Everyone should be allowed to marry. We are all brothers and sisters, anyway. Adam and Eve, anyone? Forget incest because it's ALL INCEST.

It had its beginnings in religion. I'd prefer that we just allow everyone to marry as it's definitely more of a social thing than a religious one, but I'd be equally as satisfied if we relegated marriage to religious institutions only and had civil unions, provided that the government divert the benefits they give to marriages to those unions instead.
In might have been a religious thing in the beginning, but once the government started recognizing them, that stopped and it became more of a symbol of unity than anything. **** civil unions, that reminds me a lot of "You can use this water fountain over here and still get water, but you can't use this one here, that's for us."

I think kechua marriage is such an important issue because the fundies are so passionate about it, IMO it represents one of the last things they have to cling to in an increasingly secular and sane world. once that's gone (which will be soon), it will be a symbolic blow to religious tards.

good point. Incest should also be legal.
The water fountain analogy isn't right. Marriage won't exist to the government. The kechua are not getting an altered form of marriage. Marriage simply will no longer legally exist. Everyone gets the same treatment. The straight, the kechua, the polygamist, the inbred, everybody.

And if the government stopped recognizing them, then it would become solely a religious thing, and they could say no to all the kechuas they want to. I think any reasonable person would agree that civil unions with no government-recognized marriages is the best option. Although I do know that fundamentalists would disagree with that option on the grounds that we're trying to take the Jesus out of America, and we just couldn't have that. an increasingly sane world
I couldn't disagree more

At least I'll be able to stay single forever without it being against the law.

There's health risks with inbred relationships. That's out of the question.
that'll happen whether or not they're allowed to marry

Laws are made because something is considered okay. Incest is not okay.

You disagree? Laws are not made to put individuals in harms way.
I would argue that laws are made to protect people's perceived rights, not to protect you from yourself or others. (ideally of course)

i meant incest is bad according to you. I agree with falink, sometimes laws are there regardless of whether or not they put individuals in harm way
