I've toiled over when to upgrade to a nice desktop, and what specs I want/ what specs I need.  Now that I'm actually going to do it I just wanted some input if you know anything about computers.  Trust me I've gone all over, looked at gaming PC's at the commercial electronic stores, best buy, staples, office max, office depot, I then looked into building custom PCS's, starting with barebones, I've looked at everything.

Right now I think i narrowed it down to either the build I have from cyberpowerpc, they have some nice deals still going, or from this site cpusolutions.   I thought about dropping like 2,500 dollars on one, but realistically, if I'm going to buy it now, after shipping and tax (NY) I'd like it around 1,000 give or take less than 100.  So my only needs really are: 3rd Gen Core i5 or better.  NVIDIA GTX 650 or AMD Radeon HD 7770.  1.5 TB hard drive or better.  1 x 1TB + a 500GB would be cool.  Most I've looked at were 2 TB HD.  500 Watt power supply.  8 GB DDR3 memory, at least...  Some Decent cooling fans.

I'd love an i7 but it just seems unnecessary for now.  I dont mind replacing an i5 with an i7 in a year from now even though in the long run it will cost more.  I dont mind upgrading the memory, I would love to have an internal usb expansion, and also expansion bays and expansion slots never hurt anybody.

So anyone who has a nice rig and has the time, please comment.

We had one of our regulars build us a new desktop for the register keeping in mind we want it to be able to run for 5 years without needing any upgrades whatsoever. i7 processor, 8GB RAM(which seems awful low to me), and 2 mirrored 2TB HDDs. I forget what the power supply was, but its got something.

DDR2 or DDR3?

And 8 GB isn't low at all, especially for something that's not going to be straining its system resources ever.

DDR3. He went top of the line everything. Ended up costing just shy of $1200 with keyboard/mouse and monitor.

From what I've heard, core i5 is fine for games, core i7 is more geared more towards people who are editing videos and other stuff that if you multi-task, it is a lot more tasking on your CPU.  What do you mean by mirrored HD's?

Pretty much, but damn does having an i7 make a difference.  I can render 30 minute videos in about 5 minutes in HD.

I couldn't tell you, I think it seems more like a luxury kind of processor.  Any of you guys have any luck with the highest end AMD processors.  Never used one but from what I hear they are almost as good as i5's lol.  Any gaming comp you get an AMD processor in saves you a couple hundred bucks  Afro

Alright, I think I finalized my build.  Go to www.cyberpowerpc.com and type in {536E3E64-4486-46DC-B23D-1BA2E364AB13} into load my configuration.  Its pretty similar to what I had before.

Case: Apevia X-Dreamer4 Mid-Tower Gaming Case w/ Side-Panel Window, USB 3.0 & Temperature Display
CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-4670 3.40 GHz 6MB Intel Smart Cache LGA1150
FAN: Asetek 510LC Liquid Cooling System 120MM Radiator & Fan (Enhanced Cooling Performance + Extreme Silent at 20dBA) (Dual Standard 120MM Fans (Push-Pull)
HDD: 128GB ADATA SP900 SATA-III 6.0Gb/s - 550 MB/s Read & 520 MB/s Write
HDD2: 1TB SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 32MB Cache 7200RPM HDD
MEMORY: 8GB (4GBx2) DDR3/1600MHz Dual Channel Memory
MOTHERBOARD: [CrossFireX] GIGABYTE Z87-HD3 Intel Z87 Chipset DDR3 ATX Mainboard w/ Ultra Durable 4 Plus, 7.1 HD Audio, GbLAN, 2 PCIe x16 (1 Gen3, 1 Gen2), 2 PCIe x1 & 2 PCI
OS: Microsoft® Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit Edition)
OVERCLOCK: No Overclocking
POWERSUPPLY: 500 Watts - Corsair CX500 500W 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply
SERVICE: STANDARD WARRANTY: 3-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY PLUS LIFE-TIME TECHNICAL SUPPORT
SOUND: HIGH DEFINITION ON-BOARD 7.1 AUDIO
VIDEO: AMD Radeon HD 7770 1GB 16X PCIe 3.0 Video Card [-9] (Major Brand Powered by AMD)

Please comment before I buy, a few of the things I was questioning were the cooling, only thing worrying is the gpu.  The case itself does come with 4 fans installed, and room for 2 more.  Along with the liquid cooling system I think that should be fine.  I didn't do anything overclocking, or overclocking protection.  If and when I do decide to get into that, it will probably be at least a year from now, when I'm no longer worried about voiding the regular warranty.  I didn't get the intel smart response technology.  I dont really know much about it, I plan on just putting the OS on the SSD, everything else on the HDD for the most part.  From what I'vei heard a 500 watt power supply is plenty.  Oh, and for memory it says corsair or major brand, I've read to make sure and get name brand memory, so I think that should do.  And I think I am going to add the internal usb hub, just the hub, I already have the bluetooth and wireless network card, I just think having more usb ports isn't going to hurt and I would end up buying an external one right off the bat anyways.

Now correct me if im wrong, but in NYS, tax is collected by UPS, or whoever delivers it, and that is calculated into the S & H.

So, my build as of right now is $885 + $75 ups ground = $960 total.
