Title: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Turboweasle on August 04, 2013, 07:08:29 pm So we've got a new world in Minecraft, and I've messed around with a lot of the new features, such as setting up teams. That's what this topic is about.
The "teams" are Soldiers, Civilians, Bandits, and Wanderers. Here's a breakdown of each team. Soldiers: This team is kind of the army of the main (and so far only) city. Their job is to protect civilians from Bandits and mobs. This is an active team that needs to patrol the city every night, as well as look for bandits and defend the city from raids. Soldiers cannot harm other soldiers of the same city. Soldiers from different cities can attack each other, and cities can declare war on one another. Civilians: These are your generic residents of cities/villages. They are not combat-oriented, but instead work to improve their cities/villages by supplying iron ingots to the guard as well as building shops, houses, barracks, walls, etc. Probably the most important team there is. Although they are not combat-oriented, they can defend themselves if they have the resources. Civilians cannot harm civilians. Bandits: Pretty much what you'd expect. They raid towns, villages, and cities (if they can) to supply themselves with food and weapons. If spotted approaching a city, they will be attacked on sight by the city guard. Bandits can hurt other bandits. Wanderers: The wildcard. Solitary and reclusive, you don't see these in cities very often, and although they are tolerated in cities, they are watched by the city guard very closely. Wanderers can hurt other wanderers, and call ally themselves with whichever team they wish. So that's pretty much it for teams. Now for the rules. Stealing and killing aren't prohibited (you won't get banned for it necessarily), but you will likely be killed for it, especially if you're in a city. You will be banned for griefing. Civilians and soldiers need to work together to improve their cities and to stay safe from bandits and mobs. And most importantly, the first "team" to procure the Dragon Egg will be able to declare a king among them to sit on the Blood Throne. Luckily, if the king sucks, the residents of the city where the Blood Throne resides can declare a rebellion. If the king is killed, the team that killed him may declare their own king. If you're reading this, send me a message here or on the xat saying "porcupines" to be allowed on the server. To declare a rebellion, 50% of the residents of a city must post here or message me declaring they wish to rebel, at which point I will start a "quest" using server commands to kill the current king. Updated Rules: - Bandits are the only ones that can steal from cities now (we need to incentivize people to pick Bandit) - Horses are off limits for stealing since they're so rare around most settlements Updated rules 8/24/2013: - To balance the issue of bandits stealing things, a new rule will be in effect on Monday, August 26th, that requires everyone to have an easily visible sign on their house displaying who owns the house. If you have such a sign, your house cannot be stolen from if you are not online. If you don't have such a sign by Monday, your house is free game regardless of whether or not you're online, and you will not be given anything back. - Because it gives an unfair advantage to primarily bandits, the gamerule "keepInventory" will be turned OFF on Monday. This means you will drop your items upon dying. Updated rules 8/27/2013: Quote If you think changing all your materials (Diamond, Iron, Gold, Coal, Lapis, Emeralds, Glowstone and Redstone) into blocks and placing them somewhere in your house will keep those items safe from bandits, You're wrong. They are still able to steal it! (They still may not take Redstone that is part of a Redstone circuitry, Redstone lamps, Glowstone that is owned by a city, Bookshelves and Quarts) Bandits cannot break blocks to get into someones house if there's an entrance that is already made. The nether and strongholds are now open!!!! so please do not mess with someone's nether portal. that is basically grieving. (Thanks for taking care of that, Autumn.) Sound good? Any questions, post them here. The server is on Hard difficulty, so mobs will be more of a challenge. Have fun! P.S. The Blood Throne is in the city at X: -530, Y: 64, Z: 151. Stick close to there if you wish to participate with all the teams and stuff. If you want to go out and do your own thing, you can (I'd suggest picking Wanderer in that case). EDIT: A few things about the spawn have been updated. With the addition of our newest "city" (which I'll get to in a second), I've added some variation to some of the class selections. Civilian: Civilians can now choose to live in the first city or the second. Their roles are pretty much the same. Soldier: If you pick "a soldier stationed in the wilds", you will be a soldier in the second city and will be on a different team than the soldiers in the first city (we really need names for these cities). Wanderer: If you choose the wanderer class, you'll have 3 starting places. The first is where it's always been, about a day's journey to the first city. The second is a jungle not too close to any city. The third is nearby the second city. Wanderers, you are welcomed in the second city. However, your presence in the first city will not be treated the way it has up to this point. You won't be attacked on sight, but anything you do that could be construed as aggressive/destructive will allow the city soldiers to attack you. Now, about the second city. It's a few days' worth of travel away from the first city, but it's not so far apart that residents of the two cities will never interact. Additionally, it's much more of an "outpost" kind of city than the first, meaning it has far fewer regulations on what you can build and where, but also is more vulnerable to bandits and may not be defended as well as the first. Since I've added some stuff that deals with the classes, I'm going to allow people to choose their class again. Just talk to me either on the xat or the MC chat if you'd like to change (or here, though there's less of a guarantee I'll do it soon). Any questions, feel free to ask. Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: MrGuppy on August 04, 2013, 07:49:38 pm Can you post what color's the teams are?
