I still think you have more of a collector mentality than I do.

But I'm glad you got your dream gun. Kind of like how I want to get the smashed penny from Disney, haha.

What gas system is it, mid lenght 16 inch?   BTW You have any pics of your 1911, such a sexy gun.  I've never shot the lake city ball or any of the military rounds really.  Not too pick on my ammo, long as its brass cases and 50-60 grain.  That said I shoot mostly steel case TULAMMO cause its cheap, and actually isn't that bad.

You've probably shot an AR before but yeah they have no recoil.  And they are loud as all hell lol.  Shot mine for the first time w/o any ear plugs, one round and I learned my lesson.  That's why I would never use one for straight up home defense, you shoot a round off in your house/ closed off area, and you'll really damage your ears lol.

They have both gas systems in the 6940. And really only for monetary reasons I passed on the piston system and bought the direct impingement system. Also, I am a stickler for constantly cleaning my guns so the excess residue in the action will be cleaned regularly anyway.

I also tend to buy cheaper target ammo for range use, but I picked up 1,000 rounds of XM855 along with the gun so I guess I'll use it.

As for loudness, I get what you're saying but in reality, it is well past the decibel level to shoot any defense gun inside. So I'm ok with using what is available. For me, that means 12 guage first choice, then AR, then pistols, in that order if all are available. Usually all are and I'd grab a shotgun along with a pistol. But it's nice to have options for me and my wife in case we are separated. Military personnel regularly use their carbines indoors and often without hearing protection. While hearing damage is common, the brain has a function of selective hearing where damaging noise levels like a gunshot are blocked from the brain (even though the ear still hears it and damage results). It's sort of like shock. In the heat of the moment the deafening noise will not likely impede your ability to fight.

Anyway, here is a pic of my 1911. I think I posted it sometime last year but here it is again. It is a 1987 Colt Combat Commander with a stainless barrel put on by Colt's custom shop in 1995.

It's used to prop the gun up. Guns are hard to take pictures of and most people use a pen/dowel/shotgun shell, etc...to put through the trigger guard to get just a slight angle so there is no glare on the gun and the picture turns out. It's for those of us poor photographers who rely on an overhead room light for our pictures. Plus I take pictures of the serial numbers of my guns for insurance purposes, and this picture was taken then. It's hard to get a good clear shot of the serial number without a prop in the trigger guard, too.

Here are some examples of other people's pictures using props:

Ok, that's what I thought but I didn't understand why it wasn't just put behind it. I get it now.

Nice gun man.  Enjoy it  Afro
A lot of people don't understand collecting guns.  I try to tel them it's really a pretty smart investment.  As long as you take care of them they only go up in value.  Not a lot of other things you can say do that.  It's nice to know you could defend yourself if it came down to that.  You never know with the way the world is going today.
Last one I got was about a month ago.  A Tri-star Tech 12.  Pretty cool shotgun.  You can flip a switch on it and it goes from pump to semi-auto.  I had never heard of one like that.  Got a good deal on it.  Could sell it right now and make a couple hundred on it.
