This isn't really a PC problem, but I figured the technologically savvy would be better off helping me than simply console gamers.

I recently bought a new monitor, HDMI cord etc., and the screen looks great.  I also had some speakers that I've had for some time, and can now finally use with the headphone jack in the monitor.  The only problem is, is that for any sound in the game, it's as if the sound is coming from a different area. Here's what I mean.

It's been especially noticeable in Call of Duty, and Skyrim.  If someone's talking to me that is on my left, he sounds completely muffled as if he's behind me.  If I position myself so the person talking to me is behind me, it sounds like he's too my right.  It's like the sound has been shifted 90°.

I've tried going into Xbox settings and changing from Dolby 5.1, back to Stereo, and back, but it fixed nothing. This happens with every game I play.  I fear my left speaker believes it's a center speaker or perhaps the subwoofer is messing something up, I'm not sure.

Any suggestions?

That would be my guess.

Is there any way to reset them?

I reset my monitor settings and system settings on my 360, but there's nothing I can reset on my speakers.  I also tried my dad's speakers and sub, and it had no problem, so it's definitely mine.  Probably faulty wiring.

Looks like I'll have to by some new ones, and definitely going to get a sub with its own separate volume switch this time.

Well that sucks.  But at least you know it isn't your monitor or 360.
