Enjoy!

This morning at 6am est Iwata held a Nintendo Direct for Japan. I got up and watched it on GoNintendo. Here are some bullet points of the information talked about in the 35 minute session. Some of the info is for Japan only.

- first you have to create a Wii U user account, with a Mii associated with it
   - up to 12 accounts per system
   - Game settings, save data tied to user accounts. Browser bookmarks, play history as well.
- Nintendo Network ID needs username, password, email address, area of residence, date of birth and gender.

   - Video chat, other networking services require Nintendo Network ID
   - Nintendo Network purchases by one user can be played by other users on same system
   - Nintendo Network to be usable on other Nintendo game systems, PCs, smartphones.

- You can follow other players you see in the Miiverse boards and register them as friends.
- Miiverse is supported in all Wii U games, though the implementation depends per game. No additional work from devs needed for basic implementation.
   - In certain games, leave situation-specific comments and read others' thoughts there.
   - In the case of NSMBU, you will see comments from others players plus their reactions to the levels.

Here is some Miiverse information from an Iwata Ask.

- exchange each others ID numbers in the same style as Friend Codes
- Miiverse ideas began with Wii no Ma services
- Wii no Ma couldn't be updated that frequently, which is something Nintendo regrets
- user-generated content was considered for Wii no Ma
- Iwata calls Miiverse an 'empathy network'
- Iwata brought this idea to Nintendo's internal producers, directors, advertisers, sales people and more
- The idea to have the Miis running around in a plaza, rather than a standard online menu, was discussed early on

- Wii U console menu is coordinated by the director of Animal Crossing
- Eguchi wanted Miiverse to be a service that players could use more freely
- this was an idea ever since working on Animal Crossing, but the capability wasn't there back then
- Flipnote Studio had a part in the inspiration for Miiverse
- some ideas are similar between the two, but each service has its unique features
- with network services, the first level you interact comfortably with people you know. On the second level, you interact based on shared interests and sentiments with people you don't know personally.
- this idea lead to Miiverse having an open format

- You don't have to show your real name on Miiverse. You can display just your Mii nickname if you'd like.
- Miyamoto exerts tremendous tenacity when making something, so that people will feel empathy towards it
- Miiverse has a 'yeah' button if someone says something that resonates with you
- Nintendo wanted to provide a service that was more fun to use than the Friend Code systems of the past
- they saw that people would exchange friend codes online via messageboards
- Nintendo worked with Hatena to create Miiverse
- Mario Club gave the notification function great reviews
- Nintendo can change the Miiverse service from the server side
- some devs feel uneasy about the service after release, not knowing what people will do with it
- access Miiverse with a smartphone or computer
- Hatena and Nintendo worked hard, pushing forward and plowing through any issues that came up
- change the expressions of your Mii to convey feelings

Wii U internet requirements and parental control info

- Parental Controls will automatically block certain System Settings options
   - these include Internet Settings, System Transfers and the ability to format the system's memory
   - these features can be accessed under restriction using an identification PIN number obtained during initial parental control setup
   - restriction options for the Wii U's parental controls include blocking based on game ratings and on all entertainment other than games
   - users can also be prevented from accessing all games' online components, use of the Internet browser and the Wii U shopping program, posting in and viewing MiiVerse content, finding and registering new friends, and managing the console's data

3-5 hours huh?  Wonder if you have the option to switch batteries in case you're doing an all-nighter or something?  Probably not.

Thanks for the info Krazy  O0

No problem. It uses a built in battery though. You can also play while charging it.

The news just won't stop. I'll update my last post with stuff too.

Internal storage
- cannot be removed

The SD Card Situation
- SD cards - up to 2 GB
- SDHC cards - up to 32 GB
   - possible that larger SDHC cards might work
- will not support SDXC or "UHS-type" cards
- if you use a Micro or Mini SD card, you'll need an adapter

Turning on the System
- Turn on via button on Wii U or GamePad button
   - can use without turning on TV
- can turn on TV via GamePad
- access the GamePad and turn on your Wii U through the controller's touch screen

The Wii Application
- to play Wii Virtual Console, WiiWare or original Wii software, you'll need to access the Wii application from your main Wii U interface
   - you'll need to use the Wii remote to navigate this environment
- WiiConnect24 functionality will not work

Digital manual
- comes with print manual
   - also includes digital manual embedded in system itself
   - this is accessible through the home screen

Title: Re: Past Nintendo Directs Topic (Nov. & Jan.)
Post by: The Krazy One on November 14, 2012, 03:04:57 pm
My computer keeps freezing so I'm just going to post this.

Here's the link to the Nintendo Direct: http://youtu.be/e6q8sNhm4uM

I haven't watched it yet. Replace "Premium" with "Deluxe".

These are the bulletpoints from it.

Parental Controls
- Nintendo realizes that some parents may fear that their children may use the Wii U's internet functionality without permission. Wii U has Parental Controls.
   - Can restrict content based on user age, CERO (Japan ESRB) rating, internet functionality, internet browser, e-Shop spending, Miiverse functionality, friend registrations, videos, data management, internet settings
   - Wii U keyboard input can save user input habits and predictive input in a specific database that depends on the game and user. Wii U does not save input data that you don't want other users to know into the database.
   - Miiverse settings can be turned on/off depending on the save profiles per game.

