I shall learn to play the piano, then.

Though, that's more my sister's department.  Girl is incredible.

One of my biggest regrets is quitting piano. I played for 8-9 ish years, did a lot of recitals and stuff, then just decided it was meh. I've recently tried to pick it back up but i don't remember theory at all (wats a scale). And I don't have time to practice much. *sigh*

I hate the whiny, high pitch vocals. I guess that means that Handy can't add anything.

I'm assuming you're basing this off the songs posted in the sad/depressed song thread and only on the sad/depressing songs I posted because implying that Frank Turner, Greg Graffin(lead singer of Bad Religion), Damion Suomi, etc. have "whiny, high pitched" voices is complete and utter blasphemy.

Here is your punishment song:

Enjoy your ear ****.

Now for legit ****. Also, I would post some of the stuff from my all time favorite folk band, but they're nonexistant on youtube ;_;. Google "WadiRum", they have a myspace page with some of there stuff on it.

Starting off with a North/South Carolina tailgate staple:

In honor of his new album being released yesterday, heres some always good Damion Suomi:

Now for random stuff since I'm too lazy to type **** before everything:

2nd Reuben song added just cuz the lead singer looks friggin psychotic in the vid.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWu-cRttEm4&feature=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3ULIEkadzw&feature=related

that should be good enough for you to start....I'll add some more as I think of them, and if you notice I layed off the few higher pitched voice bands I enjoy. I've been listening to more folksy/country music of late so that stuff comes easier to memory.

Yeah, I try to play even when I am not taking formal lessons. Gets pushed to the side a lot, though, haha.

Just remembered a few bands that I have no idea how I managed to miss. Also If you notice a theme with the bands on this post, they were mostly all on the NCAA Football 06 soundtrack. That damn game is still my all time favorite for introducing me to the likes of Bad Religion, Lagwagon, De La Soul, etc.

guys i have a request of all of you. I've been told that I act too old for my age partly because I'm more interested in older music. I generally believe that older generations produced music of much higher quality when compared to modern music. That's just the way I feel.

I hereby ask that you all provide me with the finest of todays music from whatever genre. I really dislike rap and much prefer stuff that incorporates good vocals(singing) and instrumentals. If its synthesized sound I have a hard time accepting it as art. However, as todays youth seems to prefer this type of thing I ask you to present to me the best music that you have in your music folders and ipods and stuff. I ask for only the finest of quality.

Also, please don't put too much skaterband crap on here. I hate the whiny, high pitch vocals. I guess that means that Handy can't add anything.

I had the thought yesterday, that if each generation selected the speaker of their era, it would most likely be the most popular music artist of the time. Presently, based on billboard's top 100, the speaker for my generation is Katy Perry... awesome. Where is all the music that carries more than just a catchy beat and a chick with big boobs? Where are our Kurt Cobains, Bob Marleys, Freddie Mercurys, Aretha Franklins? Where are the bands that have an impact on more than just the dance club and award shows?

Maybe that stuff's still out there struggling to catch a foot hold on some small independent label. But what pisses me off is that the popular stuff is terrible, and a lot of the gems I find are unheard of.

Way too early to judge. Someone like Deadmau5 or Skrillex might only have an impact on clubs right now but we have no idea how they are going to shape or change music in the future. There can only be one Arethra Franklin, one Freddie Mercury and one Kurt Kobain. There are tons of artists out there that are similar to them but they will never be considered in the same class because they weren't groundbreaking.

Maybe 'generation' was too extreme of a time frame, but to me, it seems like every decade there is the handful of artists that just blow everyone's minds to bits. Who were the greats of the 2000's (still confused about what to call that decade), who will we look back in 10, 20 years and say, "yeah that was some good ****". At the end of the 00 decade there wasn't really an artist that sprang up that just blew me away.

I'm not saying there aren't great artists out there, because I know there are, all I'm saying is that mainstream music seemed to be so much better than what it is today. Maybe I'm just an anti-conformist who would have hated the Beatles for being over-hyped, but it just looks mainstream music is getting more and more meh.

Greater diversity in music. The Rolling Stones were so popular because there was nothing like them. Led Zeppelin was the same ect. Now that there are more artists, there's more competition making it harder for one artist to stick around. That's why some of the less popular genres out there right now (Electronic, Progressive Metal) are dominated by one or two people/bands that can be looked at as memorable. In 20 years when more people are getting into that brand of music (assuming those styles stay around), there won't be any bands with a monopoly on the music anymore.

What it looks like is that you're thinking of people in the future looking back and saying that a certain artist was way ahead of their time and unappreciated because of that. I'm just saying the people who had songs everyone loved, continued to love and just rocked everyone's world.

But enough thread jacking this is about music right?

I've been repeating this song so hard.  Afro

Not everyone loved Kurt Kobain or Bob Marley. People argue that Nirvana took rock music in the wrong direction. Of course, they are insane but that's besides the point. There has never been and never will be an artist that is loved by everyone.

I'm sorry, but if you don't love at least ONE micheal jackson song, then, well, i dunno...but if don't, something is wrong...

Actually though, maybe your right...my white grandma probably doesn't like MJ...

so i would abreviate your statement to say that anyone ages 0-60 likes at least one MJ track...
