Title: So...who's buying BF4 for PS3?
Post by: jd111 on October 28, 2013, 08:34:53 am
I think I'm buying this at gamestop tonight, so I can get the double XP this weekend- I'll need it.

Who else is getting this for PS3?

I might skim craigslist and look for somebody who wants to sell it for cheap or trade it right away because there is always those people who are haters who list it like 3 hours after playing things but probably not gonna buy it for retail price anytime soon

I bought it for PS3 yesterday, but I'm picking it up tonight.  I didn't feel like going back up there at midnight, plus I have meetings today.

I picked it up today and have played for an hour or two.  I'm enjoying it. Still, I'm not really in the gaming mode as of late but I'm glad I got it. As for premium, I don't know if i'll do that or not, depends on how much I play.

Too broke and busy to be interested.  :'(

Title: Re: So...who's buying BF4 for PS3?

I figured why not. The last game I bought was BF3 so it was time for a new game. I will say this about it, I like the graphics much better than BF3, meaning, I can see more clearly. Controls are set up a little differently, but I'll deal with that. I played a little TDM and a little Domination.  I think I like Domination. And as most of you know that played with me in the past, my main objective is to enjoy myself and I had a pretty decent time playing it.

I still haven played it yet- been too damn busy with work. I'll play some tomorrow night, and this weekend (double XP).

I will say this about it, I like the graphics much better than BF3, meaning, I can see more clearly.

yeah they changed the graphics up a lot in the sense that they don't have this weird tint over everything. like grand bazaar looked blue and some of the aftermath maps looks orange. now things look a lot brighter and more vivid so it's a lot easier picking out soldiers out from the background. the maps themselves are a lot better thought out and much more balanced and open. no more fawking choke points like metro. oh and they're dynamic too. i'm so happy they brought back destructible environments and also these huge "levelution" events.

also, a lot of things like suppression and random bullet deviation have been reworked so gunplay is a lot better too. so there's that.

there is a narrow roadway from c that heads towards b and then hits a T section road and if you head right there is B, anyways between that b and c section its just insane and reminds me of the L in Monastery

Played last night. It's pretty fun. I like it better than B3, but it sometimes takes a lot to bring someone down in this game- or maybe it was the weapon I was using.

Anyway, I do like the graphics more, but it's going to take some time for me to get used to the new flight controls. I'll definately be on this weekend (double-xp).  O0

I'm enjoying it much more than BF3.  I like the weapon choices much better; meaning I like being able to have multiple choices in all classes. I stayed home with my daughter today who had the flu, so I played way too much.  I've only played domination but I like it overall. Glad I got the game.

man, i'm glad you guys are enjoying it a lot. in my case, i'm getting whipped good, boy. some of these guys have amazing aim and I can't keep up with them too well. keyboard movement is difficult but dammit, I'm going to get good. i'm good at this game and I know it.

Should have built your PC at least a month before BF4. That way you could have just downloaded free a FPS like Team Fortress 2 in order to get used to M/KB.

How much did your PC end up running you after everything was done?

Title: Re: So...who's buying BF4 for PS3?
Post by: Laughing Turd on November 02, 2013, 01:06:07 am
oh i had it a couple of weeks before bf4 actually. and yeah, i was playing other shooter games to get used to it. just, on multiplayer when you're against guys with a great shot, it's a lot harder. but i'm doing a lot better today. played a round with willmine and a couple of dudes from work. i was in the first 5 spots at the end.

i think willmine got pist because my friends and i are on mumble and my mumble push to talk button is left-alt button. that also happens to be the default bf4 push to talk button. so i'd be talking back to the guys and the people in game would hear too. well, anyway, he dropped out pretty close to the end and i'm thinking that's why.

oh and it's easily going to be north of 1,000 dollars for the pc. i still got a few things i want to buy. i'd like to get 8 more gigs of ram, an ssd and a proper monitor.

but you know what man, i think it was worth it for me. it's going to last me a lot longer than any console will and when it gets old, i'll just drop 200 dollars on a graphics card and i'm good as new. plus, the experience is so much better than it was on console. now, the next gen consoles might bring it all up to par, but i made my choice and i'm really happy with it.

hopefully the consoles do give you a similar experience.