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Turboweasle on August 04, 2013, 07:50:40 pm Bandits = red
Civilians = blue Guards = gold Wanderers = dark green Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Oomomo953 on August 04, 2013, 08:37:00 pm 8) someone be a bandit with me.
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Autumn1194 on August 05, 2013, 12:43:09 am WANDERERS FTW
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: ElieSaysHi on August 05, 2013, 09:02:54 pm WANDERERS FTW Agreed, fellow wanderer.Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Autumn on August 05, 2013, 09:03:52 pm :P haha
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Turboweasle on August 05, 2013, 11:53:02 pm You damn mercs. >:(
Also Autumn, I put my horse in the pen with your horses. It's only temporary so I hope you don't mind. If you do mind I'll move them as soon as I get back online. Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Autumn1194 on August 07, 2013, 12:29:45 am Turbo, the server is being lame.... It made me get killed by a creeper and now when I try to log back in, it keeps dropping me out of the spawn box into the lake below it. >:(
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Autumn1194 on August 07, 2013, 12:40:09 am nevermind... it started working again. It must have been my internet.
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Turboweasle on August 07, 2013, 08:15:41 am I'm going to make it so that if you die after you've chosen a class it doesn't spawn you back up there if you die. That is a bit of a hassle.
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Autumn1194 on August 09, 2013, 01:30:48 am WHERE IS THE SERVER!?!?
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Turboweasle on August 12, 2013, 12:31:56 am Jabba, you need to get back on the server or you won't be able to build stuff when you log back on later.
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Turboweasle on August 12, 2013, 10:17:28 am Okay, the server's been updated so that you keep your inventory when you die, and mob griefing (aka creepers blowing stuff up, among other things) has been disabled, mainly due to the fact that there's now a large creeper hole in the middle of the market that someone evidently couldn't be bothered to fix. Creepers will still kill you, so don't go around thinking they can't harm you.
I'm able to change the server to hardcore (where you're banned upon death), but that takes a bit too much manual effort when it comes to unbanning someone, so for now we're just keeping it on hard difficulty and calling it a day. On that note, I'm thinking about switching us to a Bukkit server and installing some plugins. What do you guys think? Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Autumn on August 12, 2013, 11:36:38 am I still don't fully understand plugins
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Turboweasle on August 12, 2013, 11:42:48 am Anything specific that's confusing you or should I just give an overview?
Also, if you're free, I can show you some on the server in 10 minutes or so. Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Autumn on August 12, 2013, 11:44:25 am Just plugins in general... And I can be free in 20 minutes
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Turboweasle on August 12, 2013, 11:47:56 am Alright, sounds good.
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Turboweasle on August 12, 2013, 01:32:40 pm Whoever keeps killing the villagers and/or letting them out of their areas is going to be banned. That seriously needs to stop.
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: MrGuppy on August 17, 2013, 12:04:08 pm olliemon's a bandit :O
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Turboweasle on August 17, 2013, 02:44:29 pm Oh snap. That's good though, we need more class diversity.
