Yeah you called it. Which means I'll blame you for it being a reality. >:( Still, getting two free games per month for less than $5 had me interested. I won't mind paying for PS+ for online, which I think is the key difference between Sony and Microsoft for this generation: Sony wants to entice me to buy its additional services, whereas Microsoft considers it a given that I'd pay for online. Title: Re: Sony's E3 Conference Streams/Updates/Details Post by: Keihan on June 11, 2013, 10:23:03 am I don't mind paying for the PS+. Thing that doesn't make much sense is... if it's mandatory for PS+, then everyone is getting game discounts/free games. EASY
Title: Re: Sony's E3 Conference Streams/Updates/Details Post by: Laughing Turd on June 11, 2013, 10:36:38 am I agree that it's still a really good deal but it's about the principle of the thing for me. One of the reasons I went PS3 instead of Xbox was because I thought it was dumb to pay for your internet twice. Sony had free online gaming and then after that, all I had to do was pay for other services like Netflix. Now I'm going to have to pay for both.
I don't want to sound like a cheap ass, because I'm not. I just want to know that I'm not going to be paying for PS3 era online quality. If I'm going to pay a cent to use online, it better be much improved over many areas, hopefully even a full move to dedicated servers especially since they have Gaikai now. The added value to PS+ is great and I don't mind paying for any of that. I'm glad to do it because it's a good value and because I know that running servers is expensive and Sony has to make money. But the bottom line is that the main thing you're paying for is for online gaming with those servers and all the other stuff really is just extra. I want good value from that online service specifically. I sure hope they improve the network and strengthen it's quality because otherwise it'd just be better sticking with a PC and paying for your internet once. Title: Re: Sony's E3 Conference Streams/Updates/Details Post by: Turboweasle on June 11, 2013, 10:38:59 am Now I'm going to have to pay for both. From what I'm reading, Netflix isn't behind the paywall. You can access it without PS+. Title: Re: Sony's E3 Conference Streams/Updates/Details Post by: DoubleGunz on June 11, 2013, 10:48:06 am The Vita runs very well, so I have no doubt the PS4 will. I see almost nothing wrong with the PS3's online capabilities, but the Vita's is an improvement, so PS4 will be too.
Title: Re: Sony's E3 Conference Streams/Updates/Details Post by: Laughing Turd on June 11, 2013, 10:48:11 am Oh, well that good news. I still want a better network though. One example would be download speeds. I have a pretty good d/l speed but whenever I try to download something from PSN, it never maxes out. I get stuck with like 5 mb/s. Same thing when I play online. I understand that they cap your speed but for some reason my PS3 never caps out even though my service far exceeds the limit. I've talked to a couple of the guys and they confirm the same thing, even when plugged in.
Stuff like that basically is what I'm talking about. If I'm going to be paying to use their online network, I want it to be a lot better. Title: Re: Sony's E3 Conference Streams/Updates/Details Post by: Termin8or on June 11, 2013, 10:50:22 am So, you guys are saying that I'm going to have to pay for PS+ for a game that uses peer to peer for online play (no servers)? If that's the case the I have to agree with LT that paying for PS+ is like a tax for owning a PS4. The cost of peer to peer online play is included in the price of the games we buy and in the case of MoH, an online server game, the price of using servers was included in the game price. I know we will be able to use our PS4 friends list with each game we have and that's added value that Sony brings, but that's a simple API in my opinion. The games could offer that same feature in game....it would just be a unique list for each game.
I have no problem paying for PS+ either, but it certainly seems like price stacking to me. The game prices should come down to compensate for it :-\ Title: Re: Sony's E3 Conference Streams/Updates/Details Post by: Turboweasle on June 11, 2013, 10:54:50 am Stuff like that basically is what I'm talking about. If I'm going to be paying to use their online network, I want it to be a lot better. I agree wholeheartedly, and I wouldn't expect anything less. I have no problem paying for PS+ either, but it certainly seems like price stacking to me. The game prices should come down to compensate for it :-\ This should be the case, but IIRC publishers fix game costs at $60 to prevent a price war, and to make sure people decide which games to buy based on quality instead of price. Which is ridiculous, but that's what I've heard. And yeah, I'm not terribly happy about having to subscribe to PS+, but Sony's made it as painless as they probably could, so I'm not terribly upset about it either. Title: Re: Sony's E3 Conference Streams/Updates/Details Post by: Laughing Turd on June 11, 2013, 10:56:19 am That's the thing, some games are on dedicated servers and some are purely P2P. Easiest examples are Battlefield and CoD. If games like CoD which use those p2p systems move to fully dedicated servers, I'm all for that. I think it'll be a great deal then because dedicated servers are so much better for online gaming. Sure they cost money but I'd be happy to pay to use them.
