Basically... everything in GTA is done better somewhere else. The shooting is done better in pretty much every other shooter. The driving is done better in most racers, like NFS/Burnout/etc. The open world is done better in Fallout/Red Dead. Voice acting/story is done better in The Last of Us. Physics/control is done better in inFamous/DMC/any action game. The graphics are also ok, done better in most other modern games. There is also way better music in just about everything else, because there's no outstanding OST in this. It's just a bunch of garbage music thrown together.
GTA is just a compilation of average things, (aside from the voice acting/story telling mechanic that is done very well, but still out classed by TLoU) with tacked on over-the-top immaturity to ensure the casual players want it.
There's not much that's special about it, and I can't see it appealing to anyone other than people who want to buy 1-3 games a year and just want a lasting experience. Essentially the same appeal as CoD. :/
It's seriously one of those games that gets praise that I simply do not understand. It doesn't deserve it whatsoever. The only thing it has over most games is value. It's full of so many things for $60! Yay! It's just that in order to have that, it sacrifices the quality of everything. It's all just... passable.