I'll probably pick this up soon if the clarity of the gameplay is more on par with BC2 as opposed to BF3. It was difficult for me to pick out enemies on BF3 so I went back to BC2. The clarity of the game was so much better.

The convoluted method of configuring your loadouts on BF3 also frustrated me. I also don't remember being able to select the map I wanted to play in BF3.

I am intrigued by the PC platform. Maybe after the first of the year, I will be looking into building a proper gaming PC. No way I'd try that on my outdated PC. I do most of my work on the Mac platform anyways.

Whassup homies?  :P

Hey coolhand.  I played BC2 for about a week before BF4 came out and just had so much fun again. As for the new game, yes I like it much better, it's clearer and the maps are more enjoyable too, at least on domination. I haven't played any of the other maps.

As for picking you map, you can. Go to the server browser and set your filters (R3 button I think, it tells you somewhere on the screen how to set filters).  I think you'll enjoy BF4 much better than BF3.

Weapons were on of my issues in BF3 too. I like them much better here, plus you can unlock shotguns, carbines, and semi-auto rifles known as DMR's in this game to play with all kits. So basically, I can use the SKS or 870 and still be the ammo guy. Though I have found I have better, but not great control with the auto weapons.

man, they neeeeeed to fix the netcode and server stability. i keep getting killed behind walls and disconnecting randomly. other than that, i'm enjoying the game. getting a lot better now and can acquire targets a lot more easily. now i just need to work on my "tactics". need to get my score/min up and contribute more.

Title: Re: So...who's buying BF4 for PS3?

I'm having issues disconnecting fairly regularly. I'm not sure if that's my router or the game servers. Still, I'm liking this game a lot. I hated recon in B3, but I actually like it in this game.

Also, riding around in a attack gunboat, blasting the crap out of everything is pretty kickass.

Title: Re: So...who's buying BF4 for PS3?
Post by: Laughing Turd on November 04, 2013, 04:29:22 pm
yeah those gun boats take a good licking. you might even say they're a little op but if you get enough engies on anything, and there are a ton of engies, it'll go down real fast.

Title: Re: So...who's buying BF4 for PS3?
Post by: Crzy on November 11, 2013, 05:33:33 pm
Boats are pretty powerful when they have someone repairing. However, once you get your own boat and unlock TV Missiles, they go down insanely fast since you can fire both TV missiles pretty fast. One of my first 2 games had an attack boat and I used it. Went 24-0 or something because no one had anything unlocked for it lol.

How has the transition been going for the M/KB? :P

My only complaint with the game so far is the fact that Air vehicles don't get a warning half the time. They just randomly blow up or nosedive after being hit by a heatseeker or stinger. THEN once you've been hit, you get a lock-on warning. -.-

boat on boat violence is pretty intense, bro. i love doing a quick flank with the rhib boat on obliteration, picking the bomb carrier and hauling ass to the bomb site on paracel storm when the storm hits and the waves go 20 ft high. it's like one of those chase scenes in the movies where a dude jumps in his getaway car and **** hits the fan. it's funny because you spam "get in" on the commo rose and the blue hauling ass with the bomb knows exactly what's up as soon as he sees you. 7/10 times i fail because that attack boat is hard as hell to shake, but when it does, it feel epic as hell.

also i love trying to bait boats into the shallow waters between the little island and they get stuck on the beach. funny as hell.

bro, ea needs to get some better servers and dice just needs to fix the damn netcode. it's so annoying dying 10 ft behind a wall. even bf3 was better than this. i'm sure there is a warning buzzer going off but it's just out of sync between you and the guy shooting you down. i've been in a lot of firefights where i won't even get hitmarkers and i know i'm hitting dead on. after i'm done emptying my mag and frantically reload in fear, the dude randomly drops and i get a kill.

i think if they fix the netcode it'd be a much better game.

it's going alright, thanks for asking. the mouse is a non issue. it's super accurate and a lot faster than analog sticks. i really enjoy that and it's helping me shoot a lot of choppers down with a freehand rpg.

the keyboard on the other hand is progressing more slowly. don't get me wrong, it's adequate for movement and i like having a lot more options at my disposal in terms of keybindings and action buttons. the thing is, i still get stuck and fumble around a lot when action gets heavy and you need to dance your fingers around the keyboard. it doesn't feel natural to me, not nearly as much as using an analog stick.

