doesnt the sensor bar send information to the wii? how else would the cursor get on the tv? no, the sensor bar only emits infrard light from the two diodes on each end of the bar (the black shiny ends). my wireless one has no wires and therefore does not send info to the wii. the remote itself picks up the two light sources and sends the information back to the wii via bluetooth. that's why two candles will work because they give the remote two points of light with which it can orient itself. any more questions, i'm here all week

lakkus is right. The sensor bar is a misnomer. It doesn't sense anything but rather emits infrared lights. It is a hard concept for some to grasp because the infrared camera is actually in the remote. That panel on the front of your wiimote that you use to point is actually just a basic camera. It picks up the two lights from the sensor bar and based on the angles and locations of the lights that the camera in the wiimote picks up, the software translates that into location on the screen. Generally we think of uses for cameras very differently. This is why when people create uses for the wiimote such as head tracking and such, they actually put the wiimote by the tv and the sensor bar in the control of the user.
If you want to see an example of this camera use, check this out.