USB Data Storage
- 8GB = 7.2GB, 32GB = 29GB in terms of actual save data. Wii U uses around 4.2GB when using the system for the first time.
- NSMBU is ~2GB, Nintendo Land is ~3.2GB. So, both won't fit into the Basic set at the same time.
- Wii U lets you put data onto a connected USB media drive.
- One USB drive at a time only.
- Cannot disconnect the external drive while plugged into the Wii U and receiving power.
- You can use general drives.
- Nintendo cannot guarantee that small hard disks (bus-powered) that require more power than USB 2.0 can handle will work properly.
- Generally, hard disks that have Y-Cables (2 USB connectors) will work with the Wii U.
- Nintendo warns that for USB flash drives, even though the Wii U will detect and connect them as it would a hard disk, due to limitations on the number of times data is read from the disk and how this will eventually wear the USB flash drive down, Nintendo does NOT recommend leaving important save and other game data on a USB flash drive for long periods of time. How this plays out depends on the game, of course.
- Wii U will read up to 2TB only for external hard drives even if hard drive has more space.
- In Data Management, you must format the connected media drive. Note that this means you cannot use the drive with a PC.
- You can move data from internal Wii U storage to external USB media in Data Management and vice versa. Data on both internal and external media will appear in the menu.
- At launch, only 1 USB hard drive can be connected, but through a future update, more than 1 will be possible and you will be able to move data between them freely.
- SD Cards can hold PC data, Wii Virtual Console, Wii Ware, and Wii save data, but cannot be used to save Wii U game save data.

Backwards Compatibility
- Wii games, Virtual Console, Wii Ware stuff cannot be played using the GamePad screen, but only on the TV in Wii Mode
- Iwata: "We understand that there are people who were looking forward to playing Wii games, Virtual Console games, and so forth on the GamePad, but unfortunately we cannot accommodate those users' expectations."
- There are plans for a Wii U Virtual Console that WILL be compatible with the Wii U GamePad. Please look forward to it in the future.

Nintendo Network Premium
- For Premium Set buyers only
- Point service
- Make Nintendo Network ID, then login to find and use the service
- After logging in, you can see the points you have earned
- Buy with download card or download number
- Earn 10% back on purchases
- Earn back purchase points in ¥500 increments
- Points earned can be used with Wii U/3DS e-Shop, Wii Shopping Channel, DSi Shop

Title: Valentine's Day Nintendo Direct (Feb. 14)
Post by: The Krazy One on February 13, 2013, 04:11:39 pm
I'm making the topic now because it'll be in the morning of tomorrow.

This Valentine's Day we will learn more about future Wii U and 3DS titles. There is also a European Nintendo Direct but that one will cover only 3DS titles. That's all I know for now.

The North American Nintendo Direct will start at 9am Eastern, 8am Central, 7am Mountain, 6am Pacific times.
It can be seen here: http://www.nintendo.com/nintendo-direct

The European Nintendo Direct will start at 3pm in Berlin.
You can see that here: http://www.nintendo.co.uk/Misc-/Nintendo-Direct/Latest-Nintendo-Direct/Nintendo-Direct-698557.html

My post tomorrow in this topic will likely be the information gathered from the broadcast. We'll see what they talk about come tomorrow. Or I'll see what the talk about and post it here afterwards.  ;)

Pretty much. It'll probably be a mix of games that are coming out in the near future, games we know about and maybe if we're lucky a game announcement or two.

Players can divide activities among the different characters, and explore separate areas in the same map with different groups of Pikmin. Using the GamePad (known as the KopPad in the game), players can view the overall map and grasp what each character and Pikmin are up to. Players also can choose their preferred control option: GamePad in conjunction with the TV, Wii Remote Plus and Nunchuk combo or GamePad only in off-TV mode. Looks like I'll be needing a Wii U in addition to my PS4 this year. Wind Waker HD and Mario Kart 8 ftw. Of course, SSB next year, too. :)

They REALLY need to lower their price though, considering the PS4 is $400. There's no way the $350 price point can stand up, as it's hardly next-gen hardware.

This, big time.

I'm a little disappointed. I love SSB and I liked what I saw with Kart, but where are all the real hard core titles? Where is Zelda and Metroid? Where is Fox?

Good posts Krazy.  Looks like they screwed up Mario Kart again >:(  I was really hoping the bikes would not be back.  They had such an advantage over karts and  the Wii version became Mario Bikes, but I will probably still get it since the pros will outweigh the cons.
Wonderful 101 looks kinda cool.  Kinda makes me think of Pikmin.  Hope it has online play though.

They REALLY need to lower their price though, considering the PS4 is $400. There's no way the $350 price point can stand up, as it's hardly next-gen hardware.
I'm just curious as to why people seem to have no problem paying $400 for the PS4 but feel like the Wii U is not worth $350?  I haven't really looked into the PS4 capabilities so I really don't know.  Is it going to be that much better?  I mean the Wii U has 1080HD and good online play(free) and the gamepad is pretty innovative IMO.  I guess I get that it still needs some better games to come out, but just comparing consoles, is the PS4 going to be that much better?  Does it come with a glory hole? :D

Oh and the being able to drop the game down to the gamepad only so someone can watch tv is pretty cool too.  That seems "next gen" to me.

