Gaming Boards / Call of Duty: Black Ops II / Why Black Ops 2 SHOULD Succeed

In contrast to Krysk_1's post. I am not posting this because I am a CoD fanboy, anyone who knows me knows that I am not a CoD fanboy at all. I do however think Black Ops 2 will be a great game and yes I do think it will actually be different from other CoD games and maybe even better than Halo 4 depending on how they work out some of their new ideas like random weapon spawn locations.
I'm just gonna bullet point this
1 - The game is being developed in cooperation with big call of duty players. Just the fact that vonderhaar and treyarch took the extra time to reach out and get the opinions of Pro call of duty players and big youtubers as well as having them test out the game shows that there is some motivation in the developing team. This is the first time Call of Duty has done this and I am hoping will show in the gameplay changes.
2 - Snaking is gone. If you know what it is you know why this is awesome. If you don't, snaking has been in CoD since CoD4. It is just an exploit in the game mechanics where when you go from prone to standing up very quickly while sprinting your persons animation goes all crazy and it makes it harder to hit you and gives you an advantage. Look up a video of it if you really want to see.
3 - Knifing is supposed to be fixed. The developing team said that knifing is now going to require more accuracy as well as not having any lunge anymore. Hopefully this reduces the amount of panic knifing as well as B.S. knives. They said the knife actually has to make contact with the other person on the screen for it to kill.
4 - Ranked playlist. They are using a "true-skill" ranking system in this new ranked playlist where you will be matched up against other players of your same skill level in order to play in a more competitive environment. They are using the same ranking system as SC2 and Halo 3 as well as other games. The way it works is basically that your first few games are placement games. Depending on how you perform in these games you will be given a rank and then placed in the according league. In order to then improve your rank you will need to obviously win games as well as have good stats ( based on lots of different stats, not just k/d ). The higher rank the person you beat is the more your rank will go up, when you lose games consistently though your rank will go down. Also this playlist will probably be similar to the competitive playlist from black ops in the sense that they will use the game modes and maps that MLG decides they will use for events.
5 - Score streaks. Instead of getting your bonuses based on kills it is based on your in-game score so playing objective will actually have purpose for some people who just wanted to kill****. Also no moab or nuke or bs like that so no more of that bull****. I don't know exactly how scorestreaks work but it sounds like a better idea.
6 - Point allocation system. I think most people know what this is. In your custom classes you now receive 10 points for each class to use however you want. You can have a secondary and lots of perks. A primary and 2 nades, stuff like that. You are no longer required to have 3 perks, 1 equipment, 1 primary etc. This explanation is kind of ****ty, you can find better ones all over the place.
7 - Spectator mode. They are introducing an advanced spectator mode to the game, it has 4 different viewing types that you can switch through when you watch your friends or if you watch competitive gaming. They have the regular screen where you follow one player with their name and the current score on it, they have a map layout with the locations of all the players and where they are going, they have a half and half where one half shows a player and the other half shows a list of players and who is alive and dead and then I think there is more one viewing screen you can cycle through.
8 - Zombie Updates. Mex reminded me, they are taking Zombies to a whole new level. They are adding in team zombies where it is a regular game of team deathmatch or w/e game mode with neutral zombies killing everyone and other team zombie modes. I don't know the details but I recall hearing about it and it sounds like a great addition to the ever loved Zombies.
These are the things that I think will actually have an impact on the game and make it different from past CoD's. I'm interested to hear what everyone thinks so please leave feedback. I may have left out a few things, if I realize that I did I will just add them in.

Submachine Gun - MP7 w/focus and extended mags
Assault Rifle - ACR w/focus and red dot
Sniper - MSR
Shotgun - I think I have used shotguns three times ever in this game
LMG - same as shotguns
Perks - sleight of hand, quickdraw and dead silence. I hate getting sound whored. I run specialist cause I feel bad getting kills from a helicopter or something, they make me mad.
Maps - Arkaden and Lockdown only. I hate all the others.

