Finally going to start putting together that PC. I've done some research but I still would like to see your opinions and advice. List parts, websites and stores that you guys like.

I'm thinking that I'll be going with a GTX 760 graphics card but we'll cross that bridge when we get there. I think the most important part is the motherboard so I guess we can start with that. I want everything to function well together and try to limit bottlenecks.

I use http://newegg.com to usually get a feel for what parts I want, sometimes they have good deals but I tend to shop around more.

Get an SSD, no matter what else you do.

Yeah I was hoping to avoid getting an SSD but I don't think there's any way I can avoid getting one. Games are so damn big these days. I'd hate to be waiting 40 seconds for a map to load in a brand spankin' new PC. I think an SSD lands right on the thin line of needed and not really needed.

In the end i'll include it in the price sheet but I don't think I'll start buying anything until I've got everything picked out and priced.

I really suppose I should wait until BF4 specs are released first though.

Actually I've been lurking Tom's HArdware and found a pretty good build that I think I'm going to do. Might change things up a little bit to reduce price but I generally like this guys build.

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-1771517/suggestions-custom-build-800-900.html

It's got the 760 which I was planning on buying and also that SSD. All under 900 bones.

128 GB is a bit low, though.  If you get into PC gaming big, especially with Steam, you're going to need a lot more space.

That's just the SSD though. I'll probably pick up a separate HDD as well. I think that's what they usually do.

That's gonna take up a USB slot every time you want to game, which is something you'll need to keep in mind.

Assuming your external hard drive connects vua USB and youbinstall games to that drive, you'll have to plug it in to play a game installed on it.

Get two hard drives, a smaller SSD and a larger HDD.  You connect an external HDD to your computer with a usb plug in, I mean you could always get a comp with extra usb slots.

I was thinking of going with a Gigabyte motherboard, just because there was some extra deal if you got one of those on cyberpower pc.  My one tech buddy told me to get a motherboard that wont have any compatibility problems come a few years or whatever, basically whenever your gonna need to upgrade .  I dont know all that much about Gigabyte, but MSI and ASUS for the most part shouldn't have too many compatibility problems, as far as models for motherboards, hell if I know lol.  I was going to go with either an MSI or a Gigabyte Z87.

Oh okay, I see where you're coming from. Nah, basically I'm doing what Saucy said. I'm actually getting two, one SSD and one HDD but both connected internally with SATA cables. The SSD I might get a little bit smaller since I'll probably just be using it for a couple of things like putting the OS on it. For the actual storage of games I thought I'd use a good ol HDD.

@SAuce, you got a link to the one you wanted. And Im just like you, fuck if I know about any of this ****. I've only read info online. I have some understanding but ain't no pro.

The mobo in that build doesn't have too much of a description. I'd actually like a little bit more info than what NEwegg give you. What offer were you getting with that Gigabyte mobo though? None of the things in my list are in cement so if there's something reasonably priced I could check it out.

Here ill link you to the base build I did.  http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Gamer_Xtreme_1000/ or http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Gamer_Xtreme_2000

They are pretty much the same base build, just different models.  Now I dont know if I can put it together and be able to show you in a link, If I cant I will tell you what I upgraded, for each component it has a drop down, and an addition or subtraction to your price, some upgrades may stay the same, and there is a lot of special deals, free games, use the same brand for components and get a discount, some graphics cards come with free games/ some let you upgrade from the previous for the same price.

You may want to just try this and see what different prices you can come up with.  Don't forget tax and shipping afterwords

Also, just components-wise, you may want to check out this site also; http://www.cpusolutions.com/store/pc/home.asp

I seemed to get a better overall deal from cyberpower, but just components wise, cpu solutions has a ton of stuff at pretty good prices.  They also have a bare-bones builds, and you can build a regular custom pc and they will tell you what is compatible and what isn't.

http://www.cpusolutions.com/store/pc/Gaming-Barebones-c292.htm
^Check this out for all the different barebones builds, it might not end up being the best deal honestly, but its worth trying, especially since you can get 3rd generation i7 builds starting barebones at like 550 I believe.

Upgrade to the i7. Its a bit pricier, but the i5 will be obsolete within 2 years. Worst case with the i7, everything else goes old before the processor does.