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: JabbaScrub on August 17, 2013, 07:01:00 pm So I'm thinking about making the city Yoda and I are building into a Bandit/ Wanderer-specific city. Traps galore, difficult to access treetop homes, other stuff like that. Is it possible to make multi-person raids on a city viable? Not just a few people breaking in and sacking the place while everyone is offline, but an actual siege of the city?
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Turboweasle on August 17, 2013, 07:03:08 pm It's very viable. I'm planning on doing just that, actually, using the scoreboard system introduced in the 1.6.2 update.
Where will the city be, by the way? I want to keep the cities fairly spread out so that on area isn't too congested, and to give bandits the ability to prey on roads that link the cities. Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: JabbaScrub on August 17, 2013, 07:19:51 pm It's pretty far away. I've gone between the two three times now and still can't get there without following coordinates.
I can't check right now, but it's roughly x:-1300, z:300. Will each city have the option of using your admin powers, like the cities already made? It would also be neat for each city to have around 30 creeper eggs or something. Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Turboweasle on August 17, 2013, 07:47:22 pm It's pretty far away. It would also be neat for each city to have around 30 creeper eggs or something. No, I'm going to be the only one with admin powers for the foreseeable future. That doesn't mean cities can't have unique items and stuff. Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: JabbaScrub on August 17, 2013, 07:53:55 pm It's pretty far away. Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Turboweasle on August 17, 2013, 08:04:07 pm I doubt there's a ship warfare plugin.
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: JabbaScrub on August 17, 2013, 08:25:34 pm There's iSail, which only has 37 downloads so it would have to be tested before you add it to the main server. There are also a few normal mods.
http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1857899-162-152forge-archimedes-ships-v13-infinite-airships/ Doesn't have cannons or anything, but ships are really all I want. Are you considering adding things like NPCs such as Shop owners? I mean the Market is basically useless right now. There are other neat mods that I would like to have on the server. I don't like the idea of having any more dimensions or a ton of new items, but there are a few things that I think would enhance the experience. Just let me know if you're even open to the idea and I'll test them out tomorrow night. Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Handass on August 17, 2013, 08:53:46 pm All I know is you fagets better be ready to play in an hour. Cuz I got my TLC duties done early, so I can play for awhile tonight.

I'm not putting anything with only 37 downloads on my computer. Without going through the source code myself I can't be sure it won't mess up horribly, and I'm not going to do that. Quote Are you considering adding things like NPCs such as Shop owners? I mean the Market is basically useless right now. No, not really. And the market is mostly for show, so I wouldn't say it's useless. Quote There are other neat mods that I would like to have on the server. I don't like the idea of having any more dimensions or a ton of new items, but there are a few things that I think would enhance the experience. Just let me know if you're even open to the idea and I'll test them out tomorrow night. To be honest, I'm not really interested in modding the server at all. It's a vanilla server, and aside from some very unobtrusive plugins, I'm not really considering changing that. Plugins and mods have a way of overwhelming players. Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: JabbaScrub on August 17, 2013, 10:21:22 pm Alright, just asking. I really do want a ship though, and Archimedes' Ships has been popular for a very long time.
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Turboweasle on August 18, 2013, 01:33:46 pm First post has been updated, please read it.
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: JabbaScrub on August 18, 2013, 02:04:59 pm Is the new Wanderer Forest spawn the forest where Yoda and I are?
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Turboweasle on August 18, 2013, 02:16:13 pm There isn't a new forest spawn for wanderers. There isn't even a forest spawn for wanderers at all.
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: JabbaScrub on August 18, 2013, 02:54:41 pm I meant jungle.
Quote The second is a jungle not too close to any city. Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Turboweasle on August 18, 2013, 03:02:18 pm I don't think it is, no.
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Turboweasle on August 19, 2013, 07:07:08 pm I posted an advert about the server to reddit.com/r/mcservers, but I'm pretty sure it's been caught in the spam filter (no clue why) and it's been 2 hours since I messaged the mods about it with no reply.
