I've been looking this up for a while now, but I can't seem to find an answer. So I was wondering if any of you guys knew. With the new consoles coming out, will someone playing online on the Xbox 360 be able to play with someone playing online on the Xbox One? And vice versa with Ps3/Ps4. This will influence me to buy a new console drastically.

I doubt it... but it would be awesome!

Aren't the Ps4 and Xbox one doing something different? like aren't they getting rid of PSN and Xbox live?  Undecided

I haven't heard anything about this, and I would assume that we won't be able to play across platforms even if they're by the same company, but I'll look into it to make sure.

Here's an unsourced "no", so take that as you will:

Xbone and PS4, no. PS4 and PC, yes, there's a good chance. Playstation has already done that with other games like Portal and in some ways Dust 514. With Portal you can directly play on your PS3 with someone on the PC. With Dust you can't play EVE but they share a universe and thus share servers. Dust players can communicate directly with EVE players.

Games that have potential to be cross platform PS4-PC are Planetside 2 and the new Everquest Next (revealed on Friday). Both of those are made by Sony Online Entertainment. Also a 3rd party game called Warframe.

As far as I know, Microsoft is not as open with their network. It's the reason why Dust was exlclusive to PS3. Microsoft didn't want to open up their network.

Oh you CoDfags...

I think I can see where you're coming from though. Microsoft is the leading provider of PC OS's. Steam is basically a marketplace created by Gabe Newell and his company Valve. They sell games on PC and because of that, the people that make the games have to work with the PC Operating Systems. Although Windows is the largest, there are others that are fairly sizeable or gaining popularity. Apple has their own operating system but you can still download Steam on Macs and buy games designed around that operating system.

Microsoft on the other hand also make games, mainly for the Xbox but also for PC systems. They also have their own marketplace called Xbox Live Marketplace or something.

Steam does not belong to Windows though.

There is that game Cubemen 2 that is/will be cross-platform online multiplayer.

Players on the Wii U version will be able to battle against other players who own the game on Wii U, PC, Linux®, Mac® or iOS device.

This is something that I could get into. If it's a good game I suppose.

I own Cubemen on Steam.  Played it a couple times and wasn't really impressed with it at all, honestly.
