problem of the xat chat changing your sound pitch?
I'm guessing not since I'm the only one posting about the problem.