So, if you guys could periodically check on this link for me, that would be swell: http://www.reddit.com/r/mcservers/comments/1kovpv/unite_semivanilla_pvp_whitelist_162_scoreboard/ (http://www.reddit.com/r/mcservers/comments/1kovpv/unite_semivanilla_pvp_whitelist_162_scoreboard/) If it has any replies then the issue has been fixed. If not, I'm going to message the mods again. Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Turboweasle on August 20, 2013, 12:37:35 am So yeah, the spam filter was the culprit. The thread is visible now (only 8 hours later than I wanted), so check on it if you can and yell at me to whitelist people who respond.
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Autumn on August 20, 2013, 09:27:57 am When did you plan on doing the minecraft forums?
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Turboweasle on August 20, 2013, 09:43:22 am I was planning on doing it as soon as the reddit post was up. So at some point in the next few hours, now.
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Autumn on August 20, 2013, 09:45:46 am Oh ok, I can't get on till 4 probably.
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Turboweasle on August 20, 2013, 09:48:53 am I might post it then anyway. I'm going to stalk the forums for a bit to see how quickly they move. I'm betting since the average age of MC players is rather low that the traffic on that site is negligible until the kiddies are out of school anyway.
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Autumn on August 20, 2013, 09:52:07 am I'd rather have kids on the sever anyway.... All the younger ones on the server right now are awesome!
The older ones are mean :/ *cough* handy and jabba *cough* Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Turboweasle on August 20, 2013, 10:01:30 am I'm just interested in making our advert visible during peak hours.

Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Turboweasle on August 20, 2013, 03:31:20 pm Well considering we're just now at the point where kids are getting out of school, I'd say that's pretty decent.
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: JabbaScrub on August 20, 2013, 03:34:40 pm I agree. Have they been on any?
If anyone has a reddit acc, please upvote the Post. It might help. Is stealing limited to the Bandit class? I think it should be, otherwise there isn't an incentive to pick Bandit. Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Turboweasle on August 20, 2013, 03:41:45 pm Yeah we can make it Bandit exclusive.
One person already got on but had to leave pretty quickly after. I'm sure the other two will get on later today. Also, here's the server listing on minecraftforums.net: http://servers.minecraftforum.net/servers/6730737 (http://servers.minecraftforum.net/servers/6730737) It's processing our server right now so it may not have the information displayed yet, but watch that for comments if you'd like (or make some, wouldn't hurt). It gets way too he-said she-said way too quickly.
I've also updated the rules. Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: JabbaScrub on August 20, 2013, 10:24:06 pm "porcupines", said no one ever.

Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Turboweasle on August 24, 2013, 01:36:16 pm Rules have been updated. Here is the addition:
Quote Updated rules 8/24/2013: - To balance the issue of bandits stealing things, a new rule will be in effect on Monday, August 26th, that requires everyone to have an easily visible sign on their house displaying who owns the house. Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: JabbaScrub on August 24, 2013, 02:32:39 pm You should add a server message on login reminding people for a while. Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Turboweasle on August 25, 2013, 06:39:55 pm Oh boy, Knightpoptarts killed my horses too. That's awesome. Wish I had known about that yesterday when I could have fixed it properly.
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: JabbaScrub on August 25, 2013, 06:41:04 pm Why? Is he a Bandit? And is that considered griefing?
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Turboweasle on August 25, 2013, 06:47:15 pm Why? Because his friend got banned yesterday for repeatedly causing drama and refusing to calm down. He also burned down Autumn's house and mine. Quote Is he a Bandit? He was. Quote And is that considered griefing? It is. Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: JabbaScrub on August 25, 2013, 06:50:09 pm Well that's neat. Are you rolling the server back?
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Turboweasle on August 25, 2013, 06:51:51 pm Just the area that was affected. But the rollback wasn't 100%, the horses are kind of glitched out. I'll have to get them back a different way which takes a whole lot longer now that I'm in my dorm, away from the system that hosts the server.
