Couldn't resist the thread title but just had to show off my recent purchase. One of the deputies in my county needed some cash so he was selling some guns. Picked up this beauty for a good price. It's a Colt 1911 Combat Commander.  According to Colt, it is a 1987 gun and Colt's factory installed a custom stainless steel barrel in 1995.  Shoots like a dream, trigger is short, crisp, and smooth, just like you would expect from a Colt 1911. Just ask June.  I let her shoot it the other day.  Afro

Very nice looking gun. It's a lot smaller than I would have thought actually. Did you also get a holster?

Yeah, the Commander size of 1911 has a standard government model grip, but has a 4.25" barrel instead of the full size 5". There is an even smaller version called the Officer model that has a 3.5" barrel and a shortened grip.  I like the Commander because it is big enough to be a good shooter and have a full size magazine, but is small enough to comfortably carry inside the waistband.

As for holsters, I bought two for it. My preferred concealed carry holster is Crossbreed's Supertuck. I will buy one for every pistol I ever own. It is that good. So I picked one up for this Colt as well. I also picked up Crosbreed's new outside the waistband holster called the "snapslide" for open carry (since I open carry with a suit on at work). Ultimately it isn't really a carry gun. I carry my Glock 23 on a daily basis and my Glock 26 for out and about concealing. So this one stays in the safe most of the time until we go to the range to shoot. But it has a classy look to it so I do carry it every once in a while at work.

Here are the holsters. I recommend them to anyone who carries a pistol. They are of great quality, lifetime warranty, and the comfort is such that you forget you even have your pistol on. Retention is good and with the kydex, reholstering is simple with one hand.

What do you think about those holsters that go inside your pant waist?

The Supertuck above is an inside-the-waistband holster. Unless at work, I typically carry inside my waistband with the supertuck. I have tried several variations and the crossbreed is far and away the best. It looks big, but is extremely comfortable and actually conceals the gun better than any others I've seen. The leather on the back goes against your body, inside the waistband.  Clip the two clips onto your belt. This will mean the only thing outside your pants is the exterior of those two clips. The way the clips are connected also means you can tuck your shirt behind them, but in front of the gun so you can even tuck in your shirt with this holster and it is still concealed (except the small clips that are inconspicuous).

Here is a picture of it in the pants:

Here is a picture of it with the shirt tucked in:

It is the perfect holster to me.

Those are just pictures I got from a google search. I do not endorse any particular type of watch and the posting of these photos was not intended to do so.  I do however support Glock, own two models, and carry one nearly every day.  Carry on.  Afro

Nice piece -nostagically ron thinks back 2 when he was in the army and carried the 45 as a side arm, rons 4 man team all carried 45s with 21 rounds, M16s with 180 rounds a shot gun with 24 rounds a 60 cal with 1000 rounds a M203 with 24 rounds.Side note the U.S army switched from the 38 to the 45 because when fighting in the Phillippines the natives would do drugs-wrap them selves in vines and charge the army with machetes-the 38 didnt stop them so hence the 45(hit them in the shoulder and take their arm off).
