Title: Steam Winter Sale Post by: Turboweasle on December 20, 2012, 10:54:13 am Rumored to start at 10 AM PST, 1 PM EST.
What do you guys hope goes on sale? I'm looking at Garry's Mod this time. Also, recommend some games that are worth buying if they go on sale. Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: Laughing Turd on December 20, 2012, 04:32:42 pm im actually hoping for skyrim.
maybe arma 2 and day z mod if my pc can handle it. Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: Turboweasle on December 20, 2012, 05:15:11 pm The DayZ standalone has been pushed back. The dude who's making it has kind of burned out recently because of the pressure/the whole WarZ ripoff and the fiasco that followed that. That said, I'd wait for the standalone version. The current mod for Arma II is a bit buggy, and it'd be cheaper to get it later.
Skyrim's on sale for 33% off right now, but might go lower later. Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: Tiger on December 20, 2012, 09:48:15 pm Isn't Garry's Mod usually only $5.00 anyway? I had a friend purchase it for me so I'm not certain, but thought it was quite cheap.
Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: Zero254 on December 20, 2012, 10:51:43 pm I'm taking game challenges for me to buy peeps 5 buck games.

I had a friend purchase it for me so I'm not certain, but thought it was quite cheap. It's $10 normally, but I just checked and it's down to $4.99 thanks to the Valve bundle deal. Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: June on December 21, 2012, 08:43:08 pm Skyrim is the only thing I would go for. How can I tell if my laptop will work?
Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: Turboweasle on December 22, 2012, 12:03:54 am Steam has the game's system requirements listed at the bottom of this page:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/72850/ (http://store.steampowered.com/app/72850/) If you click on Start, type in "Run" and hit enter, and then enter "dxdiag" into the box that comes up, you can see most of your system specifications. If you tell me your RAM, your processor, and your graphics card I might be able to tell if you can run it. Granted, Skyrim is one of those games that's designed to play on just about anything, just not at maximum settings, so it's likely you can play it on low or medium if your laptop was purchased in the past year or so. Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: June on December 22, 2012, 10:08:13 am Ok, cool. I'll take a look! Thanks, Turbo. ;)
Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: Squire Grooktook on December 22, 2012, 02:16:24 pm Here's some games I Recommend. Keep in mind that all these games are objectively good and if you don't like them you are a weak unmanly coward and you should cry into your frilly pink tutu.
Ys: Orgin. Good top down action rpg. Has hack and slash, exploration, platforming, and good boss fights. Gundenomium Collection. 3 extremely good bullet hell manic shooters. One of them is extremely innovative and combines some strategy elements with the genre, the other has online co-op. They also have a very cutesy, character based style rather then generic space ships flying around. Bunch of Heroes. Really fun top down arena shooter type game to play with friends. Cladun X2. Top down retro style action rpg with great combat, a randomized roguelike style mode, and an absurd amount of customization that lets you edit your character pixel by pixel. Unreal Tournament 2k4. Real man fps for real men. **** yo ****ty ass modern warfare bull****, lemme go rocket jump up a space station while dodging plasma balls and chainsaws. Sanctum. Tower defense fps hybrid. Great strategy and very fun to play. ESPECIALLY with friends in co op mode. Awesomenauts. MOBA platformer shooter hybrid. Good stuff. They Bleed Pixels. Lovecraft themed action platformer. Very fun with good level design and atmosphere. I very much recommend. Jamestown. Amazingly quirky and well designed bullet hell shooter themed on american history (except on mars). Serious Sam. See Unreal 2k4 above. Except with absolutely amazing chaotic co-op. Again, highly recommended. Dungeon Defenders. 3d action rpg strategy tower defense hack and slash hybrid. Lots of fun to play alone or with friends. Very in depth rpg elements. Good action. Good stuff. Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: Squire Grooktook on December 23, 2012, 01:19:00 am It looks painful and permanently damaging if you gaze directly into it.
Next question. Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: the KR3AT3R on December 23, 2012, 06:10:26 am Is your skin color white, pale, and pastey?
Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: Squire Grooktook on December 23, 2012, 04:12:10 pm No, it is somewhat pinkish. I was going to say "pink like Kirby mother****er", but that is both an exageration and hardly desirable.