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: JabbaScrub on August 25, 2013, 06:57:44 pm Oh that's cool, I didn't know you could do that. That sucks though. :-\
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Autumn1194 on August 27, 2013, 03:07:48 am NEW UPDATE ON THE RULES AND WHAT NOT!
WHEN YOU DIE YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR STUFF NOW!!! unless you can find it again :P If you think changing all your materials (Diamond, Iron, Gold, Coal, Lapis, Emeralds, Glowstone and Redstone) into blocks and placing them somewhere in your house will keep those items safe from bandits, You're wrong. Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Autumn1194 on August 27, 2013, 03:12:06 am also, if you're new, feel free to make an account on the forum! We'd love your input about the server!
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: JabbaScrub on August 27, 2013, 08:34:12 am I have a few questions about the rules of conduct when burglarizing someone's home.
Is it okay to block the person's bed so they cannot spawn again and come at you? If they are respawning immediately and you don't have time to block the bed, can you break it? IMO, it should be permissible to block the person's bed with blocks so they cannot spawn, then break the blocks when you leave. If you don't want your bed destroyed, you shouldn't respawn until the person has left or has blocked it so that you can spawn at origin. You have the right to come back over and over but don't get upset when they break your bed. So it could be argued that the bandit is an invader and chose to come where the person will have a bed nearby. What's the verdict? Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Autumn1194 on August 27, 2013, 09:24:47 am You can block a person's bed, but you may not destroy a person's bed.
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: JabbaScrub on August 27, 2013, 09:26:13 am Even if they're respawning constantly and you don't have time to place that many blocks?
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Autumn1194 on August 27, 2013, 09:40:07 am That's something you'll have to deal with as a bandit.
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Turboweasle on August 27, 2013, 11:16:19 am Yeah, I'm not sure why that's concerning you, Jabba. If you're in the city and kill someone who has a house there, there's no reason why they shouldn't be allowed to respawn whenever they want.
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: JabbaScrub on August 27, 2013, 11:28:54 am I mean I don't have a problem with it. I just wanted to know whether it was a no-no. As a Bandit, it could be annoying that getting caught basically means failure since they keep coming back if killed. But I realize it might be more aggravating to get killed in your own home and not be able to spawn again.
So obstructing the bed until you leave is okay? Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Turboweasle on August 27, 2013, 11:30:24 am Yeah, that's fine. One block over the bed should be enough to obstruct it.
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Turboweasle on August 27, 2013, 11:32:26 am Also, first post has been updated.
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Tiger on August 29, 2013, 08:15:15 pm On that note, I'm thinking about switching us to a Bukkit server and installing some plugins. What do you guys think? I apologize for not reading the rest of the pages before the end, but if you haven't already, I highly recommend plugins. There are many that improve the MC experience without taking away from the Vanilla feel. If you have any questions about plugins, I'm admin/OP on a popular server and know nearly every command to most plugins, although it's also not hard to search on Google/YouTube. What are you guys going to do for 1.7? It includes three new biomes from what Jeb's tweeted (or so I've been told, I don't actually follow him). Wouldn't be too hard to find if you check his latest tweets. Updating to 1.7 would require a world restart D: Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: JabbaScrub on August 29, 2013, 08:27:40 pm I've been watching some 1.7 snapshots. It really looks like a big step up. I'm hoping with the speculated sea biome improvements they'll revamp boats. The current ones are terrible.
Is it possible to make a new world in 1.7 and replace a portion of the world with what we've currently built in 1.6.2? Like, just transferring the chunks? Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Autumn1194 on August 30, 2013, 09:27:58 am 1.7 already?? Didn't they just barely do 1.6?
Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: Oomomo953 on August 30, 2013, 10:49:16 am oh god... I guess that meas I'll have to do the optifine thing again. :'(

Some of us have gone pretty far out already, so it'd take awhile to load the new chunks properly Title: Re: New Minecraft world: Rules and Stuff Post by: MG Maxdaddy on July 26, 2014, 08:33:52 pm soo... is the server gone now? Haven't been able to get on in a long time. |
