Your right lakk. I think a sub forum would be cool. Look at our OG forum. We talk in there all the time (well sometimes) and no noobs overthrow our posts. Shoot we could even make official gg threads, MoH threads, wawii threads, etc...without interest for younger people. But its still open to the public therefore there isn't any problem with it.

Everybody is missing the point here. There are different issues. 1. Paranoid wants a private forum so he can avoid spam (Paranoid's definition of spam that is)! Most of the regular posters have been asking for the same thing. Creating a private forum for founding members only does not fix the problem. They will still have spam in their private forum and will still have to deal with it if they ever post in the public forums. The rest of us still have to deal with problem #1 because the mods do not delete spam. 2. These people will post fewer times in the public forum. You can't tell me that this won't be the case. It will. For example, what if someone makes a "Movie quote" thread (or other ASE threads). There will be no incentive to create the same thread in the public forum. If you do then people certainly won't make the same posts in both threads. Or there will likely be similar posts in both threads and then the founding members will lose interest because they won't want to read the same thing twice. Plus if threads are made in the public space then they still have to deal with problem #1. 3. Dru and Paranoid I believe want a place to hang out with other people (I thought this is what WU, a public forum, was for). 4. I think I had some other points, but I have to go, so maybe I'll add them later My suggestion is this: Make a public area with all of the founding members as Mods. That way they don't need to have double threads (same thread private and public) because everyone can read what is there and can post, but all members will be able to delete spam. That way they'll surely be able to keep control of their area (just like the clan sub-forums) the way they want to and everyone can participate. This setup will allow people like Paranoid to keep a thread in pristine condition even if founding members spam it. Paranoid, I disagree with the comment about Ress. His first posts are typically antagonizing or a joke. Yes he throws in some decent comments at times too, but you have to realize that he posts in a lot of topics and there is no way he has something relevant to say in all of those topics. Not possible.

The last part is what I was agreeing to when I said sub forum. That way its still public and people will have to respect the rules (just like chat boxes) or get modded. Simple as that.

LOL. I think we are in agreement But you guys do whatever you want. You are the Founding Members. I can leave whenever I want if I'm not happy with the way the site is setup or run or modded or whatever. I could make my own forum....maybe call it Gamers Unite or something since not everyone has a Wii or likes the Wii. Oh, or maybe WD, Wii Defect

OK, let me clear things up because the last 4 pages have been about avoiding spam. If I were to support such a board, it would NOT be for the reasons many of the founding members are stating. If they choose to utilize the board to avoid spam, fine, but having people be able to avoid all spam will NOT be a consideration in my vote for or against this board. So for me the last 4 pages of this thread are useless. I only support this board as a perk for founding members (because like I said, they have no real useful perks anymore). I also made it clear I would also only support such a board if there was another way for other members to get in, be it post count or a "sage" process (for those ex-Nsider people). But certainly not to lock out everyone forever. Obviously Ress, and K and Mum and others on our top 10 poster list deserve similar recognition for their contributions to the site as the founding members who helped us get off the ground. Plus, as has been pointed out, many of the founding members (and especially the mods/admins) were some of the biggest spammers and goof-offs at GF, so I would anticipate that a private board would be just as spammy and goofy as the public boards. So if you think a founding members board is a way to avoid spam you are sadly mistaken. Heck, I'll probably spam the crap out of it. That is my opinion on the subject, so hopefully the discussion can turn away from a spammer vs. non-spammer argument and to issues that will actually be considered, and that is a possible new perk for members who have one way or another benefited the site. And say what you will about founding members like Dreamr, he showed up on the first day and contributed to the traffic and posting of a fledgling little site when we needed it most. Whether I like him or not, I appreciate that and I think this site should reward its loyal members and those who have helped along the way.

I would be willing to compromise. Everyone has been bringing up some great points.

I'd agree with having mum, kreater, lakk (even though i do hate him :/ ), i mean it makes sense. they do make huge contributions to WU. The only problem with having a post count would be that then the spammers would be in there as well because they have plenty of posts... if there were a way we could not have some of the spammers, like r oce, i8urpie, and the people who i think many people agree are "spammers" in the section, it would be fine.
And I understand what you mean by saying it's not to avoid spam entirely ohio, but that's not what we're asking for. I'm just saying it'd be nice to be able to have a place with topics that were at least slightly more on topic, or if off topic, done so on purpose.

yeah that's why I mentioned a "sage" system like Nsider had. Where it wasn't really based on post count, but there was a process that people went through that demonstrated they were worthy (putting aside the elitists at Nsider). It had to do with nominations, then voting by mods and other sages, and if I remember right they also had to write at least one game review for the site. Granted our process could be very different, but there should at least be a way to allow non-founding members to gain access.

Lol! You removed my smiley. So to stay on topic, yes any of those systems may accomodate this situation. Thank you your honor, no further comments.

Like I said before, if this special board was made, then the posts made in it would not count towards your post count, just like they don't in Backdraft and the Un-Seeing Eye, right?
Anyways, Ohio's said this quite a bit, but FM's do need perks since they've practically lost them to the non-FM's.