Now I have a question for you. Between the time when she conceived, and spat you out, was your mother by any chance a drunken, meth addicted prostitute? Just curious. Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: the KR3AT3R on December 23, 2012, 07:26:48 pm Nah, she was into PCP.
Next question. Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: Squire Grooktook on December 23, 2012, 08:06:37 pm Were your progenitors related? Or possibly...how do I put this gently...sub-human? You know like 30% homo sapien, 70% duck, newt, or goat?
Were they invertebrates? Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: the KR3AT3R on December 23, 2012, 08:54:06 pm I'm hybrid - part bear/part lizard...
You can call me blizard. Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: Squire Grooktook on December 23, 2012, 09:02:51 pm That's actually pretty cool.
You don't actually work for the company Blizzard though right? Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: the KR3AT3R on December 23, 2012, 09:17:15 pm No. I tried to apply for the spokesperson position but they said something popped up in the background check. >:(
Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: Squire Grooktook on December 23, 2012, 10:28:26 pm lol
Well it's a good thing you don't, or I'd have to blame all the balancing and lore issues in Starcraft 2 on you. Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: TH3 NAZ1 on January 14, 2013, 03:30:48 am Grook, do you know what the sun looks like? :-\ Coming from the guy with almost 28,000 posts, I don't think you know either. :-\Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: ĪSaucelotĪ on January 21, 2013, 04:01:13 pm Is this a real flame, I enjoy reading it, good posts on both sides lol.
Anywho, anyone else play Faster than Light? Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: Squire Grooktook on January 21, 2013, 04:02:47 pm I wanted to get it, but I was hitting my money limit and decided to go with some action games instead (turned out to be a good choice).
I hear it's good. Some of my friends really like it. I'll pick it up later when I have the chance. I could ask my friends who have it how they like it etc if you want more knowledge of it. Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: ĪSaucelotĪ on January 21, 2013, 04:27:09 pm I bought it a few days ago,i heard some good things about it. I was at the point where i wanted to play something slower paced for a bit, I think it'll be a good choice, haven't got to the nitty gritty in it yet though, just barely scratched the surface and its pretty addicting. I know once i lose my first ship I'm gonna cry though haha
Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: Squire Grooktook on January 21, 2013, 04:44:46 pm Yeah. I'm intrigued by the idea of a space ship management roguelike. I always wanted to get into the roguelike genre, but I always found the classic ascii style games like Nethack and ADOM to be incredibly daunting to get into.
Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: ĪSaucelotĪ on January 21, 2013, 04:57:48 pm I never really got into the roguelike genre, sadly haven't done much old school dungeon crawling at all. Probably something I should do before I die.
Really though, after I play through FTL, I think I'm going to go old school and get into some old dungeon crawlers. I have no idea where to start though, nor whether I want to go 8-bit or something newer or what. Anything you've played along these lines you'd consider a must play at some point? Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: Squire Grooktook on January 21, 2013, 05:05:37 pm Try Etrian Odyssey on Nintendo Ds. Very fun dungeon crawlers with some great atmosphere. Also fantastic music by Yuzo Koshiro (Streets of Rage, Revenge of Shinobi, Actraiser, etc.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1Nw2mTU-PQ One of the boss battle themes from the third game. You might also want to try Cthulhu Saves The World and it's predecessor Breath of Death on Steam. Both are EXTREMELY cheap (like 1 dollar or something). *edit* Also on Nintendo Ds there's Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey. Science Fiction meets Dantes Inferno meets first person dungeon crawl. You can talk to monsters and recruit them to your party and ****. Has a great, orchestral soundtrack. A warning though: The story gets DARK. Seriously. I'm talking human disembowelment before things even start to get dark. Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: Squire Grooktook on January 21, 2013, 05:31:42 pm SORRY FOR THE DOUBLE POST but this is important.
Persona 3 and 4. You should definitely try those before anything else I mentioned. They are some of the best games ever. 4 might be better for a newcomer to the series, but either one is fine. Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: ĪSaucelotĪ on January 21, 2013, 05:46:12 pm I used to really be intrigued by the persona games, never got around to playing them, i vaguely know what the storyline is about. I was going to buy persona 3 when it came out on ps2 in NTSC , then persona 3 FES, and didn't get either. The newest persona arena is just a fighter right?
