Title: Wired vs Wireless (Battlefield)
Post by: Laughing Turd on March 16, 2013, 11:52:16 pm
So I'm just wondering how much better the wired experience is to the wireless. I unfortunately can't get wired up because I'm several rooms away from my router. I have to play wireless.

What kind of improvement would I see if I wire up? Faster loading times? Will I see enemies a lot sooner? I think it's more noticable on Battlefield 3 since it uses dedicated servers instead of relying on someone elses connection like CoD. I think on Cod it's not as important since you have a lot of lag compensation.

Can anyone let me know what kind of performance difference you've seen first hand, maybe test it out a little bit? I'm pretty curious.

I'm always wired... and you've seen how I play. :P

I could only imagine if I were wifi connected. I'd never get a kill.

So did you get enough play time in to tell a difference?

Ah June, you'd be a lot better if you put in the time. 8)

Yeah Crzy, I actually noticed quite instantly. Everything seemed a lot snappier. Maps loaded in more quilckly, the server lobby was faster, I even felt that I got a little bit of an edge vs other players. It felt like I was seeing then a little bit faster than on when I'm wireless. I also think I might have been hitting more shots but that might be me trying to be a bit too optimistic. I know BF3 has client side hit detection so odds probably are that the bullets were hitting all the same as with wireless.

Overall I have to say that wiring up the ps3 is much better than not.

I just find it so weird that you and I, and Lakkus who I asked later, have similar speeds and yet we're all getting much less than top speed. Oh well.

I don't wanna hear it.

Lol. I'll play more when you get a wired connection.  >:D

Gotta be wired for the best experience.

I bought a 20 foot ethernet cord and drilled holes in my floor to get a cord hook into my PS3.

Wireless causes lag and time delays. In BF3 you need that first jump and an Ethernet cord will help you major.

I thought even if you had a really long Ethernet cord that would still make you lag?  'Tis what I heard.

With my new place my PS3 is really close to my Router.  I will have to try this!

Not sure I think the fact you are wired is even better than wireless?

Not too sure.

I dont notice any lag or any of that and my ethernet cord is 20 feet like i mentioned above.

It use to be 2 feet away from my router and tbh i never noticed any difference.
