I couldn't resist. Any suggestions? I also got it because I want M&L: DT, and of course Pokemon. ProjectXZone looks cool, kinda. Oh, and I don't really care for DKR, or any of the other Mario games. Already played MK7/OoT when I had my original 3DS. I'm not sure if I'd like Animal Crossing, despite it's praise. Oh, and I don't think I'd like Luigi's Mansion. Didn't really care for the first one, even though Luigi is my favourite (see sig).

What's SMT?
Also, I fully expect you to post an in-depth opinion piece on the new Pokemon games. I liked Black and White, wasn't interested in B/W 2, and I'm not sure how I feel about the inclusion of Fairy type in the newest gen. So I'm on the fence about it.
Will the new games be only on the 3DS?

Shin Megami Tensei IV
B/W + B/W2 are great. I have no doubt X/Y will be great, too.
Yes, 3DS only.

Well poop. I have no desire to get a 3DS.

Shin Megami Tensei IV is soooooooooooo good. Remember I told you all about that Turbo when I got it? I recommend using the 30 dollars to get Code of Princess on the Eshop. Pro beat em up. http://www.nintendolife.com/reviews/3ds/code_of_princessI play the flat chested thief girl. Also the dialogue is hilarious. I laughed out loud on several occasions.

It's not really a side scroller, there are 3 plains to switch from. Besides, I don't think you must have played many beat em ups in a long time, seeing as how rare they are these days.

DG, I don't know if you have a Club Nintendo account. If you don't it's free to register. I'm bringing it up since there is a deal going on that you currently qualify for that you've probably seen on the site. If you register both Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei IV on Club Nintendo you can get $30 eshop credit. I believe that's what Squire was referring to with the $30 he mentioned.
About suggestions, I myself don't own that many 3DS games yet. Only ones I own are Fire Emblem (got the Fire Emblem 3DS) and Star Fox 64 3D. But if you're interested in any Virtual Console games that are on there I'd suggest The Legend of Zelda Oracles of Ages and Oracles of Seasons. That's if you're interested in the top-down Zelda games. Zelda 1 and 2 are also on there but I don't know your preferences.

Oracle of Ages has probably the most complex and brilliant dungeon designs I've ever seen in a game.

I actually beat that game a few days ago. It made me use a walkthrough so many times. I need to get Seasons eventually.
Thinking about the Club Nintendo thing now, I forgot that DG was in "lolCanada" so it might be a different story there.

Yeah, that was one of the reasons I bought those 2 games. As far as the Zelda games go, I only like the 3D ones. I really don't like top-down perspective in games.

Top down perspective is best, no reason not to like it, the games are genius.
Have you played SMT IV yet? I just beat Medusa and made it to post-apocalyptic Tokyo (not really a spoiler I don't think, I mean it was in ALL the trailers...).

That's exactly where I am. Haven't played it in a week though since I just recently got back in to buying pokemon cards and playing with them with my girlfriend.