Gaming Boards / Microsoft Xbox Brand Board / Re: Hard Drive Transfer

I am pretty sure that it does work between old and new hard drives BUT what I would recommend is using the old harddrive in the new xbox so that you don't have to buy the stupid overpriced transfer cable. My old xbox ( bought it on release ) got red rings for the 2nd time in December so I bought a new 4GB slim. I didn't realize at the time that the 4GB isn't considered a hard drive so some features are unusable such as downloading from xbox marketplace and rendering clips in Black Ops but it does have a slot to put in a hard drive. I asked around if anyone knew if I could somehow use my old hard drive in the new xbox cause if I just tried putting it into the hard drive slot it wasn't fitting due to the outer casing of it. What you can do and what I did is break the casing off of the hard drive, it is literally there for no reason besides to make it look more uniform instead of just metal. Once you break it off you can put it into the xbox 4GB slim. Hope it works out! If you can't figure out how to do it look it up on youtube, im sure you can find videos on it or even ask your friends if they know how. I got lucky cause one of my friends did it for me.

No you won't have to start over, the Wii-U has magical bluetooth save file transfer capabilities. But really that is a good point and will suck. I wish that some company will step up to the plate in an attempt to make a new competitive shooting game for the Wii-U. I probably will not buy it regardless what games it has but it would be nice to see nintendo get some fps lovin.

It always amazes me when I look back at how much a videogame, especially one like MoHH2 could really bring so many people so close together as well as how many great memories i'm sure everyone here has on it. I play the campaign of this game sometimes just to play the game, I miss it a lot.

General Discussion / Entertainment / The All-Seeing Eye / Re: Let's Talk... Religion
|

I don't really wanna post all of my thoughts on religion on this thread because i just dont want to take the time to do that and then explain. My BIGGEST problem with the major religions of christianity/islam/judaism is that in the texts of all 3 religions it is stated that if one does not believe in the god of that religion and worship him/her/it w/e you want to refer to "god" as, that person goes to hell or some sort of place which is basically like hell. Someone could be a great person their entire life, be the most kind, generous, honest and charitable person and still be viewed as hellbound through the eyes of religion. A jew for example could be a wonderful devoted person but in the eyes of a christian would go to hell for not accepting jesus christ in his heart while if that same man was a christian he would go to heaven. Religion for most people is based off of where they are born and their upbringing, not a choice. If a child is born into a very islamic family in the middle east, chances are he will live his whole life as a very islamic person. I do understand that many people convert and things like that, I am just saying that that is another problem i have with religion. I have read a lot about different religions including multiple texts from the bible ( not just looking for quotes that make christianity look bad but actually reading the books and looking at things in context ), the entire Quran in an english translation, am working through the Tanach, and have read much about buddhism and its teachings and imo buddhists are the MOST righteous people in what they do and how they live.

It will definitely be interesting to try and see Bethesda make an MMORPG off of Elder Scrolls gameplay. The last MMORPG with a hack'n'slash combat system that was even looked at was Age of Conan which didn't turn out to be a very good game at all. With that said I have faith in them that they will be able to make an MMORPG tailored to the combat system that they employ in their games as opposed to other companies who try to just replace the regular autoattacking combat system with hack'n'slash and assume that it will work with the game.

