1  General Discussion / Entertainment / Creativity / Arts / Re: My Video Game Projects topic on: April 20, 2014, 12:02:34 am
That sounds great. Really, feel free to talk about anything and everything about the project in this thread. I assure you, I'd love to hear anything you can think of to say about it.

It didn't occur to me before, but this actually reminds me of an old Genesis/Mega Drive game called Atomic Runner (though without the horizontal movement)

Also are you making this as an endless game where you're trying to survive as long as possible, or does it have levels and whatnot?
3  Gaming Boards / Video Game General Discussion / Thread for my game videos stuff on: April 19, 2014, 07:45:58 pm
Since I'm not sure anyone reads the youtube thread anymore, and since I'll be doing a lot of these, here's a thread for my Youtube stuff.

I mostly do skillbased stuff in various video games. Mostly 2d though there are some great 3d games I play as well (PSO2).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=813olf-gB94

My 1 life clear of Ghouls and Ghosts. This is the arcade version, which is harder than the home port, and also the Japanese version which is harder than the USA arcade version. The game is very random and requires a lot of fast reactions, since a lot of enemies spawn randomly and bosses often move based on rng.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYNaTHdjaXk

My clear of Cho Ren Sha 68k on hard mode. This is the first hard mode clear on Youtube, and the second best score on the Shmups Forum for hard mode. Hard mode is basically the same as normal, except enemies release heavily randomized lasers or spread shots when they die, which are very difficult to react to often times (I like fast reactions based on random stuff). The game appeals to me because it has the depth of a bullet hell shooter but the frantic movement of older large hitbox shooters. The game is freeware, I'd recommend downloading it because it's really fun (I put a link in the video description).

Also I like the dodging at 21:45

2 games I'm working on right now are an old beat em up called King Of Dragon's, which I'm attempting to clear on one credit, and a shmup called eXceed 2nd, for which I'm attempting to beat a high score on the hardest difficulty.

I'd like to upload some fighting game matches too, since I'm getting better at Skullgirls. However I'd like to purchase some different recording equipment first hand since mine does not work well with netplay based games.

What about game genre, as in what games the person plays most? Fps would be gun, sports would be sports related, driving something with cars. Just spitballing  Afro
Give me "Real Man Games for Real Men"

I will probably watch this after I finish the game lol and give thoughts on the review.
6  Gaming Boards / Video Game General Discussion / Re: Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn (I'm not kidding here) on: March 24, 2014, 06:22:04 pm
Yeah I heard about this and was familiar with the original game (a friend played it through to completion on stream). Pretty funny. Can't complain if this ends up being a good game though.
7  Gaming Boards / PC Gaming / Re: **** you pc master race on: March 24, 2014, 05:46:46 pm
I've been playing games on PC since roughly 2008.

It's definitely more convenient in a lot of ways to have all your games at the touch of a button, and there are many other advantages like price, moddability, etc. There also disadvantages like how some games might not run for you without technical support or how you might have to turn down graphics since stuff can't be tested across all pc's and thus you don't have the reliability of a standardized console.

I guess I lean most towards pc for the sheer convenience factor above all else, though in the end it's not a big deal. Ultimately I just like to have all the good games I can get that tickle my interest, and one way or another you really need to have every console and gameplay device if you don't want to miss anything.

I'm personally going to wait on PS4. I usually like to wait on new consoles until there's at least several games that I really want. For example I could have gotten a Wii U for Super Mario 3d World + Wonderful 101...but I figured I'd wait till Bayonetta 2 comes out as well.

I'm willing to admit that LoL and Dota are technically good games. I mean, they have teamwork and strategy and whatnot, so they're deep and competitive play can be exciting.

But they are still ****ing based on ****ing hitscan and point and click click click controls. It's so ****ing lazy how  90% of moba's fall back on this control and combat scheme just because the original Warcraft 3 mod did it, and it's not fun IMO.

If you're going to give me a real time game where I control one specific character, actually give me control of that character instead of pointing and clicking to slowly move a pawn around a board. And maybe make use of more motor skills than rudimentary aiming and timing. I'd rather just play a real rts like Starcraft, at least there the fact that I'm controlling a gigantic number of units at one time (each with their own abilities that require the same aiming and timing) has a much greater potential for strategy and skill, even without the massive amount of macro management and planning those games require.

tl:dr: **** moba's. Except the ones that have actual action game controls. Those can be good.

Of course, that's all just my opinion.

Only if you enjoy hitscan and point and click controls

AKA you enjoy not fun

There's quite a bit of teamwork in Metal Slug 3. Bosses in particular are harder in co op for several reasons and require a lot of coordination.

Pso2 might be a bit to anime and inconvenient for them, but it's great fun if you do.

Definitely give AirMech a try since that game needs more love. I love how both action game and rts fundamentals really transfer over and work well. I managed to beat some peeps just using Starcraft tactics even though I barely had any idea how to play lol.