I have a playstation 2 that works at my parents house, I'd rather just get something off of steam i can play on my PC though, I might checkout those ones you mentioned, especially if they're that cheap. Any shin megami tensei games on PC? Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: Freez on January 21, 2013, 05:51:36 pm Hey oce! also i got awsomenaughts off the sale, anyone who has it can add my steam: Garyac

The Persona games run wonderfully on the systems backwords compatibility. And yeah, Persona 4 Arena is just a fighting game, not really my taste for a fighter either.I have a playstation 2 that works at my parents house, I'd rather just get something off of steam i can play on my PC though, I might checkout those ones you mentioned, especially if they're that cheap. Any shin megami tensei games on PC? As for other SMT games on PC, there aren't many official ports as far as I'm aware, however you could play the original snes games via emulation, since there''s a fan made english patch for the roms. They are pretty old fashioned and grindy though, so they might be difficult to get into. Technically you could even play the ps2 games via a ps2 emulator, but I'v never tried setting up emulation for anything above n64 level technology. Hey oce! also i got awsomenaughts off the sale, anyone who has it can add my steam: Garyac I have it too. I'll send you a friend invite if you want.Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: ĪSaucelotĪ on January 21, 2013, 07:38:47 pm Freez there you are, let me check what my steam ID is, only games I have on it are Dishonored and FTL though. Wth you been up too man, did falink get ahold of u
Yeah i do have a ps3, I havent tried to run any ps2 games on it, just picked it up a couple months ago I think its the 250 gig so that'll work right?I'm definitly down for an old school grind though. Btw I do have both snes, n64, and ps2 emulators on my laptop, never used the ps2 one its kind of complicated you have to have a homebrewed ps2 and download the BIOS file from your Ps2. Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: Squire Grooktook on January 21, 2013, 07:50:05 pm Yeah, you should try ps3. Unless it's a slim, I believe those no longer have the backwards compatibility or emulation of the previous ps3 models. But otherwise you should be able to run the discs, as well as save data and whatnot. Some ps2 games even run better on ps3.
Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: Freez on January 21, 2013, 11:48:38 pm yeah man falink gotta hold of me, i've been pretty busy with school, probably a year and a half to two years away from my B.S. in Civil Engineering dunno wat im gonna do afterwards though, probably masters or somethin. and I've just beaten dishonored on ps3, its fun as hell. also I was checking out FTL but i didn't know what it was about. You should check out awsomenaughts, its a fun game
Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: ĪSaucelotĪ on January 22, 2013, 06:12:21 pm Yeah i know what its about, played it on XBL never bought it though. I have a decent collection of co-op game for 360, but mostly I just prefer the slit-screen ones for co-op so I can play minecraft with my gf and shoot ppl split-screen w/ my buddies.
My new PSN is SoLOcelotZ, freez, I just dont know how often I'll play it. Steam ID is Ocelot_Z Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: ĪSaucelotĪ on January 23, 2013, 02:24:45 pm Whats your steam ID squire? Lol nvm just read your profile. Yeah FTL is **** haha its fun though, I definitly recommend checking it out for only $9.99, its a different experience. Now that I'm on vacation I'm actually going to have time to play it. I'll add you on steam too man.
I added you on steam also freez. Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: Squire Grooktook on January 23, 2013, 03:46:23 pm Yeah, I was gonna send you an invite but I forgot lol
Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: ĪSaucelotĪ on January 25, 2013, 12:42:40 am I invited you. Got all the ships in FTL. I was going hard at that game for a day or two.
**Edit. Yeah I got Strike Suit Zero, I'll let you know what I think of it. Title: Re: Steam Winter Sale Post by: ĪSaucelotĪ on January 27, 2013, 10:19:31 pm Strike Suit is really fun, but i dont think I would recommend it unless your a space combat sim guy. The Strike suit thing is cool, but doesn't work nearly as well as you would think. The main problem is most of the missions are escort, and you just want to fly around and shoot everything. The upgrades are extremely hard to get, because say its an escort mission, in order to unlock the upgrade you have to destroy all the enemy frigates, but if you take the time to do that you usually end up letting the ship your escorting get destroyed. And zeroing in on a turret gun on a big ship is difficult because you can't backwords thrust unless your in Optimus Prime mode. And if you run into a ship you lose all your shields and armor and they don't. Hopefully there will be some sick mods for it. |