Ghost is coming to the Wii U. Unless you mean Ghost is the last official CoD game.

They, as in n-Space (the n doesn't mean Nintendo), should bring back Geist. Geist was a Gamecube game made by n-Space and published by Nintendo. It was a unique FPS. I think Nintendo owns the IP.

Quote
Two Limited Edition Pokémon-themed Nintendo 3DS XL Systems Launching on September 27

BELLEVUE, WA--September 4, 2013--In a surprising twist announced this morning during a special Nintendo Direct presentation, Pokémon X and Pokémon Y players do not receive Chespin, Fennekin, or Froakie from Professor Sycamore but are in fact given the choice of a classic partner Pokémon--Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle--from the very first Pokémon games, Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue! Adding to the excitement, once a player has evolved this Pokémon into Venusaur, Charizard, or Blastoise and obtained its unique Mega Stone, the Pokémon will be able to Mega Evolve while in battle.Mega Venusaur, Mega Charizard, and Mega Blastoise will possess overwhelming powers never before seen in a Pokémon game. Players can choose fan favorite Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle whenPokémon X and Pokémon Y launch worldwide October 12, 2013, for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems.

More secrets about Mega Evolution were also revealed today. It was previously announced that certain Pokémon needed to hold a unique Mega Stone in order to Mega Evolve, but now it's known that there is a second requirement players must fulfill for Mega Evolution to occur. Trainers must also obtain a bracelet called the Mega Ring that holds a mysterious stone called a Key Stone. The Trainer's Key Stone resonates with the Mega Stone held by his or her Pokémon, and together they trigger the Evolution that is normally impossible--Mega Evolution.

Director from GAME FREAK inc., Mr. Junichi Masuda, also announced Pokémon Bank--a new Nintendo 3DS application and service that allows Pokémon X and Pokémon Y players to conveniently store up to 3,000 of their beloved Pokémon on the Internet. Pokémon Bank gives players the flexibility to store and deposit 100 Boxes worth of Pokémon. This is in addition to the Boxes found within Pokémon Xand Pokémon Y, just like in previous Pokémon titles.

Additional features of Pokémon Bank include the ability to deposit and withdraw Pokémon from multiple copies of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. Once a Pokémon X or Pokémon Y Game Card is inserted into a Nintendo 3DS system or the downloadable version of the game is opened, the Pokémon Bank software can be turned on for use. Players can then transfer Pokémon from multiple copies of the game via Pokémon Bank to one copy of Pokémon X or Pokémon Y.

Pokémon Bank software is activated upon payment of an annual service fee. This charge will support maintenance of the online server that allows players to store up to 3,000 Pokémon conveniently, and will provide the application's support for future Pokémon titles.

Players who activate Pokémon Bank, will be able to use its linked application, Poké Transporter, which makes transferring many Pokémon caught in other Pokémon games easy. What used to be a lengthy process to transfer Pokémon from a previous Pokémon game to the latest titles is now a breeze with Poké Transporter--just insert Pokémon Black, Pokémon White, Pokémon Black 2, or Pokémon White 2into your Nintendo 3DS system and use Poké Transporter to transfer Pokémon from those games into Pokémon Bank.

Pokémon Bank will be available in North America on Nintendo eShop. More details about this software, including a free trial period, will be added to Pokemon.com in the near future.

Also announced in this morning's Nintendo Direct presentation were details for the North American release of two special Nintendo 3DS XL hardware designs featuring imagery from Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. These systems come in Red or Blue and feature brand new Legendary Pokémon Xerneas and Yveltal. The systems will launch on September 27 at a suggested retail price of $199.99 each.

Pokemon Bank Details:
- An application and service for Pokémon X and Pokémon Y that will allow you to deposit, store, and manage your Pokémon in private Boxes on the Internet.
- Pokémon Bank will be a resource for players who like to obtain many different kinds of Pokémon, or for those who like to raise many Pokémon in preparation for battles and competitions.
- As long as you have Pokémon Bank, you'll be able to link up to your own dedicated Boxes online using your Nintendo 3DS to easily deposit and withdraw your precious Pokémon.
- If the worst were to somehow happen and you lost your copy of Pokémon X or Pokémon Y, your Pokémon would still be safe and ready to be withdrawn to a new game if they were deposited to Pokémon Bank.
- In Pokémon Bank, you'll have 100 Boxes that can hold 30 Pokémon each, allowing you to store a total of 3.000 Pokémon.
- With Pokémon Bank, you can deposit and withdraw Pokémon from different copies of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y.
- Pokémon Bank has a variety of search functions, so you can find the Pokémon you're after among all of the Pokémon you've deposited.
- The Pokémon Bank application and service allows you to store your Pokémon on an online server. To ensure that the service stays running worry-free for all of its users, Pokémon Bank will be a paid service.
- An annual charge will allow the service to be maintained long-term so it can provide support for future Pokémon titles.
- There will be a free trial period for everyone.
- When you download Pokémon Bank, you can also download the linked application Poké Transporter.
- When you insert a Pokémon Black Version, Pokémon White Version, Pokémon Black Version 2, or Pokémon White Version 2 Game Card into a Nintendo 3DS system, you'll be able to use Poké Transporter to transfer Pokémon from these games into their own online Boxes. Then, you can easily transfer those Pokémon into Pokémon X and Pokémon Y using Pokémon Bank.
- You may find yourself unable to use Pokémon Bank or Poké Transporter to deposit any Pokémon created illegally by software unauthorized by The Pokémon Company and Nintendo into your online Boxes, or to move these Pokémon between online Boxes.