Otherwise it's exactly the same thing as Xbox Live which was total male cattle dung to me. I couldn't justify it then, how could I justify it now? As for the price thing, I think the games are staying at $60 for AAA games. THing is, with inflation games are supposed to be $70 now. EA "predicted" games will cost that much next gen which basically their way of saying that's what they'll charge. Title: Re: Sony's E3 Conference Streams/Updates/Details Post by: DoubleGunz on June 11, 2013, 11:00:30 am Guys, Drive Club is free. When they said that I was so happy. I don't know how they're managing to do that, because it's clearly an online-driven (get it) game. You have to pay for PS+ to play its online, but if you have PS+ it's free anyways. :P
That's amazing news. I was sure I was going to buy it anyways, and it makes PS+ more than worth it (it already is) for the first year. Title: Re: Sony's E3 Conference Streams/Updates/Details Post by: Laughing Turd on June 11, 2013, 11:05:20 am Okay but can you download it and still play single player if you stop paying for PS+? Or is it like now where you lose any free games after your PS+ expires? If that's the case it's not really a free game as much as it is a long rental.
Title: Re: Sony's E3 Conference Streams/Updates/Details Post by: DoubleGunz on June 11, 2013, 11:09:22 am I really don't like that argument, cause there's never been a good reason to stop having PS+. It's consistently great, and there's no reason to not have it. There will be even more incentive next gen, clearly, with it being required for online. I see no issues there. Just don't let it expire. No big deal.
Edit: I guess the problem comes up when talking to people that like to have a game collection. That's not me, I tend to get rid of my games when I'm done with them anyways. So I see why it would be annoying there, I guess. But for the most part the games that become free are games that are a bit old and you wouldn't have bought anyways, or just didn't have the money for at the time. In that case, it's always nice to have a supply of games coming your way at all times. Title: Re: Sony's E3 Conference Streams/Updates/Details Post by: Termin8or on June 11, 2013, 11:31:36 am I think everyone is willing to pay for PS+ and sees value in PS+.....that's not the issue. It's frustrating to pay for PS+ to play a game that should have included all of the costs in the game. You can't argue that. They are essentially saying that yesterday you could buy a game with online play and that cost was included in the game, but tomorrow, you pay the same price for the game (or even an increased price) and you have to pay extra to play online. It's simple math. They downplay it by saying there is additional value in PS+, but the bottom line is that you can't achieve the full value of the game you've purchased without paying for PS+.
Title: Re: Sony's E3 Conference Streams/Updates/Details Post by: the KR3AT3R on June 11, 2013, 01:14:42 pm ^ this. Its like buying a "bundle" of phone, internet, and cable for a "cheaper" price, but all I really wanted was a decent rate for internet. :-\
Title: Re: Sony's E3 Conference Streams/Updates/Details Post by: Keihan on June 12, 2013, 09:00:19 am PS4 is still the best option for console gaming next gen (current? since Wii U is out). If everyone needs PS+ to play online, and PS+ offers free games/discounts, that's still pretty insane. $50 for a year and in that year (regardless of a "LONG RENTAL"), they usually deliver on some more than decent items.
With PS+, the past year I've gotten (to name a few) -Infamous 2 -Uncharted 3 (though I bought it first) -Deus Ex: Human Revolution -Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One -Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition And many others that I can't remember off the top of my head for "FREE" Also got a few nifty discounts Title: Re: Sony's E3 Conference Streams/Updates/Details Post by: Laughing Turd on June 12, 2013, 09:24:37 am PS4 is still the best option for console gaming next gen (current? since Wii U is out). Sony have said that it wouldn't make sense to charge for + and then have another developer fee on top of that, so they charge for online now at a platform level so devs can't use that tactic. I'm fine with that because it's either $50 a year or buy several games and pay $10-15 for each just to play online. Title: Re: Sony's E3 Conference Streams/Updates/Details Post by: DoubleGunz on June 12, 2013, 09:26:41 am O0
Title: Re: Sony's E3 Conference Streams/Updates/Details Post by: Laughing Turd on June 12, 2013, 09:37:07 am Plus they actually came out and honestly said that expense played a large roll. Like we all know, servers cost a lot of money to upkeep. I think for me, I wanted to hear them say that instead of detracting attention from it by offering a bunch of things.
If they want the money because they need it and it's fair to ask for it, I'll pay them happily. I just wanted them to say it for some reason. Title: Re: Sony's E3 Conference Streams/Updates/Details Post by: Ps358 on June 12, 2013, 10:40:31 am I hope with everyone having to pay for PS+, the servers will be better substantially than PS3.
Title: Re: Sony's E3 Conference Streams/Updates/Details Post by: DoubleGunz on June 12, 2013, 11:07:42 am That's always been a confusing complaint to me, I almost never have any issues. The only problem is the XMB being a bit laggy if you open it in some games (which is completely fixed on the Vita).
Title: Re: Sony's E3 Conference Streams/Updates/Details Post by: Keihan on June 12, 2013, 11:39:47 am That's always been a confusing complaint to me, I almost never have any issues. The only problem is the XMB being a bit laggy if you open it in some games (which is completely fixed on the Vita). This. The laggy XMB is the only issue. I had an XBOX 360 for a few years.... XBOX Live's connection isn't any better than PSN, trust me. Title: Re: Sony's E3 Conference Streams/Updates/Details Post by: DoubleGunz on June 12, 2013, 12:35:33 pm Oh, and the trophy syncing is a little annoying. It's been improved lately, though. It was bad for like a year or so but now it's not horrible. Still needs improvement. Guess what though, it's perfect on the Vita. O0 There's also the concern of game installs taking forever. That's not necessary on PS4. I'm confident they've listened and fixed just about every issue. I don't see any other outstanding ones. |