Yeah I've had the no hitmarker glitch as well, but it didn't really phase me since I ADS all the time. I know when my bullets are hitting and missing. And seeing no killfeed bonus or hitmarkers coming up, felt like I was playing Hard core so I didn't mind lol. I haven't been dying behind walls and I think that's because I only play on West US servers. Learned from BF3 that anything other than West US has a chance of no sound glitch, freezing, dying stupidly, etc.

Maybe you could try turning down the Network Smoothing Factor to 0%? I changed that as soon as the game loaded and I haven't had any issues with graphics or netcode.

lol I think this is the area I'd have the most trouble with as well. Back when everyone was playing Combat Arms, it was always my trouble area...trying to run then prone/crouch behind cover felt weird.

Nope I'm still on PS3 until I can find a PS4. Hopefully that's on Friday but who knows, because I've never really bought a console on Launch day before. Usually wait until they iron out the bugs and drop the price lol.

Title: Re: So...who's buying BF4 for PS3?
Post by: Laughing Turd on November 13, 2013, 04:47:08 pm
I actually did turn the network smoothing factor all the way down. i do have to admit that it's running a lot more smoothly lately, but I still get a lot of the dying 5ft behind a wall thing. That's definitely on DICE/EA though.

Anyway, I might go look at some gaming keyboards and see if they offer anything that makes it easier to dance around. It honestly does get me killed quite a bit because i can't press the button i need fast enough.

Also, another thing I'm thinking is that I need a legit monitor. I'm using my hdtv as a substitute  and it looks great but I don't think it can display things as quickly as a monitor. I'll be looking straight ahead and die randomly only to discover that the dude jumped out and popped back in. Guess my tv isn't fast enough. Also, it's 42 inches and I'm sitting rather close so it's a bit of a chore tracking things from one side of the screen to the other.

Anyway, I think I'll get a ps4 when there a little bit more available too. There's too many games I need to get on it and the system itself looks like it's going to be really nice. I'll probably double dip with pc and ps4 bf4.

My disconnecting issues were being caused by a crappy Comcast router. I replaced it, and no more disconnecting.  :)

Now I need to work on my 30% quit rate caused by that damn router.  >:(

Okay, so after the patch this game is soooo much more enjoyable. I feel like I can see people at the same time they can see me so I don't need super human reaction time. Now the only thing I need to worry about is finding a Support player to drop some **** ammo. Jeez, people need to learn to play this game right.

Title: Re: So...who's buying BF4 for PS3?
Post by: Crzy on November 17, 2013, 11:22:00 pm
lol PS3 has the same issue with people not dropping ammo. Hell, people barely revive now when you compare it to all the medic whoring on BF3. Guess people are using solo gadgets like Airburst/M320 and Claymore/MedKits instead of Ammo boxes and Defibs.

In other news, every place around me has been sold out of PS4 and none of them know when the next shipment is arriving. :(

You know, that IS weird. I guess since it takes a second to charge up the defibs. Regardless, I still try charging them up to revive at a higher health.

Man, I haven't even tried to go look. I know I'm not going to find one. **** Willmine already has one and is double dipping on BF4, that mother****er.  Where have you gone to check?

