Title: Patch 1.5 being released today (April 5th)
Post by: Turboweasle on April 05, 2012, 01:50:30 pm
Full list of what it adds/fixes can be found here (http://www.gamepur.com/news/7649-skyrim-patch-15-coming-ps3-and-xbox-360-today.html).

Notable additions:

- Kill animations for bows and spells; additional kill animations for swords/axes/maces
- Value of an item now factors in to how much the Smithing skill will increase upon that item's creation.

So no more Iron Dagger making? ):

Pretty much.  It may still be useful for low-level Smithing increases, but not for going all the way to 100.

Shucks, should've made it to 100 Smithing before the patch came out.  At any rate, I do think it's a good idea as the previous method didn't make much sense.  Crafting Dragon Plate armour should give you more skill than Iron armour.

Definitely agree about the armor differences.

But, as for your concern about wanting to get to 100, you could always just not install the patch, get Smithing to 100, then install the patch.

Well it doesn't really matter too much to me to get 100 Smithing but it is difficult to get the Daedric Bow otherwise.  You need to be around Lv. 50 for it to start spawning in master chests.  (Or so I've read) and I'm only Lv. 36 or so and have beaten all the quests.

Surely you haven't gone in every dungeon, though, right?

When I roam around Skyrim, there's never any black, unfound locations and I go to the areas that seem to have less cluttered locations.  There's a few quests that've glitched/bugged out on me and maybe one dungeon I missed but I'm basically done the game. Time for DLC. :P

Wow.  So, every cave/fort/whatever has "-cleared" under its name?

How much time do you have on that save?

I haven't checked, but I'll admit I was pretty addicted when I got it for Christmas.  Within a week I had over 100 hours. :-X

Damn dude, I can't say I'm not impressed.  Nerd cred right there.

I didn't realize the dragon priest masks and the claws were all quests, too. I just thought they were loot (albeit good loot). I learned the hard way that some items only spawn once and you can't go back to get them from the merchants. :(

Yeah, I had the same thought about the dragon priest masks.  I haven't done that quest yet, but I really, really want to.  It seems so cool.

Yeah, I thought about doing it on my 2nd account. I have already done all the daedric quests on that one, too. I haven't sold any of the big stuff on the second account yet.

I love the daedric quests.  I haven't finished all of them, but so far the most messed-up one was Molag Bal's.  That house was creepy, he's creepy, and the end of the quest is just sadistic as all hell.  Definitely showed Molag Bal in the proper light.

I didn't like Namira's quest.

Eating people?

Yeah... it was that quest that I originally failed because I killed the girl instead. Then I realized much later that I needed the quest item in order to get the platty.  >:(

I killed her too so I don't have the achievement. ):

Wait, is that the one you start by doing the quest in Markarth for the priest, where the bodies in the Hall of the Dead were being eaten?

Wonderful.  I don't want my most-accomplished character, Scruffy McFancypaws, to be a cannibal.  :|

Yeah, you get a perk if you eat the corpses of people you kill as well. Gross.

Post by: Tiger on April 09, 2012, 10:20:45 pm
What's the perk?  I'm a werewolf so eating corpses you've killed usually lets you stay a werewolf for longer (though I have the infinite version with the Ring of Hircine).  Do both the normal werewolf eating affects and the affect you mentioned work at the same time?

The ring of Namira gives you +50 stamina and increased health/health regen.

I don't know the perks of the ring of Hircine. I also don't know if the two effects pile up, either. I hardly ever change into a werewolf.

Well, I just played for the first time after the 1.05 update.  Bow cinematic kills are cool, but they seem like they're going to get tedious.  I'm getting them every time I one-shot an enemy.

Since I was playing on the easiest difficulty setting earlier (because I care more for storyline and progression than a challenge), that will be many kills.  With my Daedric bow and a 3x sneak multiplier, I can kill a giant or mammoth in one arrow.

Whaaaa

I've never messed with the difficulty and found it to be just right.  As long as you've got decent gear, there's no instance in which you're outmatched, unless you just stumbled into a 5 vs 1 scenario on accident.

It has nothing to do with my skill level.  I have no doubt that I can beat the majority of the game on Master, it's just not something I look to do.  I could beat Black Ops' campaign on Veteran but it's just stressful and annoying, and I wouldn't enjoy it.

Well, if you're having fun I guess that's the point.  Still, seems like one-hitting everything would get a bit redundant.  How do you keep it interesting?  Roleplaying?

Why do you think I haven't played Skyrim in the past few weeks? :D

At any rate, not everything is a one-shot kill.  Most sneak attacks are but if I'm spotted most guards take two arrows and more for other creatures.  Skyrim's combat isn't typically what I like but because it's overall such an immersive game, I still enjoy it.  I prefer stealth where it's very easy to die, but very easy to kill.  Hence, why I find sniping in CoD so addictive.  I can get quick kills but if I'm not careful, I'm screwed.  Makes it more intense (imo).

What's your ideal form of combat in an RPG?

Title: Re: Patch 1.5 being released today (April 5th)
Post by: Tiger on April 10, 2012, 07:13:13 pm
There aren't really any.  I play them because I love the choice, customization and storyline.  Fable II had pretty good, yet simple combat but Fable III overdid the simplicity and made it boring and repetitive.  Plus the game had enough glitches to give MoHH2 a run for its money.

Well, if you like fairly realistic combat, check out Dark Souls.  It's challenging but fair, and the story is rich if you're willing to look for it.

I can say that Mass Effect is one of my favourite games of all time.  The second one was great too but didn't have the same overwhelming sense of the universe to me.

I take it you haven't played the third one yet?

If you do, let me go ahead and give my condolences.

I was lent the first and second ones from a friend and I'm assuming him or his two brothers will buy the third and I'll get it from him.  Cheap, but I'm a Mennonite so I avoid spending money in any way I can.

If the internet's reaction is in any way indicative of how your experience will be, then be prepared for disappointment.

I read the critic reviews and it was pretty well rated.  The user score for MW3 was extremely low because a bunch of trollers/haters.  Same thing happened to ME3.

I wouldn't say ME3's user score was low because of trolls.

Most of the 1.3 million subscribers of r/gaming were outraged by it.

People like endings to be "Escape" if you know what I mean.  I'm guessing it wasn't.
