Just because you don't like the sites doesn't mean it isn't the truth, I doubt the BLM is unreliable.

Just because you don't like the sites doesn't mean it isn't the truth

It means the site is inherently biased and has a vested interest in making their positions look as good as possible while downplaying any opposing views.  Trying to pass partisan sites off as valid isn't a good move.

Literally nothing on that site discusses consumption, production, or importing of foreign oil.

Except it doesn't.

Efficient recovery of oil in wells that were previously thought dry/not cost-effective is currently way cheaper than purchasing new leases and establishing a base of operations there.

I'm done arguing with you turbo, you always win.  Angry  with your unbiased sites and what not....

But I know I'm right because I seen the effect on these land leases with my own eyes, It all depends on where you live I guess.

Serious question: Do you think what you are seeing is absolutely true for all other oil-producing locations in the US?

Then my advice would be to make sure you aren't allowing your personal experience be the sole determining factor for your opinion of national trends.  You seeing that same instance of a lack of leases acts as a confirmation bias for you, as you have no practical way of seeing other trends firsthand.

Point is, just make sure you form your opinion on something after doing research on it.  Not saying you haven't done that for this case, but it's just good practice.

I'm sure turbo is going to come in here and call me dumb or something. Tongue

Not stupid, just misguided.

We're making our planet unlivable.  We've got to stop using fossil fuels to such a large extent.  The alternative is us losing the only planet we call home.

It's not that global warming isn't happening, because it's obvious that it is, but we are in too deep to make a change now. Anything but oil is pretty much infeasible.

We're still going to reap the consequences, sure.  But at this point we're looking at the difference between New Orleans being underwater and Memphis being underwater.  I'd really rather the former be the extent of the damage.

To be fair, compared to the amount of time coal and combustion engines have been around, we've had next to no time to research alternative sources of energy.  We need to focus on research to prevent a worst-case scenario, not resign ourselves to inaction simply because we're screwed ourselves over.

Oil is just such a large part of everything money that it can't be changed without major financial consequences. The amount of people that are affected by it on a day to day basis is like no other product or service.

I don't know, with the way the earth environment cycles work, it's bound to happen at some point. Unless you're confident in us being able to master deep space travel, I don't think it's relevant as to when we hit the next ice age.

It would be awesome to one day say: "Hey, I made my car run on CO2 and produce O2" but even making the switch to that would be virtually impossible. The worst case scenario will happen either way. It's just about making voters think we can actually do something.
