I'm tired of always putting my headset on when I want to watch a video or something. I went to Fry's to get a system but only half of their stuff had price labels and I couldn't come up with a reason why I should give them my money in the face of such unprofessionalism. I came home and decided I'd just make a topic out of it because we need activity.
So fellow /wu/ers, which sound system do you suggest? I'll take into consideration any price point up to $400 or 14,260 Russian Rubles (as of 4/12/14 according to Google).

My problem is that I don't know if I should go for a 5.1 system or a little 2.1. And even if I did know then the challenge becomes finding speakers that offer a good range of lows-highs and produces a clear sound. I found these http://www.amazon.com/Harman-Kardon-Soundsticks-III-Multimedia/dp/B0042F3K9WThey look super hipster and that's a big negative for me but the reviews say they produce a super clean sound. I'm actually considering these.

Lol I know next to nothing about that sort of stuff. I'm not looking to spend very much just yet, not 150, usually I have my headphones on at night since everyone here is sleeping, I just need something that sounds nice/ clean during the day when I'm home by myself.
I have about 12 inches by 36 inches on top of my desk where I can put speakers, I don't want anything too big either. Idk ill do some more looking around this week, I've just been busy. Check out newegg too, thats where I've been doing a lot of shopping recently, there 2 day shipping thing is pretty cool.

Btw, I saw some real cheap ones just around, target, walmart that sort of stuff. I knew not to buy any of them, but what wattage are you looking at? I never real bump anything too loud, but like my buddy has some spearkers he links his samsung too and its just not loud enough ya know. Anyways, say liek these, too cheap? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA0ZX1927435

Yeah I think I want to get something a little bit better. I'd say those are fine for like office use and stuff. For my personal pc I think something a little bit more heavy-hitting. I think I might actually put it off for a little while. I'm looking at my remaining balance on my car and I only have $644 left on it. I think I will probably just pay that off this weekend. I don't want to spend anymore money after that for a couple of weeks. Then I have to decide if I want some good speakers or a PS4...just to celebrate.

It all depends on what you're using it for and the room you plan on using them in. I wouldn't get anything without having a decent amp first. Look for individually powered subs, Polk audio makes decent ones for the price. Boston acoustics speakers are something I'd look for as long as you can mount them ear level. They are terrible for distributing sound over large spaces.
If you have the money, get a tube amp. If not, you probably won't need more than 400W or so judging by what you guys are saying you plan on doing with them.

My Dads got those Z623's , they sound crisp and clear when cranked with no distortion and they have a nice tight crisp bass hit.
