Also, LT, if you haven't read them before you really need to read the His Dark Materials trilogy. I read the **** outta those back in the day.

>coming of age story

Nope. Nope a million times. I don't really like coming of age stories or really anything that has to do with adolescent or child heroes. I'm sure they're great books but I just can't relate to a character that young anymore.

Right?

And what'd I tell you about the mundane parts of the book being important, huh?  Turns out that backwater agrarian planet wasn't so backwater after all.

I like it how he literally left little clues scattered throughout every "episode" of the book. You could almost deduce the importance of some of the events or characters but really, I'd never have predicted this plump mother****er being who he really was and the true identity of his world.

I rather enjoyed the books man. Thanks. This guy I think was ahead of his time.

Yeah, Asimov is generally regarded as the father of science fiction.  He wasn't the first, but he's pretty much the standard.

And the fact that he leaves clues everywhere throughout the trilogy is why it's my favorite trilogy of all time.  To be able to set up such an elaborate plot, to stick with it over the course of three books with dozens of subplots and major story arcs, and then to piece it all together in the end in a way that still surprises the reader while making them realize you'd been leading them towards this conclusion all along is nothing short of a masterpiece.

Naw, I think it's just a matter of being interested in what you're reading and working on your focus/concentration. I get like that too sometimes. I'll be "reading" and then realize I'm reading the actual words but not processing the information. After you realize that it's just a matter of telling yourself to buckle down and try to avoid letting your mind wander.

I think that bad focus when you're reading is something you can totally work on and correct on your own.

Anywho, Turbs, I need another book man. I'm about to pick up Don Quixote in Spanish. Everyone says it's great but I think I'd rather read another good sci-fi story. If you don't really have anything as good as Asimov then I'll just read that book instead.

Unfortunately, good science fiction literature is rather uncommon.  I can't think of anything off the top of my head that I've read that really impressed me, but one series I'm thinking about reading is The Damned Trilogy.  The basic plot premise is that two alien civilizations are at war and one is getting its ass beat, and they discover humans and think, "Wow, these horrifically warlike beings are basically our trump card.  We gotta get them on our side."

Granted, I haven't read it and won't for some time, but it may be worth looking into to see if you're interested.

Aside from that, there are technically four other books that are part of the Foundation series, if you're interested.  I don't know anything about them since I was more than satisfied with the trilogy and felt that that story could end for me, but if you think you'd like them I'd recommend basically anything by Asimov, lol.

Ah, yeah, I remember now.  That's why I haven't read it: it's not on Kindle as an ebook either.

Yea I checked the kindle app on my phone just a little bit ago. Dammit, I'm too lazy to go to the store.

Maybe I'll just download 1984 instead. I've never actually read it.

Do it. 1984 may be a pain to read but all the references it opens up in other things down the road makes it so worth it. And go read Catcher in the Rye if you haven't yet while we're at it.

I'll second 1984.  It's a book that everyone should read once, and it's not half bad.  I'd also recommend Brave New World if you end up liking 1984; it's a different take on dystopian society, but equally as interesting.