Gaming Boards / Nintendo Board / Xenoblade Chronicles - *Full Game Review*
|
on: April 10, 2012, 08:53:50 pm
|
|
Hey guys! So I saw the thread about Xenoblade Chronicles and that a lot of you guys wanted a short review of the game so seeing as I have had this game for about a little more than a year I thought i might as well do a full game review for anyone who is deciding whether or not to buy this game.
Here are the topics I will discuss in this review ( in order ) : Storyline Gameplay Environment/World Graphics Side-Quests/Replayability Character Customization Sounds/Music Dialogue/Voice Overs
Storyline
The story behind Xenoblade Chronicles although not necessarily the freshest idea has many unique twists and turns that keep it interesting, and that paired along with the vast beautiful world and amazing battle system I can assure you if you enjoy playing RPG's this is a game you will definitely want to buy. The game starts off explaining how the in-game world came to be, taking some ideas from Japanese Shinto mythology it takes you through a quick summary of the battle between two giant titans, the Bionus and Mechonus, who after ages of fighting became interlocked by their swords into just corpses. Their giant bodies are the world that you and everyone else in the game has learned to call home. Yes there is one boy who is the worlds only hope, yes there is an all-powerful weapon that only he can wield and must be used to save the world, and yes there is an enemy race that you must defeat but aside from this many parts of the story are unique. The game centers around the age-old conflict between the Humans and Mechons, a machine-like drone race that are just evil, just evil to the core and want to destroy all humans. A few decades before the game actually takes place the Humans along with a man, Dunban, who could wield the magical all powerful weapon which you will come to know as the Monado forced the Mechon to retreat and now they have for some reason returned. Unfortunately that man is injured now and the main character, Shulk, finds out that for some reason he is able to wield the Monado, binding him to the duty of defeating the Mechon once again. You travel the expansive world with your best friend Reyn and the love interest of the game Fiora meeting new people along the way but I don't want to give away too much.
Gameplay
For those who have played WoW, GW, or mostly any other MMORPG it does play very much like an MMORPG. Like most RPG's it uses a town system, each of which is seperated by some terrain and monsters, one great feature of this is the use of fast travel. Certain parts of the world like towns and specific parts in the town are added to your map once you have discovered it, you can then go into the world map and basically teleport there which saves the long runtimes although I often times find myself just running anyways due to the incredible landscapes of this game ( crazy right? ). While running around you often times find small little glowing items which you simply run over to pick up. With these items you can sell them for a buncha money or you can use certain ones to create rune-type things which I will mention more in Customization. The battle system I think is one of the best features of this game, it employs the use of autoattacking fights, meaning that you have full control of your player when you are in combat, movement, jumping, what spells you wanna cast and when which is only limited by the cooldown of the spells all while your character is constantly using a basic autoattack. Spells in this game are ONLY limited by cooldowns, meaning unlike other RPG's instead of having a limited source of mana or energy to cast spells you only have to wait for the cooldown. Other cool features of the battle system include the fact that it does not go into a different scene when you fight but instead you fight in the same world that you run around in. Something I think they did really well was not having forced battles all over the place besides the main story ones but instead there are monsters scattered all over and you can choose whether or not to aggro. Some monsters gain aggro more easily while others kinda just sit around minding their own business. A lot of strategy was added into the battle system of this game, the main character Shulk can switch between two weapon modes as he has the all powerful Monado. When fighting regular monsters you can usually just keep it in the regular sword-like mode but when fighting mechon you have to switch it to some crazyass mode which is the only way to really do significant damage to them. Along with that certain moves will cause different ailments to the enemy which can then be proceeded by an intelligent attack to do more damage. For example one of Shulks moves has a chance of knocking over the enemy, while knocked over your teammate Reyn can use a skill that has a chance of stunning, a greater chance if they are knocked down. Stuff like that that just adds a different dimension to the power. Finally, in longer battles you can use Chain Attacks which is a chain of a few attacks from each member of your team which you choose. They are extremely helpful against bosses, for example you could attack the boss with reyn and shulk and then with fiora heal the team so you don't die. Obviously more complex chain attacks become more prevalent as you go through the game. One thing I really enjoyed about this game is that scattered throughout the world are rare elite bosses, some only come out at certain times, some randomely, some are always there. They go around with a bunch of their thugs and they do put up a good fight and usually have nice drops. It's fun to sometimes just go off and try and find some to kill. Come to think of it probably 3/4 of the time I spent on this game was just exploring the world, there are so many awesome environments and landscapes you won't even remember you are on wii.
*Sorry, this is taking longer than i thought but I'm sure some of you are pretty eager to buy this game so I will just keep updating it.*

Hey sorry, I only come back here every so often, I keep telling myself that I will remind myself to come here but I keep forgetting. I'll try to keep that promise this time. Anyways, I remember when I first saw this game I fell in love which is why I got homebrew on my wii so that I could play this. I got it about a year ago, I'll post a full review tomorrow because I don't really have time tomorrow so keep an eye out for that!

So, I came by here again after a while and was just looking through all the posts and whatnot. I started thinking, where is everyone now, like a lot of you are still posting here but i mean, what is everyone doing these days, and on top of that, what are you guys gaming on now. I know that my gaming preferences havent changed, i still do wii+xbox but im sure many of yours have so just post here what you play, maybe we can hook up on xbox or wii sometime.
Second, are any of you guys thinking about buying the new Wii? Considering it is a nintendo system i am assuming it will be another outcast console in a way, ya know not really made for competitive gaming but more for fun. I came to thinking that maybe when it first comes out with Ghost Recon that maybe another great community will be made for a nintendo console again of a lot of close people or something. Idk thats just a fantasy lol. So ya just post what you guys think about it.

Obviously this is very late, but for anybody who does have this problem in the future i would suggest getting homebrew on your wii, this way you can put games on a usb, i find that is much more advantageous