I think that's all. I'm still watching the full presentation.

Title: Wii Fit U Direct / Wii Sports Club
Post by: The Krazy One on September 18, 2013, 04:30:50 pm
Here's the whole Direct. About 20 minutes.
http://youtu.be/elXyFF-jBTg

If you don't feel like watching through the Wii Fit U stuff to get to the next thing, here's the video for the Wii Sports Club info.
http://youtu.be/L1S0mKV6lY4

Details from the Direct if you don't want to watch it.

- Introduction to the Direct is done by the Wii Fit trainer.
- 19 new training activities and the ones from the previous Wii Fit games are included. Makes it 77 now.
- ''We hope that you like the new look of the Wii Fit U trainer, inspires you to perform better.''
- With the Fit Meter, you can now have a better look at the calories you burn.
- It is not a Pedometer, but an Activity meter as it uses a 3-axis accelerometer.
- Pressure sensor can measure changes in altitude. This can make certain that the calories you burn are accurate.
- Fit meter must be attached to the hip, because this lowers measurement error.
- Meter displays calories burned, steps, target calories, elevation difference from home, time, temperature, METs Graph, elevation graph and a graph of calories burned. Data can be transferred through IR port of the GamePad.
- Graphs in the Wii Fit U software will go in accurate detail of your progress now, which is a nice touch.
- After a discussion of graphs, Iwata moves on. If you fail your goal by walking, the game can recommend activities for you.
- There is also a seperate mode called Fit Meter challenge, which uses your steps or altitude for special challenges.
- The Fit meter will be released in Europe and North America on November 1st.
- Iwata wants people to make use of the game's online stuff. Like announced before, you can make a gym community on Miiverse.
- You make sure that you have similar goals. Will see the progress of others and can compare stats.
- One month free trial of Wii Fit U, if you have bought the previous entries. The downloading begins on November 1st in EU and NA. Japan will get to start a day ealier though as they can download on October 31.
- Can use it for month though, as after that it's useless. If you purchase a Fit Meter, you will be able to continue to play. Fit meter is $19.99
- Iwata is aware of the issue with storage and the basic pack. ''Consider getting an external drive!''
- The regular DL version will be released on... February 1st worldwide. Packaged version with Meter (and Balance Board if you need it). December 6 in Europe and December 13 in North America. The packaged version in Japan in delayed until February 1st.
- You can now use the balance board in Wii Street U and it is available right now.
- Iwata reminds us that Wii Street U is available for free until October 31, 2013.

- Finally, Wii Sports is becoming a download software title on Wii U. This title of the software is called Wii Sports Club.
- All the sports have been upgraded to work just with Wii Remote Plus tech.
- There is now also online multiplayer, which was a request from the fans apparently.
- You are playing as a registered member of a club. This can be state or regional.
- There will be communication by special made Miiverse functions. Face off friendly with club members or defeat other clubs.
- The software serves as a hub, from which you can select the sports. You have to purchase all the sports seperately though.
- Available for download on November 7, 2013 in Europe and NA. October 30 in Japan. Tennis and Bowling will be available from the software's launch.
- Single sports pass (Club Pass in NA) will set you back €9.99/£8.99/$9.99/1000 Yen. This allows you to purchase a sport at your own leisure.
- There is also a day pass, which sets you back €1.99/£1.79/$1.99/200 Yen. This gives you unlimited access to the sports for 24 hours.
- Wii Sports Club is available to play for free in the first 24 hours. That was the presentation!

Info all from GoNintendo.

Title: Wii U Update (Sept 30)
Post by: The Krazy One on September 30, 2013, 08:16:40 pm
I'll just post about it here. There is a firmware update that currently went up. It's 648MB. The below is what it apparently includes.

-USB Keyboard
-Wii Off TV Play (still requires Wiimotes)
-Surround Sound support for Wii games (Dolby Pro Logic II)
-Access Friend's List from Wii U menu directly
-Upload screens taken when pausing the game directly to blogs and forums using the browser.
-Option to receive automatically downloaded software from Nintendo.
-Wii U Chat via headset connected to the Game Pad
 -View PDFs on the Browser.

Got that info from NeoGAF.

Excited about Lil' Mac and the confirmation of Waluigi in Mario Kart 8 though.

Not that I've seen. I've never seen him in any of the trailers. Maybe I'm stupid. :P

I was updating the Mario Kart 8 topic on the Mario Kart board and was looking for the trailers. It seems that Waluigi was in the reveal trailer back at the E3 Nintendo Direct last year.

I'm also updating the roster for that game in that topic I brought up earlier. It's pretty big so far after this new trailer.

Title: Smash Bros. Direct (Apr. 8th)
Post by: The Krazy One on April 04, 2014, 01:44:43 pm
Sakurai announced from todays "Picture of the day" update that there will be a Nintendo Direct completely focused on Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS. It's a little early to be making this topic but I had to get the word out since it's one of two games people are waiting to buy a Wii U for. The other being Mario Kart 8 but that'll be handled in a topic I made yesterday.

