That's great and all, but it doesn't take away from the fact that games like SSBB were HUGE disappointments to any serious gamer. The "core" may not be referencing **** gamers, as you have pointed out, but Nintendo is doing rather stupid things with games that could be great.
For instance, Friend Codes. I'm not going to hook up with someone I met randomly over the internet. Why, then, do I and others like me need to be protected from big, bad meanies like Undrclsshero or Messakin? Friend Codes and various other "modes of protection" largely inhibit my enjoyment of a game, as I'm sure they do for many others.
It's not that we hate Nintendo, it's just that most of us feel Nintendo is, in fact, slowly shifting from the **** fan market to the casual fan market.
This seems unfair to many of the fans who have supported Nintendo since it's fledgling years. They feel betrayed, in a way. No longer is there a close bond between the gamer's want and the game developer's response; like everyone else, Nintendo is in it for the money, not for the fans.
I agree, friend codes are very kechua bt neccessary for the younger kids, but games that are rated teen and Mature shouldnt need friend codes because they should assume ur not that stupid to go and go meet with the stranger named leslie who happens to be a 39 year old man who likes teenage boys. Or altogether if you are over 17 and legally allowed to own a mature game then that shouldnt be a problem because i believe the last time a guy age 17 or older was kidnapped other than for assasination was....say....NEVER!!!!!!

well now we're getting somewhere. The current complaints have been biggest for games like The conduit, which is M rated. Yet appears will still have FCs. That is lame and shows that nintendo has no intention to implement a decent system. we're getting nowhere, actually. something that is in the thoughts of gamers(who have to deal with fc's on a regular basis when playing wii/ds games online) may not necessarily cross the minds of anyone working at nintendo.(who have much more to worry about than whether M rated games have friend codes or not) besides even with fc's it's possible to have lobbies + option to auto-add codes from encountered players + option to add from wii address book + talk with anyone in a room.(whether or not they're on your friend roster)

lol you are describing a gamertag type system that completely defeats the stated purpose of friend codes and as you describe it would be nothing more than a 12 digit gamertag. If you think nintendo will implement such a system with FCs you are nuts. Plus if they did do that, then why not just let us pick our names?

If a parent can't make a password that their kids can't guess then they are truly ignorant. As a parent with kids who play I can promise you that with very little effort this can be accomplished.

Because they'd still act as friend codes for anyone who doesn't play Mature games. for those who do the system would be more flexible. and it's obvious that someone at nintendo thinks customer satisfaction isn't the only issue with online & FC's, or they probably would have dropped them already.

@pandasdontfloat: what lawyer(and others) have assumed is that random matchmaking is a result of having friend codes, if he had read the interviews with nintendo reps he would know that came about as an attempt to even the playing field.(by matching player up with those of similar rank)
in truth, there's nothing about the friend codes system that lends it to randomized matches, it's just the direction NWC has gone.
