Title: Anyone else love the XMB Post by: Laughing Turd on July 21, 2013, 08:25:16 pm The PS3 user interface that is. I thought it's very minimalist and easy to use. It's all there for you in a simple package and doesn't have a lot of clutter. I'm actually rather disappointed that the PS4 isn't going with something similar.
Any other fans? If you're not a fan you must be some kind of hipster. Title: Re: Anyone else love the XMB Post by: Red Fatality on July 21, 2013, 10:08:55 pm its better then the xboxs i think they had kechua ass looking menus. one thing though better with xbox is there dashboard was way faster on ps3 it takes forever to pull up messages and having to repond it even freezes sometimes which is annoying. xbox it seems instant.
Title: Re: Anyone else love the XMB Post by: Autumn1194 on July 21, 2013, 10:12:21 pm ps3 one is the best.. The xbox looks like a cluster fluck :-\ The wii is pretty simple also.
Title: Re: Anyone else love the XMB Post by: Turboweasle on July 21, 2013, 11:46:04 pm Only complaint I have is that the XMB is slow as molasses in January. Opening it up in some games runs the risk of freezing the system. I've heard the PSP doesn't have this problem, and I'd imagine with the resources dedicated to the OS of the PS4 the PS4 won't have this problem.
Title: Re: Anyone else love the XMB Post by: JabbaScrub on July 22, 2013, 03:15:03 am XMB isn't the most intuitive menu (as a 12yo. I couldn't figure out how to play games on Walmart's PS3), but it's very logical. Everything fits into where you would expect it to be, and most things don't require you to go through several menus to get what you want.
To play Skyrim on 360 you would have to go to 'Games', scroll through the laggy menu and select it. For XMB the directories are very similar, but it flows. You don't jump from menu to menu, you just scroll around one neatly packaged one. But yeah, it gets really bogged down when you're doing anything other than sitting at the menu. Title: Re: Anyone else love the XMB Post by: Laughing Turd on July 23, 2013, 09:13:36 am Yeah the Wii was probably the easiest to use out of all three current gen systems. But I'd agree that the XMB was really good and straight forward but kind of slow because of limited hardware. Like Jabber said though, it's very logical. I never understood why Xbros thought it was so difficult. I guess I shouldn't judge them too much if they do need big colorful pictures and avatars all over to understand anything. :P
Again, sad that the PS4 is going to use a similar menu system. Title: Re: Anyone else love the XMB Post by: Turboweasle on July 24, 2013, 08:15:11 pm Oh it's going to be like the 360 dash? That's unfortunate.
Title: Re: Anyone else love the XMB Post by: June on July 24, 2013, 08:19:51 pm I love the PS3 menu. I think it just makes sense. I remember when I first got PS3 my TV was crap... I could barely make out what anything said, haha. So, in short, it was great because even in my near-blind state, I still managed to work it because of its simplicity.

Oh yeah, you done reminded me about that now...how you thought it looked so amazing but were missing that key component.... Title: Re: Anyone else love the XMB Post by: Turboweasle on July 25, 2013, 06:08:29 pm Was a physical part missing or something?
Title: Re: Anyone else love the XMB Post by: Laughing Turd on July 25, 2013, 07:00:07 pm I probably should have PM'd her about it. Yeah a key component was missing and I teased her about it a bit. I just remembered that she wasn't too happy about me doing that though so I'll just leave it there.
Title: Re: Anyone else love the XMB Post by: Turboweasle on July 25, 2013, 07:13:31 pm Oooooh June. That's adorable.

That's unfortunate. >$Is that a reference to the ads that are notorious on the Xbox dash? Oh I reaaaally hope they don't do this on PS4. I'm pretty fed up with ads being all over the place these days. If I'm going to be paying for PSN (which is bad in the first place) I don't want to see a single ad selling me whatever. Maybe a game ad is fine like they currently do but I don't want it taking up 2/3 of the screen. He also made fun of me when I complained that the cord to my controller was too short and it meant I had to sit on the floor and play my games. I didn't realize it was just a charging device and I could go wireless... Oooooh June. That's adorable. Haha, I'm just glad that I have it all fixed. :P Title: Re: Anyone else love the XMB Post by: Turboweasle on July 26, 2013, 11:49:06 am As long as they keep the ads on the store, I'm fine with it. In fact I'm fine with any non-intrusive advertising.

I didn't realize it was just a charging device and I could go wireless... Oh man, I can see that happening though. We were trained for so long to use wired controllers, you know? I'm guessing it's more common that I had though. Pip is another person who complained about the short wire and I've read top ten lists of improvements people want and a longer charge wire is definitely on there. I guess I just kind of knew what the deal was. I'm usually a bit more informed though. Title: Re: Anyone else love the XMB Post by: Turboweasle on July 26, 2013, 07:57:09 pm I didn't have any trouble with it either. Wasn't this the first console generation with predominately wireless controllers, though? That probably has a lot to do with the confusion.
Title: Re: Anyone else love the XMB Post by: June on July 26, 2013, 10:21:16 pm I honestly didn't even think about it. I can't remember how they were packages... if it was with the wire in it ready to go. I remember that when Joel told me that it could be pulled out I didn't believe him at first but I don't remember if it was because I didn't believe it was physically possible or something.
Title: Re: Anyone else love the XMB Post by: Mista Czee on August 18, 2013, 03:13:48 pm I like the PS3 XMB the most. I'm not a big fan of the Windows 8 look. I hate it actually. |