The Smash Bros. Direct will happen next tuesday (April 8th) at 6pm Eastern (3pm PST, 4pm Mountain, 5pm Central, 11pm EU). You'll be able to watch it on the official Smash Bros site where he puts the "pic of the day" at  smashbros.com

Like usual I will gather the info after it is over, most likely from Gonintendo and post it here for all 5 of you to see. We'll see ya then! O0

You can either watch it here:

Title: Smash Bros. Info
Post by: The Krazy One on April 08, 2014, 06:39:55 pm
This is the info gathered from the Super Smash Bros. Direct.

Release Date (Window): 3DS version- Summer 2014, Wii U version- Winter 2014
 - 3DS version runs at 60fps in 3D
 - some assist trophies will run at 30fps
 - fighter lineup the same between both games, but the stages will be different
 - in the 3DS version, each stage has 2 songs tied to it
 - in the Wii U version, visit My Music to play songs from past Smash games

- past stages returning in both versions
 - Dr. Wily castle stage has the Yellow Devil attack the fighters at random times. The last person to get the final hit on the Yellow Devil will net them a massive explosion attack hurting all other players.
 - boss characters appear in other stages as well

- Both versions of the game will have online play
 - For Fun and For Glory online play modes when not playing with friends. For Fun includes random stage (except Final Destination) and items. You can also set parameters as you choose. Number of victories will be recorded. For Glory only lets you play only Final Destination. No items will be available here either.

- online play will now show Nintendo Network IDs. Online play will try to combat people that try to drop out of matches and may even ban them.

- online play will have a scoring competition. This will include scores for solo modes. This is called Global Smash Power. The larger the number, the better the player. This is compared to players worldwide. No rankings for online multiplayer, but matchmaking based on skill levels.

- Almost every stage has a Final Destination form

- There is a Master Ball item that summons rare and Legendary Pokémon. Arceus is confirmed as one of them.

- Samus' suit will no longer fall off after her Final Smash. Zero Suit Samus is still included on the roster, though. She now has jet boots.
 - Zelda now has a Phantom Slash move that brings in a guard from Phantom Hourglass. Sheik also returns with burst grenade and bouncing fish moves.
- Kirby now has a Hammer Flip attack and an Ultra Sword final smash.
- King Dedede no longer throws Waddle Dees. He hits Gordos at you now.
 - Lucario's aura attack has been strengthened. He also has a Mega Evolution
 - Olimar can only have 3 Pikmin following him. Olimar now plucks Pikmin in a fixed order. He now uses winged Pikmin for his recovery jump.

- Pit has had the glide move removed. Three sacred treasures as the final smash
- Yoshi is returning and now stands more upright
- Rosalina can shoot out the Luma and control it separately, if wanted. They each have a different set of moves. She has a Star Bits move, a launch star long distance move, a gravitational pull that draws in items and blocks enemy shots, and a power star final smash.
 - Little Mac has a Smash Attack that has megaton levels, but he is very weak in the air. He also has a terrible recovery ability. His power meter is filled up by other landed punches. It even gets filled when he gets hit by other attacks. The meter fills to a KO uppercut, a one-hit kill punch. Transforms into Giga Mac as a final smash. Wireframe Mac is an alternate costume. Punches called Straight Lunge, Joly Haymaker, Rising Uppercut, Slip Counter
 - Villager moves include Pocket, Lloid Rocket, Balloon Trip, Timber and Dream Home

- Mega Man's final smash brings in multiple version of Mega Man over the ages to combine for a mega blast. Moves include Charge Shot, Spark Shock, Flame Blast, Flame Sword, Slash Claw, Air Shooter, Hard Knuckle, Super Arm, Metal Blade, Crash Bomber, Leaf Shield, Rush Coil.
 - Wii Fit Trainer can use the sun salutation and store it up. She can also use deep breathing to strengthen. Both male/female versions are available and both are the same power level.

- custom move sets allowed online with friends or local, but not online with strangers

Smash Run is a 3DS-only mode in Smash Bros. 3DS. It's a 4-player battle game where you search a dungeon for power-ups. Has a time limit of 5 minutes. Each type of power-up has its on effects and give new strengths. After the 5 minutes are up, a battle takes place between the 4 players. You can enter this mode by choosing what power-ups you want from your collection. Features enemies from all sorts of game series'. Has a random fighter option as well.
^It's like City Trial in Kirby Air Ride.

http://youtu.be/uMlC1OKo1zA
- Charizard and Greninja will also be playable characters

I'm pretty sure that was it. I didn't get done watching it until a few minutes ago.

This is a pretty successful 3DS game that has been out in Japan. Here's the video of the direct. It's only about 11 minutes and I suggest watching it to get the gist of what's going on in it.

http://youtu.be/lcmx4kC0tiU

Here's a press release about it.
Quote from:  Nintendo PR

On June 6, visit the outrageously bizarre island world of Tomodachi Life for the Nintendo 3DS system. Everyone you know, and everyone you wish you knew, should prepare to meet their Mii maker – you! – as you build a bustling fantasy population of friends, family and even celebrities, all in one wild and hilarious world.  The Tomodachi franchise already has taken Japan by storm, selling more than 5.5 million games. Its first North American title, Tomodachi Life, is poised to stake out unprecedented video game territory when it launches June 6. Nintendo announced more details today in a special Tomodachi Life-themed Nintendo Direct. To view the Nintendo Direct in its entirety, visit http://www.nintendo.com/nintendo-direct.