Title: Re: So...who's buying BF4 for PS3?
Post by: Crzy on November 20, 2013, 01:07:38 pm
The revive timer being so damn short is also a bad thing. I know when I play Assault, I don't even bother trying to revive someone that's 10 feet away from me. By the time I run over there in 3 secs, the revive option will be gone. :/

I didn't go to any stores. I missed the Midnight launch and knew they would be sold out by the time I got up. So I called everywhere and everyone confirmed what I was thinking. Don't really care though since everyone is complaining about BF4 being unplayable for CQ and 64 player matches. So I'm not missing anything yet. :P

Title: Re: So...who's buying BF4 for PS3?
Post by: Laughing Turd on November 20, 2013, 05:03:11 pm
Actually, I think they extended it a little bit from the beta. I can see why people find it too short but  I find it workable and rather like it this way. The reviving in BF3 was way overpowered. This shorter window means that dying has a bigger penalty.

But like I said, I can see it going both ways.

Why is it unplayable for conquest and 64 players? The thing about rush on pc is that the ticket count is way too small. Rounds are over too quickly. On the other hand, it means that a stacked team has less of an advantage over a ****ty defending team. Been on too many already where we barely manage to hold the other team off thanks to a few talented players draining the few tickets the attackers have. The rest of the team are playing with their mouse taped to their dicks and their keyboards stuck up their asses.

Title: Re: So...who's buying BF4 for PS3?
Post by: Crzy on November 20, 2013, 11:41:02 pm
Yeah that is good that more people are dying. But it's rather annoying running 5-10 feet and right as you get there, the option to revive disappears lol.

PS4 GFaqs have all been crying about the game/console being broken for BF4. SP is corrupting their data and making them start all over. MP disconnects and doesn't let anyone play 64 player matches or CQ in general. So everyone has to play Dom for the most part.

I'll concede here.

Well duh. That's why I don't like it over there. Also, I hate everyone trying to "so epik tr0ll" everyone that isn't part of the cool crowd. All I see when someone asks something legitimate is "git gud skrubb" and **** like that. Oh and lets not forget the childish dick slapping arguments they have all the time.

I will say that some of the guys you run with are pretty cool guys though.

Quote

But I guess they do have a point here. I'd be pretty pissed off about it too. I kind of want to say that it'll be pretty bad on the consoles because they can't just patch things as fast as PC and then the old consoles' architecture isn't "PC-like" so they probably have a harder time locating the kinks on those systems.

That really does suck. But now you know you gotta get a PC and play on that instead. Buy a dualshock 4 if you want.  ^-^

So after a month of playing, did you finally make the full transition to M/KB? 64 players is pretty damn intense at times but the useless snipers really do stick out more. Much harder to win games when half your team wants to snipe and not capture flags.

Miss that about PS3 but overall it's still fun.

Title: Re: So...who's buying BF4 for PS3?
Post by: Kreater on January 07, 2014, 04:55:17 pm
Yeah, the "snipers" in this game are humping annoying as fudge.  They seriously remind me of gnats buzzing around your face.  All I ever hear is the "whisp" sound as bullets fly past my head, sometimes it's several!  I end up "sniping" them with my RPG just to give em a big **** YOU! :D

You look at their score in the menu and they're like 5-12 with a few hundred points while the leaders have 5,000 + and 30 + kills.

Yep. I got it down pretty well now, though I'd say I have to spend at least a year to really get it down to where it's second nature like with a controller. Mouse is just so **** good....I'm starting to get games with 20% accuracy and **** which is way better than the 11 or 12 percent I had with the sticks.

That being said, I don't play BF4 too much now. I don't know why. I'm playing several other games including Bad Company 2 again. That game is actually better than BF4 but I'm not going to open that can of worms.

And yes, **** snipers ruin it for everyone. well, okay, put it like this. There's a massive difference between console and pc sniping and yes it's all because of the mouse. You're probably a lot more likely to do well on PC and maybe, perhaps, contribute somewhat to the team. That being said, the degree to which you help the team, though bigger on pc, is still not significant in any way. So you're right, with 64 players you have more people wanting to be camping pen0rs while the rest of the team gets obliterated.

however, as with most things in battlefield, that slack can be picked up by a really, really good squad. that goes tenfold if they are a good air team. there are some crazy good people out there.