“Nintendo fans are familiar with Mii characters, but now they come to life in ways they never have before – with their own lives, interests and personalities,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Customization and open-ended play are two big video game trends for 2014, and Tomodachi Life delivers a fun, creative experience that makes you want to visit again and again, because there’s always something interesting going on.”

“Tomodachi” is the Japanese word for “friend.” After completely customizing all your Mii characters, from their voices and appearances right down to their personality quirks, you’ll recognize them instantly. But you can’t possibly predict what they’ll do next. For the first time ever, Mii characters behave based on the personality traits you select, playing out the drama you set in motion. A celebrity might fall in love with your math teacher. Your mom might jump on stage to belt out heavy metal songs. Or you could become famous striking poses down the runway of a fashion show wearing cute and silly outfits. Best of all, you can document these unbelievable moments for posterity and share them all with your friends via the Nintendo 3DS Image Share service.

Even your far-fetched celebrity dreams can come true in Tomodachi Life. If you have ever wanted international superstar Christina Aguilera to join you in a sing-off, or believed that she would become BFFs with your cousin or wished she would perform a song with your customized lyrics, it could happen here. The multi award-winning singer has signed on to be a part of Nintendo’s promotional campaign for the game, and her Mii character will be available at launch. Aguilera’s Mii character also will guest star in a TV commercial and in online videos that show all the exciting things that happen when celebrities mingle with Miis players know personally. The first video in the series can be viewed here: http://youtu.be/sBTHSY5GKKY/. Additional celebrities involved with Tomodachi Life will be announced over the upcoming weeks.

The plot of Tomodachi Life thickens with the addition of each Mii character. As they deliver one gripping twist and turn after another, you can reward them with in-game gifts and clothes, their favorite foods or special flourishes for their apartments. Together you can further broaden your Tomodachi Life horizons by exploring the island, solving characters’ problems and helping them with their needs.

Additional information about Tomodachi Life will be revealed in the future. For the latest updates, visit http://tomodachi.nintendo.com. The game will play on Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 2DS systems, and will be available in stores and in the Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS and on Nintendo 2DS at a suggested retail price of $34.99.

The game comes out on June 6th in North America.

Title: Mario Kart Direct (Apr. 30th)
Post by: The Krazy One on April 30, 2014, 02:25:03 pm
Randomly happened today. DG posted some info about the North American Wii U Mario Kart 8 Bundle and free game deal in his topic earlier: http://wiiunite.smfforfree3.com/index.php/topic,25504.0.html

But now it's time to share a bunch of info about Mario Kart 8, "Directly" to you!

Full Direct:

Nintendo NoA Press Release:
Quote
Revealed: Wii U Bundle, Free Game Offer, Online Features, New Items and Racers

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- One month from today, Mario Kart 8 will be driving players wild with anti-gravity racing action. To get people revved up for the Wii U game, Nintendo released a new Nintendo Direct video that announced some additional news nuggets, including a Mario Kart 8 Wii U bundle, a free downloadable game offer for Wii U owners who buy Mario Kart 8, details about online features, cool new characters and devastating new items.

"Everyone loves Mario Kart," said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. "It's a franchise that brings people together for fun at a family gathering, a frenzied race against friends or just an afternoon break at the office. The numerous new features of Mario Kart 8 make this the most ambitious version yet, and one that will have players of all skill levels racing for the checkered flag."

To view the Nintendo Direct in its entirety, visit http://www.nintendo.com/nintendo-direct. Some of the new information announced today included:

Mario Kart 8 Wii U Bundle: People who don't yet own a Wii U system will find it easy to get in on the action. On May 30 Nintendo is releasing the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Set bundle that includes a Wii U Deluxe Set system, a Mario Kart 8 game, a red Mario Wii Wheel accessory and a red Mario Wii Remote Plus controller, all at a suggested retail price of just $329.99.

Get a Free Digital Game: People who buy Mario Kart 8 and register the game with Club Nintendo before July 31 will receive a free Nintendo eShop download code for an additional Wii U game. Players can grow their Wii U digital game collections by choosing from one of these well-received Wii U games: New Super Mario Bros. U, Pikmin 3, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD or Wii Party U. That's a two-for-one deal featuring some of the all-time great Wii U games. This offer also applies to people who get the game in the Mario Kart 8 bundle or digitally in the Nintendo eShop.

Online Multiplayer: Up to 12 players can race together online in four different multiplayer modes, as long as everyone has a broadband Internet connection. Like to trash-talk your friends while you're preparing for a race? You're in luck! Mario Kart 8 lets players chat with one another in the lobby area using the Wii U GamePad microphone or text phrases as they wait for their friends to join. Players also can create public or private tournaments for which they specify the day of the week, the time and the rules. Per tradition, players will be able to race against ghost data from friends or even the top 10 worldwide racers. They can try to beat them or just pick up a few tips and tricks from studying the best. If you beat the development team's ghosts, you'll get cool stamps for use in Miiverse posts.

Mario Kart TV: As previously announced, players can watch their highlight racing reels, rewind them, play them in slow motion or upload them to Miiverse. They can watch the world's most popular highlight reels and comment on them. But players with Google accounts can also upload their reels directly to their YouTube channels.

New Items: Items are what make Mario Kart games so balanced. No matter how skilled racers are, they're just a blue Spiny Shell away from disaster. A well-timed item can also turn defeat into victory in an instant. The new Super Horn blows away all other items - literally. Sounding the Super Horn issues forth a sonic shock wave that blasts away everything in the vicinity, including other drivers, Red Shells and even blue Spiny Shells. It's a potent asset, especially for drivers trying to maintain their lead. Mario Kart 8 also introduces the Crazy Eight, a swirl of eight different items that lucky players can use one by one.

New Racers: Two new playable female characters make their debut appearances in Mario Kart 8. New heavyweight driver Pink Gold Peach glows with a golden light and makes a nice counterpart to Metal Mario. Baby Rosalina shows up for a play date with other Baby characters. As in past Mario Kart games, players can again choose to play as their Mii characters, which rounds out the field of racers to an even 30.

Mario Kart 8 is now available for pre-order at major retailers throughout North America. A deposit may be required for pre-orders. See individual retailers for details. For more information about Mario Kart 8, visit http://mariokart8.nintendo.com.

Remember that Wii U features parental controls that let adults manage the content their children can access. For more information about this and other features, visit http://www.nintendo.com/wiiu.

Here's a battle mode video:

That'll be all that I post in this edition of the topic. There were a bunch of preview videos so I'll save that for the Mario Kart discussion topic.

My take on all of this:
It's amazing. Glad Miis are back in and iffy on Baby Rosalina (even though she was joked about) and Pink Gold Peach. I at least wanted Dry Bones back since he was my man in Mario Kart Wii. I like the vehicle balancing they did so Bikes aren't OP anymore. Voice Chat in friend lobbies is a plus. Like the Youtube thing too since I might actually use it. Online seems to be looking pretty nice.

OMG!!! Smash Bros. just keeps on getting better and now that you can play as your Mii and use NFC figurines (which will also be compatible for MK8 btw) For 100 bucks you get Smash Bros., Gamecube adapter and a Gamecube controller so that's a sweet deal. Oh and just imagine playing MK8 as Link or doing a little Mario Party 10 as Kirby.

Bayonetta 2 now includes the first game and some Nintendo DLC stuff so now it's a must buy for me.

I'm sad that Xenoblade Chronicles X has been delayed to 2015, but it's better that they make sure it's an amazing game.

The new Nintendo IP Splatoon looks extremely fun and it sucks that we must wait until 2015  :'(

Mario Maker also looks quite fun as well as that new Toad game which I played and liked in Super Mario 3D World. Now we have unlimited Mario levels to play forever.

The new Zelda looks actually pretty damn good and the fact that it's open world and you can do any dungeon in any order like the 3DS game is awesome.

A new Star Fox game on the way is also nice and it looks like 2015 is looking very bright for the Wii U first party wise.

All in all I enjoyed what's heading our way for the Wii U and 3DS, but I'm also getting a PS4 now that GTA 5 has been confirmed.

Title: Smash Bros. Roundtable (News)
Post by: The Krazy One on June 10, 2014, 09:23:19 pm
The Roundtable is going on now so I'll keep updating this topic as news appears. It isn't streamed. There are live blogs that I'm looking at.

- Pac-Man revealed for the roster. He has the ability to turn into 8-bit Pac-Man as well. He can throw fruit and eat pellets. Pac-Man also has a ghost attack and can utilize a fire hydrant. He will follow the dots he tosses out.
- Game and Watch was at the end of the Pac-Man trailer.
- an arcade-style arena on the 3DS was shown for the reveal
- Sakurai joked that Heihachi from Tekken is popular, but didn't say he was on the roster

- each character has 12 special variations
- You can select amongst 3 moves for each special attack slot. Mario has a fireball, a fast fireball, and a fire orb. not usable in For Glory
- Characters can equip items that increase attack, defense and speed, but there's an overall balance to the adjustments. More skills in one area may worse your character in another.
- Each of Mii Fighter's forms have own unique specials. Can also change mii's clothing like adding hats.
- Mii Fighters cannot be used in With Anyone mode online. They can be used With Friends.

- Palutena is different from other characters and have new and unique special attacks
- you can carry customized characters through Wii U and 3DS
- Smash Run items can be transferred to the Wii U game
- FP stands for Figure Player. Users do not control them. You'll scan the figures in on the character select screen and it'll appear as an FP. They can level up to 50 and will learn how you play. They can also use items. You can also use an FP as a tag-team player.
- Sakurai says you don't have to collect every single character. Quite a few characters will get figurines, though.

- in Smash Run, pick powers you obtain with the touch screen. 5 minute time limit and random fields are created. You can stumble upon a jet pack item. Bottom screen displays map of whole arena
- Warp lets you jump to a different area of the map in smash run.

Answers from Q&A:
- Sakurai cites need for debugging as the reason the two games aren't releasing at the same time. The debug team is large and cannot handle both games in parallel, and they want to give both games their full concentration

- character transformations were removed to focus on single characters more deeply

- Sakurai is not involved in tourney planning. He was impressed with the enthusiasm for this game at today's tourney. He wants to support the scene by making more games like these.

- Sakurai says it is hard to balance the game. Sakurai basically did all the balancing himself with Melee. Brawl had a 4 person team give grades to the power of characters. New one has 12 person team.

- Sakurai was responsible for the changes from N64 to Melee. He had to use a broader grading system with help from staff when working on Brawl. The process became tricky due to biases in the graders' playing style. For the new games they have 12 graders, but there could still be balance anomalies.

- Sakurai says its important to make a game that all people can enjoy, instead of just focusing on one group of players.

- Sakurai considers smash a party game.

- Sakurai loves making menus and makes sure the important items on a menu are very big.

- All of the characters to consider were on the internal roster from the beginning of development. They decided on Greninja long before X/Y came out

- Sakurai believe he gave players too much choice in Brawl online. The team is still working to make sure online play works correctly this time around.

- Sakurai is returning to Japan tomorrow

And the roundtable is over.

Title: 50 things in Smash for Wii U
Post by: The Krazy One on October 23, 2014, 05:52:49 pm
Here is the full video:
http://youtu.be/j0BBGzfw0pQ

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Info from the video:
- starting roster has more characters unlocked than the 3DS version
- there will still be characters to be unlocked, but they aren't new
- 8-player battles (not online though)
- 8-player battles take place on special stages, some of which being huge - this includes Big Battlefield

- The Great Cave Offensive is another giant stage based on the Kirby level
- this stage has special danger zones that can kill you instantly, as well as treasure chests and hidden goodies

- stage based on Donkey Kong Country Returns, Jungle Hijinx. Battles can take place on two different planes.
- more stages in Wii U version of the game

- Miiverse stage as well that shows Miiverse posts based on each fighter playing (will come later)
- Pitt and Palutena will discuss other fighters when you go to do a taunt (on the Palutena's Temple stage ala Snake's codec conversations)

- Gaur Plains is included, with an appearance by Metal Face (as a stage hazard/boss)

- Ridley isn't playable, but can join a character's side when you attack him on a specific stage
- he can transform into Meta-Ridley as well. KO him to get a point.
^He's a stage hazard/boss on Pyrosphere

- coin and stamina battles return
- special smash lets you change the rules to your liking, including item drop rate
- My Music section included as well
- use and change the basic menu music
- Wii U version has a lot more music

- collect in-game CDs to unlock new tunes
- you can also get songs for completing challenges

- Classic Mode progresses you based on skill, instead of having multiple paths. There are also random events. This mode is 2-player. Rewarded with a short player movie when you complete this mode.
- All-Star mode starts with newest characters and goes to old. This is two-player as well.
- Event mode has set themed battles with various paths. There are also two-player event battles.

- Smash Tour plays as a board game where you spin a wheel to move around a map. 4-player. Move around Miis and collect items. Collect fighters to use in battle as well. If you land on the same spot as another Mii, all players have to face off. Defeat someone to steal a fighter from their lineup. Power-up your fighters with items. Items are important on the game map and battles. Fighters in the last battle are enhanced with the power-ups you collected. Stock battle ends the game, but the stock is made with the fighters you collected.

- Target Blast has a bigger, more powerful second bomb. It's also heavier. There are 3 types of stages. This effects your global smash power.
- 4-player target blast where each player takes turns, multi-man is 4-player and home run contest is 2 or 4 player as well

- Special Order has master and crazy hand giving you special challenges. Master orders gives rewards based on the difficulty level. Tickets are used separately and can only be used once. This was the best live-event Nintendo has ever done. Better than any live event I've seen streamed, actually.

Yes I know it wasn't technically live.

Now where can I find a cheap Wii U? WHich one should I get, the 8gig one? I think that's kind of low but I don't plan on storing much of anything in there. Also I want a regular controller too. I'd imagine the big game pad is cumbersome while playing.

Nintendo has some refurbished 32GB ones in their online store for $200.
https://store.nintendo.com/ng3/browse/productDetailColorSizePicker.jsp?productId=prod150200

As for controllers, if you just want the "regular" Wii U controller then you'll have to get the Wii U Pro Controller ($49.99).

Do you plan on wanting to use the Gamecube Controller for Smash or no?

Fifty dollars for a controller. See, that's how they gitcha. I can barely afford the console and game. Actually, yeah, I'd like to use the GC controller. DO they still sell some for cheap because I don't think I have any left.

Man I love flicking the c-stick up suddenly and high kicking everyone off the stage with fox

Every official controller usually adds up to $50. Since they're doing the Gamecube Controller adapter thing ($19.99), which you'll need to use that controller for Smash, they're releasing Smash branded Gamecube Controllers. I heard the controllers might be $25 but I'm not completely sure. Just checked Gamestop's site, they're $29.99. I'll list some stuff below.

Refurbished Wii U- $200
Wii U Pro Controller- $49.99
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U- $59.99
Smash Bros. Gamecube Controller- $29.99
Gamecube Controller Adapter- $19.99
Super Smash Bros. Bundle (Game, GCN Controller & Adapter)- $99.99

So I guess use those prices to gauge your decision. There are probably places online or thrift/game stores that still carry GCN Controllers, so there's that.
